Background: Maternal mortality was insufficiently reduced in Cameroon in 2015 despite the adoption of Millennium development goals. To tackle the situation and meet the sustainable Millennium goals target of 140/100,000 live births by 2030, the Government adopted the strategies of building reference hospitals where high quality obstetric care, timely and optimal management of obstetric emergencies will be offered. The objective of this study was to describe the patterns of obstetric emergencies in Douala Gynaeco-obstetric and Paediatric Hospital, evaluate the outcomes of their management and the contribution to maternal mortality. Patients and Methods: 418 patients with obstetric emergencies were included in a two-phase cross-sectional study. Data were retrieved from patients’ case notes during the retrospective phase and a questionnaire filled for each case received during the prospective phase. Introduction: The first case of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in Cameroon was confirmed on March 6, 2020. Though widely considered that pregnant women are more susceptible to respiratory tract infections, the available body of literature on the effect of COVID-19 on pregnancy outcomes is shy from being conclusive. In Cameroon, the Douala Gyneco-Obstetric and Pediatric Hospital (DGOPH) was one of the main frontline tertiary health facilities for the management of severe forms of the disease. After four months of managing COVID-19 cases in the general population and especially in pregnant women at the DGOPH, we decided to take a stop, analyze our findings from the patients managed in order to drive future policies and clinical practices via informed decisions. Overall objective: To describe and understand the clinical burden of patients managed for COVID-19 in pregnancy or post-partum at the DGOPH. Methodology: Cross-sectional and descriptive study covering four months—March 24th to July 24th 2020 at DGOPH. Decades of research asserted that the oligodendroglial lineage comprises two cell types:oligodendrocyte precursor cells and ***,recent studies employing single-cell RNA sequencing techniques have uncovered novel cell states,prompting a revision of the existing *** forward,the oligodendroglial lineage should be delineated into five distinct cell states:oligodendrocyte precursor cells,committed oligodendrocyte precursor cells,newly formed oligodendrocytes,myelin-forming oligodendrocytes,and mature *** new classification system enables a deeper understanding of the oligodendroglia in both physiological and pathological *** this uniform terminology will facilitate comparison and integration of data across ***,including the consolidation of findings from various demyelinating models,is essential to better understand the pathogenesis of demyelinating ***,comparing injury models across species with varying regenerative capacities can provide insights that may lead to new therapeutic strategies to overcome remyelination ***,by standardizing terminology and synthesizing data from diverse studies across different animal models,we can enhance our understanding of myelin pathology in central nervous system disorders such as multiple sclerosis,Alzheimer's disease,and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis,all of which involve oligodendroglial and myelin dysfunction.

A MEASURE OF SUPPLY CHAIN COMPLEXITY INCORPORATING VIRTUAL ARCS

Increased globalization, as well as the ability to have virtual supply chain partners, has had numerous effects on supply chains. While some of these effects are positive, making more resilient supply chains, there are also the negative effects of scale ~nd complexity, making these supply chains more challenging than ever to manage. Having a means to measure the complexity is crucial for today＇s managers to make more informed decisions. This measure must not only account for the number of arcs, but the amount of information and material carried on it, as well as incorporate the benefit that virtual arcs add to the network by increasing efficiency and reducing information, product and financial transfer costs and time. This research utilizes newer models in network clustering and complexity theory to make them applicable to supply chains and creates a new, practical approach to measuring supply chain complexity which can be easily implemented by practitioners.

