The spatiotemporal variability of the greenhouse gas methane （CH4） in the atmosphere over the Amazon is studied using data from the space-borne measurements of the Atmospheric Infrared Sounder on board NASA＇s AQUA satellite for the period 2003-12. The results show a pronounced variability of this gas over the Amazon Basin lowlands region, where wetland areas occur. CH4 has a well-defined seasonal behavior, with a progressive increase of its concentration during the dry season, followed by a decrease during the wet season. Concerning this variability, the present study indicates the important role of ENSO in modulating the variability of CH4 emissions over the northern Amazon, where this association seems to be mostly linked to changes in flooded areas in response to ENSO-related precipitation changes. In this region, a CH4 decrease （increase） is due to the E1 Nifio-related （La Nifia-related） dryness （wetness）. On the other hand, an increase （decrease） in the biomass burning over the southeastern Amazon during very dry （wet） years explains the increase （decrease） in CH4 emissions in this region. The present analysis identifies the two main areas of the Amazon, its northern and southeastern sectors, with remarkable interannual variations of CH4. This result might be useful for future monitoring of the variations in the concentration of CH4, the second-most important greenhouse gas, in this area.

A new process to produce magnetite partially coated with strawberry-like gold nanoparticles in aqueous media is reported. The fast response to magnetic fields and optical properties of gold nanoparticle-based colloidal systems are the two main advantages of this new Fe@Au nanomaterial. These advantages allow for the use of this new colloidal nanomaterial for various purposes in proteomics and biomedicine, as proteins can bind to the surface, and the surface can also be funcfionalized. As proof-of-concept, the new Fe@Au nanoparticles have been assessed in biomarker discovery as a tool for pre-concentration and separation of proteins from complex proteomes. To this end, sera from healthy people were compared with sera from patients diagnosed with multiple myeloma. The application of this new Fe@Au nanomaterial combined with mass spectrometry has allowed for the identification of 53 proteins, and it has also shown that the heat shock protein HSP75 and the plasma protease C1 inhibitor are potential biomarkers for diagnostics and control of multilvle mveloma vro^ression.

In spite of advances in surgical care and rehabilitation, the consequences of spinal cord injury （SCI） are still challenging. Several experimental therapeutic strategies have been studied in the SCI field, and recent advances have led to the development of therapies that may act on the inhibitory microenvironment. Assorted lineages of stem cells are considered a good treatment for SCI. This study investigated the effect of systemic transplantation of mesenchymal stem cells （MSCs） in a compressive SCI model. Here we present results of the intraperitoneal route, which has not been used previously for MSC administration after compressive SCI. We used adult female C57BL/6 mice that underwent laminectomy at the T9 level, followed by spinal cord compression for 1 minute with a 30-g vascular clip. The animals were divided into five groups： sham （anesthesia and laminectomy but without compression injury induction）, MSC i.p. （intraperitoneal injection of 8×10^5 MSCs in 500 μL of DMEM at 7 days after SCI）, MSC i.v. （intravenous injection of 8 × 10^5 MSCs in 500μL of DMEM at 7 days after SCI）, DMEM i.p. （intraperitoneal injection of 500μL of DMEM at 7 days after SCI）, DMEM i.v. （intravenous injection of 500 μL of DMEM at 7 days after SCI）. The effects of MSCs transplantation in white matter sparing were analyzed by luxol fast blue staining. The number of preserved fibers was counted in semithin sections stained with toluidine blue and the presence of trophic factors was analyzed by immunohistochemistry. In addition, we analyzed the locomotor performance with Basso Mouse Scale and Global Mobility Test. Our results showed white matter preservation and a larger number of preserved fibers in the MSC groups than in the DMEM groups. Furthermore, the MSC groups had higher levels of trophic factors （brain-derived neurotrophic factor, nerve growth factor, neurotrophin-3 and neurotrophin-4） in the spinal cord and improved locomotor performance. We present the first evidence of Archean oceanic crust submitted to Proterozoic high-pressure(HP)metamorphism in the South American ***-Nd and Lu-Hf isotopic data combined with U-Pb geochronological data from the Campo Grande area,Rio Grande do Norte domain,in the Northern Borborema Province,reflect a complex Archean(2.9 Ga and 2.6 Ga)and Paleoproterozoic(2.0 Ga)evolution,culminating in the Neoproterozoic Brasiliano/Pan-African orogeny(ca.600 Ma).The preserved mafic rocks contain massive poikiloblastic garnet and granoblastic amphibole with variable proportions of plagioclase+diopside in symplectitic texture,typical of high-pressure *** clinopyroxene-garnet amphibolites and the more common garnet amphibolites from the Campo Grande area are exposed as rare lenses within an Archean migmatite *** amphibolite lenses represent 2.65 Ga juvenile tholeiitic magmatism derived from depleted mantle sources(positive values of+3.81 to+30.66)later enriched by mantle metasomatism(negative εNd(t)values of-7.97).Chondrite and Primitive Mantle-normalized REE of analyzed samples and discriminant diagrams define two different oceanic affinities,with E-MORB and OIB *** Eu anomalies(Eu/Eu*=0.75-0.95)indicate depletion of plagioclase in the *** zircon cores of 3.0-2.9 Ga in analyzed samples indicate that the Neoarchean tholeiitic magmatism was emplaced into 2923±14 Ma old Mesoarchean crust(εNd(t)--2.58 and Nd TDM=3.2 Ga)of the Rio Grande do Norte *** age of retro-eclogite facies metamorphism is not yet completely *** suggest that two high-grade metamorphic events are recognized in the mafic rocks:the first at 2.0 Ga,recorded in some samples,and the second,at ca.600 Ma,stronger and more pervasive and recorded in several of the mafic rock *** Neoproterozoic zircon grains are found in symplectite texture as inclusions in the garnet grains and represent the age of HP conditions in the *** zircon grains show a

