Background:Ruminants rely upon a complex community of microbes in their rumen to convert host-indigestible feed into ***,little is known about the association between the rumen microbiota and feed efficiency traits in Nellore(Bos indicus)cattle,a breed of major economic importance to the global beef ***,we compare the composition of the bacterial,archaeal and fungal communities in the rumen of Nellore steers with high and low feed efficiency(FE)phenotypes,as measured by residual feed intake(RFI).Results:The Firmicutes to Bacteroidetes ratio was significantly higher(Pdemonstrate that differences in the ruminal microbiota of high and low FE Nellore steers comprise specific taxa from the bacterial,archaeal and fungal *** OTUs belonging to the genus Piromyces were identified in animals showing high feed efficiency,whereas among archaea,Methanobrevibacter was associated with steers classified as *** identification of specific RFI-associated microorganisms in Nellore steers could guide further studies targeting the isolation and functional characterization

A method for microbial decontamination of Acanthamoeba cultures using the peritoneal cavity of mice

Objective: To evaluate whether the inoculation of contaminated cultures in the peritoneal cavity of mice could implement decontamination of Acanthamoeba ***: Suspensions of Acanthamoeba, Acanthamoeba polyphaga ATCC 30461, or Acanthamoeba spp. isolated from soil(Un B13 strain) were inoculated in the peritoneal cavity of Swiss mice(n = 24). After 1, 6, 12, or 24 h of exposure the peritoneal cavity was washed and assessed for the presence of bacteria, fungi, and ***: After 1 h of intraperitoneal inoculation at least 97% of the bacteria and 96% of the fungi(P demonstrated that this technique has great potential for decontamination of Acanthamoeba cultures in a short period of time.

We recognize the chemical composition of the acetonic extract of Rhizophora mangle barks(AERM)using mass spectrometry analysis[liquid chromatography(LC)–ESI–IT-MS/MS and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time of flight-MS(MALDI-TOF)].Analgesic activity was evaluated by formalin and tail-flick experimental ***-inflammatory activity was performed by paw edema test induced by carrageenan and 48/80 *** first series of experiments involved[LC]–FIA–IT-MS/MS with 11 separated catechins derivatives until degree of polymerization 3(DP3).The spectra obtained by MALDI-TOF analysis of the AERM presented two homologous series:one based on polymers of m/z 288 Da increments(up to DP12)and another series based on polymers of m/z[288?162]Da increments(up to DP11).In addition to these series of flavan-3-ol,each DP had a subset of masses with a variation of-16 Da(homologous series of afzelechins-m/z 873–3465 Da)and +16 Da(homologous series of gallocatechins-m/z 905–3497 Da).A similar pattern with homologous series of gallocatechins and afzelechins could also be observed for a fifth and a sixth monohexoside series:glucogallocatechins(m/z 779–3371)and glucoafzelechins(m/z 747–3339).The intraperitoneal administration of different doses of AERM(50,150 and 300 lg mL^(-1))have a morphine-like effect and intense anti-inflammatory activity.

Hair Growth Promoting Effect of Trichoxidil<up>TM</up>: A New Natural Compound for Hair Loss

Background: Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is a most common condition of hair loss. Thus, the present study aimed to investigate the effect of TrichoxidilTM, a phytocomplex obtained from a blend of essential oils, in the treatment of hair loss caused by AGA. Methods: The CCD1072Sk cells were cultured for the 24-hour cell viability assessment and cytotoxicity of TrichoxidilTM. The expression of mRNA levels from KGF, IGF-1, and VEGF in fibroblasts was evaluated by RT-qPCR. Thirty-three volunteers, diagnosed with AGA, men and women, aged between 25 and 50 years, were divided into Control group, without treatment (n = 5);TrichosolTM vehicle group, without active (n = 5);Hydroalcoholic vehicle group, without active (n = 4);TrichosolTM vehicle group, with 2.5% minoxidil (n = 5);Hydroalcoholic vehicle group, with 2.5% minoxidil (n = 5);TrichosolTM group with 2.5% TrichoxidilTM (n = 5) and Hydroalcoholic vehicle group with 2.5% TrichoxidilTM (n = 4) to dermoscopic and histologic. Results: Fibroblasts exhibited higher proliferation when treated with higher concentrations of TrichoxidilTM. TrichoxidilTM significantly increased the expression of KGF, IGF-1, and VEGF mRNA in fibroblasts cells. Analysis of the capillary density showed that TrichoxidilTM associated with TrichosolTM vehicle, was the most effective association. In addition, it was observed an increased more effectively the percentage of anagen phase and reduction of the telogen when compared to other formulations. Conclusion: TrichoxidilTM promoted proliferative effects and positively modulated the expression of growth factors IGF-1, VEGF, and KGF, being a promising candidate for the treatment of hair loss caused by AGA.