Covid-19 in Pregnancy: Cases of Women Managed in the City of Douala-Cameroon

Introduction: The SARS-COV-2 virus has been responsible for a health crisis in pregnancy, causing severe acute respiratory distress syndrome. Materno-foetal complications can be observed. Taking into account the materno-foetal risks associated with COVID-19 infection in pregnant women and the low sample size of the first publication in Cameroon, we considered it necessary to conduct an in-depth study on the maternal and foetal prognosis of this condition in pregnant women in three hospitals in Douala. Materials and Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional survey with retrospective data collection in the three state tertiary and reference hospitals in Douala (DGOPH, DGH and DLH) from November 1, 2021 to April 30 2022 after obtaining ethical and administrative clearances. All records of COVID-19 pregnant women confirmed by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT PCR) or COVID-19 rapid diagnostic test (COVID RDT) were included. The survey form contained socio-demographic data, clinical and para-clinical characteristics, management and materno-foetal outcome. SPSS.26 and Microsoft Excel 2016 software were used to analyze the data, and a logistic regression model was used to look for associations between the variables. Results: We found in total 96 files that met our inclusion criteria. The most represented sector of activity was the unemployed (44.46%). Patients with a secondary level of education constituted the majority with 47% (45). The main comorbidity found was diabetes (27.2%). The most frequent symptom was fever, found in 87 patients (90.1%). In our series, a chest CT scan was performed in 50 patients. Caesarean section was the most common mode of delivery (58.3%). We recorded 15.6% of maternal deaths, mainly in patients admitted to intensive care. Factors associated with maternal death were: Maternal diabetes, high LDH and D-dimer levels, and 75% lung involvement on chest CT scan. Oxygen saturation > 94% on admission was a protective factor. Coagulation enhanced electrokinetic settling of mature fine oil sands tailings

The mature fine oil sand tailings(MFT) remain as slurry in the tailings pond for long time. The dewatering and consolidation of MFT for sustainable management is an important task for the mining industry. The objective of this study is to accelerate electrokinetic settling of MFT solids in suspensions in presence of optimal coagulant. In the first phase, optimal coagulant and coagulant dosage for settling of suspension are identified, i.e., ferric chloride at 350 mg/L. It is found that the chemical treatment is not much effective; the final solid content of the sediment is only 6.48% from an initial of 5%. In the second phase,combined coagulation and electrokinetic treatment is carried out to enhance the settling effect. The direct electric current is applied in continuous and intermittent modes on MFT suspensions placed in electrokinetic cell. The results show the final solid content reaches 23.74% under the combined application of350 mg/L ferric chloride and 218.75 V/m applied voltage gradient in the continuous mode. The intermittent current mode with 40% save in power consumption produces a settled sediment having 20.84% final solid content.

Fetal growth restriction(FGR)describes a fetus that has not grown to its expected biological potential in *** can result from maternal,fetal,or placental complications,though it is commonly caused by placental *** prolonged hypoxic environment the FGR fetus is exposed to has detrimental effects on the newborn,which extends to adverse long-term neurological outcomes in a significant proportion of FGR infants(Malhotra et al.,2019).Unfortunately,there are currently no therapies to reduce the adverse neurological outcomes in *** injury is evident in the FGR brain,and therefore understanding which neurons are lost and how they are lost will aid in the selection of treatment options for FGR.

Promoting Older Adults' Engagement in Disaster Recovery Through Supportive Relationships, Partnerships, and Collaboration: Perspectives of Social Work Practitioners and Human Service Professionals

Shifting demographics—that is, the growing number of older adults in Canada and internationally—and intersecting climatic risks create a complex landscape of aging in place in disaster contexts. Some older adults are vulnerable due to their underlying health conditions and limited physical mobility. Yet they also exhibit resilience in a distinct manner, owing to their wealth of knowledge, wisdom, and ability to navigate adversities. This article elucidates potential avenues for promoting the involvement of older adults in disaster recovery efforts. Our intention is to recognize and foster older adult resilience and mitigate vulnerability by drawing upon insights from the study titled “In the Aftermath of the 2016 Alberta Wildfires: The Role of Social Work Practitioners and Human Service Professionals in Long-Term Disaster Recovery.” Employing a qualitative research approach, that study recruited 51 participants for semistructured interviews and focus groups. A thematic analysis of the collected data unveiled the pivotal roles played by social workers and human service practitioners in facilitating recovery from the 2016 wildfires in the research. Notably, three overarching themes emerged concerning the promotion of older adults' involvement in disaster recovery: fostering supportive relationships, building partnerships and enhancing collaboration, and addressing ongoing challenges. These findings offer valuable insights into how social work practitioners and human service professionals can effectively facilitate the engagement of older adults in disaster recovery initiatives. This article emphasizes the significance of actively promoting the participation of older adults in disaster mitigation efforts, thereby fostering greater resilience within communities.