In tropical montane forests,compositional and structural changes are commonly driven by broad-scale altitudinal ***,given the lack of knowledge on small-scale vegetation changes and temporal dynamics,we address the effects of small-scale variations in soil and altitude on tree community structure,temporal dynamics and phylogenetic diversity in a semi-deciduous tropical forest of the Atlantic Forest Domain,southeastern *** 2010 and 2015 we sampled thirty plots of 400 m^(2),set up along an altitudinal gradient between 1000 and 1500 m a.s.I..In each plot,we collected soil samples for chemical and textural *** fitted linear models to test the effects of altitude and soil on community dynamics and phylogenetic *** and soil explained the spatial variation in number of individuals and phylogenetic diversity *** lower to higher altitudes,we found decreasing fertility,increasing tree density and decreasing phylogenetic *** significantly influenced the increases in total biomass(from 240.9 to 255.4 t ha^(-1))and individual biomass(from 0.15 to 0.17 t)recorded in the *** while community temporal dynamics had rates of 1.96%for mortality,1.02%for recruitment,1.61%for biomass loss and 2.81%for biomass gain,none of them were explained by altitude or *** species substitution averaged0.1 in the ***,these results suggest that the small-scale variations in altitude and soil likely determine the conditions and resources that drive community assembly and structure,which are expressed by spatial variations along the altitudinal *** the same time,temporal patterns were not influenced by altitude-related environmental variation,resulting in a similar dynamic behaviour across the gradient,suggesting that broad-scale factors may play a more important role than local ones.

The interaction between an electron with a three-dimensional domain wall was investigated using the Born’s expansion of the S scattering matrix. We obtain an influence of the scattering of the electron with the ferromagnetic domain wall in the spin wave function of the electron with the aim to generate the knowledge about the state of the electron spin after the scattering. It relates to the recent problem of generation of the spin polarized electric current. We also obtain the contribution of the electron-wall domain interaction on the electric conductivity , through the wall domain, where we have obtained a peak of resonance in the conductivity for one value of .

Previous research has explored the potential to integrate lidar and optical data in aboveground biomass(AGB)estimation,but how different data sources,vegetation types,and modeling algorithms influence AGB estimation is poorly *** research conducts a comparative analysis of different data sources and modeling approaches in improving AGB ***-based spectral responses and textures,lidar-derived metrics,and their combination were used to develop AGB estimation *** results indicated that(1)overall,RapidEye data are not suitable for AGB estimation,but when AGB falls within 50–150 Mg/ha,support vector regression based on stratification of vegetation types provided good AGB estimation;(2)Lidar data provided stable and better estimations than RapidEye data;and stratification of vegetation types cannot improve estimation;(3)The combination of lidar and RapidEye data cannot provide better performance than lidar data alone;(4)AGB ranges affect the selection of the best AGB models,and a combination of different estimation results from the best model for each AGB range can improve AGB estimation;(5)This research implies that an optimal procedure for AGB estimation for a specific study exists,depending on the careful selection of data sources,modeling algorithms,forest types,and AGB ranges.

The application of High‐Temperature Superconductor(HTS)coils made of coated conductors has been investigated for many years.A possible configuration for such coils is the jointless loop,also known as the ring *** double crossed loop coil(DCLC)has been successfully applied in superconducting magnetic bearings(SMBs).The design of SMBs with DCLCs requires flexible modelling to allow all parts of the device to be *** work proposes the T‐A formulation with a thin‐film approximation for modelling SMB with DCLCs in the finite element analysis framework.A 2D representation of the system is coupled with an external electric circuit to model the continuity of the lines that represent the parts of each jointless *** couple the T‐A formulation and the circuit,an average of the total electric field,with both resistive and inductive components,is applied to the *** total current computed by the circuit is applied to the T‐A *** proposed methodology was validated by comparison with levitation force experimental *** types of tests were simulated:five levitation force tests and three guidance force *** is shown that there is a limit to the behaviour of the levitation force related to the high‐loss *** this limit,the stack of DCLCs behaves as an equivalent *** this limit,a high‐loss state appears as a linear growth of the levitation *** is also shown that this high‐loss state in vertical displacement influences the lateral force.

Kraft lignin was liquefied using polyethylene glycol#400(PEG)and glycerol(G)in a weight ratio of 80/20(w/w)and sulphuric acid(SA)as catalyst under atmospheric pressure at 160º*** three independent variables:reaction time(60,80 and 100 min),percentage of lignin(15,20 and 25%,w/w),and catalyst concentration(0,3 and 6%,w/w),were varied resulting in 27 experimental *** effect of these reaction conditions on the properties of the polyols was *** statistical analysis showed that only“the percentage of lignin”did not influence the properties of the liquefied products,however,reaction time and catalyst load were important *** resulting liquefied products were characterized by FTIR analysis.