Genetic and Phenotypic Parameters in the Selection of Upland Rice Genotypes

To assist in upland rice breeding programs, estimated genetic and phenotypic parameters are extremely important in the selection of superior lines. Thus, the objective of this study was estimate the genetic and phenotypic parameters of upland rice lines of the breeding program of UFLA in partnership with Embrapa Arroz e Feijao and Epamig. The experiment was installed in an experimental area of the department of Agriculture at UFLA. It was evaluated 36 upland rice lines of the preliminary trial of the 2014/15 season, in randomized blocks, with three replications and plots consisted of five rows and each row has four meters. For this, it was evaluated the characters: plant height (cm), yield (kg·ha-1), 100-grain weight, days until flowering, percentage of filled grains and rice blast severity. The variance analysis and genetic parameters were estimated using the software SAS. To evaluate the experimental precision was estimated the accuracy, which varied between 63% and 98%, showing experimental precision, moderate to high. The lines differed significantly for all characters, meaning there is genetic variability among genotypes evaluated. With intensity of selection of 10% of lines, it was obtained a genetic gain of 325.29 kg·ha-1 in the character productivity, a plant height (cm) reduction in 5.50 cm, and days until flowering, with a reduction of 9.23 days, with selection of earlier plants. The estimated values for heritability ranged from 38% - 96%. Estimates confirm the possible success with the selection of the upland rice lines for these characters.

Objective： The study aimed to evaluate the genotypic profiles of C. albicans （Candida albicans） sequentially isolated throughout the course of HIV infections, and to determine its MIC （minimal inhibitory concentrations） to AMB （amphotericin B）, FLC （fluconazole）, KTC （ketoconazole）, and ITC （itraconazole）. design： samples were collected from the oral cavity of HIV-positive individuals during 4 years, with a sterilized swab. MIC was performed by using the microdilution method AFST/EUCAST. The genetic similarities within and between sequential clones of C. albicans were assessed by DNA fingerprinting using the random amplification ofpolymorphic DNA technique. Results： A total of 142 oral samples were isolated from 59 HIV-infected individuals who attempted up to five visits each, with or without symptoms of oropharyngeal candidiasis. Profile analysis revealed that yeasts isolated over sequential visits from symptomatic or asymptomatic individuals showed 78% or 87% relatedness, respectively. The degree of similarity among C. albicans was higher for isolates from colonization than for those from infection. Genetically identical C. albicans samples also formed connected subelusters in sequential visits. In regard to susceptibility profile, all isolates were susceptible to AMB, FLC, KTC, and ITC and maintained this pattern all along, no differences in MICs of any given antifungal compound were observed for sequential C. albicans isolates. Conclusions： These data suggest that genotype and susceptibility to antifimgal drugs were maintained over time in sequentially isolates of C. albicans colonization and a diverse evolutionary genetic trend in C. albicans sequentially isolated from the oral eandidiasis of HIV infected individuals.

Vestibular Function Evaluation in Endemic Diseases Combat Agents

Introduction: Simultaneous exposure to certain chemical agents and noise may cause synergistic, additive or potentiating effects on the auditory and vestibular system. However, there is still a lack of studies investigating simultaneous exposure to pesticides and noise in the vestibular system. Purpose: To analyze the findings of the vestibular evaluation of endemic diseases combat agents when simultaneously exposed to pesticides and noise. Method: Thirty-three male pesticide-exposed and noise-fighting endemic diseases combat agents participated in the study. The age range was 48 to 67 years (mean = 56 years). All participants underwent vestibular examinations, such as positional nystagmus research, spontaneous nystagmus with open and closed eyes, semi-spontaneous nystagmus, optokinetic nystagmus, pendular screening, per rotatory, caloric tests and tonal audiometry. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics. Results: Altered exams were presented in 36.4% of the cases. There was no statistically significant relationship between pesticide handling time and test results (p = 0.2825). The results of pure tone audiometry correlated significantly (p = 0.0494) with the vestibular exams, as participants who presented with worse hearing thresholds at the frequency of 4000 Hz in the right ear also presented altered results in the vestibular exam. Conclusion: The present study concluded that more than 1/3 of the studied population presented with vestibular dysfunction, which was related to anterior and posterior labyrinth alteration (Cochlear-Vestibular Syndrome). No central vestibular alteration was noted in this population.
