The influence of disturbance on driving carbon stocks and tree dynamics of riparian forests in Cerrado

Aims Riparian forests in the Brazilian Cerrado,also known as gallery forests,are very heterogeneous in structure,species composition and ecological features due to strong and abrupt variations of soil,hydrological and topographic ***,what are the variables driving forest carbon stock and productivity,mortality and recruitment in disturbed gallery forests?Methods We used 36 permanent plots data from a gallery forest in the Brazilian *** investigated how tree community dynam-ics vary in a gallery forest on two contrasting disturbance levels-logged and non-logged-across a topographic gradient intrinsically related to differences in moisture conditions,edge effects,as well as soil fertility and *** Findings Soil variables were reduced into principal components and we used structural equation modelling to disentangle covarying *** also included carbon stocks as a determinant variable of dynamics *** forest had 50%higher productivity than non-logged forest and streamside forest had aboveground carbon stocks 70%higher than the forest *** logging and natural disturbance drove variation in the carbon stocks which contributed to shaping productivity and recruitment *** from the river also drove mortality and carbon stock *** with high-carbon stocks favoured higher competition and lessened produc-tivity and recruitment *** soil fertility and texture are considered crucial components shaping forest dynamics,there was no clear influence of those variables on the present forest,probably because the strong effects of soil moisture,forest edge and distur-bance disrupted the correlation between soil and forest dynamics.

Abstract In this paper, the stabilization problem of nonuniform Timoshenko beam by some nonlinear boundary feedback controls is considered. By virtue of nonlinear semigroup theory, energy-perturbed approach and exponential multiplier method, it is shown that the vibration of the beam under the proposed control action decays exponentially or in negative power of time t as t M X.

Neuronal activity controls the development of interneurons in the somatosensory cortex

BACKGROUND： Neuronal activity in cortical areas regulates neurodevelopment by interacting with defined genetic programs to shape the mature central nervous system. Electrical activity is conveyed to sensory cortical areas via intracortical and thalamocortical neurons, and includes oscillatory patterns that have been measured across cortical regions. OBJECTIVE： In this work, we review the most recent findings about how electrical activity shapes the developmental assembly of functional circuitry in the somatosensory cortex, with an emphasis on intemeuron maturation and integration. We include studies on the effect of various neurotransmitters and on the influence of thalamocortical afferent activity on circuit development. We additionally reviewed studies describing network activity patterns. METHODS： We conducted an extensive literature search using both the PubMed and Google Scholar search engines. The following keywords were used in various iterations：＂intemeuron＂, ＂somatosensory＂, ＂development＂, ＂activity＂, ＂network patterns＂, ＂thalamocortical＂, ＂NMDA receptor＂, ＂plasticity＂. We additionally selected papers known to us from past reading, and those recommended to us by reviewers and members of our lab. RESULTS： We reviewed a total of 132 articles that focused on the role of activity in interneuronal migration, maturation, and circuit development, as well as the source of electrical inputs and pattems of cortical activity in the somatosensory cortex. 79 of these papers included in this timely review were written between 2007 and 2016. CONCLUSIONS： Neuronal activity shapes the developmental assembly of functional circuitry in the somatosensory cortical interneurons. This activity impacts nearly every aspect of development and acquisition of mature neuronal characteristics, and may contribute to changing phenotypes, altered transmitter expression, and plasticity in the adult. 2019—2021年上海市宝山区聚集性呕吐腹泻疫情流行病学与病原学特征

目的掌握上海市宝山区聚集性呕吐腹泻疫情流行病学与病原学特征,为制定针对性防控措施提供依据。方法采用现场流行病学调查方法,对2019—2021年宝山区聚集性呕吐腹泻事件开展流行病学调查,采集病例、重点人群等肛拭子和环境涂抹标本开展病原学检测。结果2019—2021年共报告聚集性呕吐腹泻疫情69起,总罹患率为1.58%。主要检出病原体为诺如病毒(51起,占73.91%),疫情主要分布在冬春季节(67起,97.10%),主要发生在托幼机构(57.97%)和小学(28.97%)。疫情介入时间间隔为0~5 d,中位数为2 d,60起(86.96%)疫情在3 d内上报疾控中心;疫情持续时间为4~15 d,中位数为6 d,76.81%的疫情持续时间为4~6 d,疫情持续时间与疫情介入时间间隔的Spearman相关系数r=0.64(P<0.01)。结论聚集性呕吐腹泻疫情以人传人和接触传播为主,疫情发生多与病例处置措施不当有关,如未及时离开污染场所或未正确处置呕吐物等。早发现、早报告、早处置对于疫情的发生、发展至关重要。

Swelling characteristics of Gaomiaozi bentonite and its prediction

Gaomiaozi （GMZ） bentonite has been chosen as a possible matrix material of buffers/backfills in the deep geological disposal to isolate the high-level radioactive waste （HLRW） in China. In the Gaomiaozi deposit area, calcium bentonite in the near surface zone and sodium bentonite in the deeper zone are observed. The swelling characteristics of GMZ sodium and calcium bentonites and their mixtures with sand wetted with distilled water were studied in the present work. The test results show that the relationship be- tween the void ratio and swelling pressure of compacted GMZ bentonite-sand mixtures at full saturation is independent of the initial conditions such as the initial dry density and water content, hut dependent on the ratio of bentonite to sand. An empirical method was accordingly proposed allowing the prediction of the swelling deformation and swelling pressure with different initial densities and bentonite-sand ratios when in saturated conditions. Finally, the swelling capacities of GMZ Na- and Ca-bentonites and Kunigel Na-bentonite are compared.

Reduction of Volume-preserving Flows on an n-dimensional Manifold

Abstract A geometric reduction procedure for volume-preserving flows with a volume-preserving symmetry on an n-dimensional manifold is obtained. Instead of the coordinate-dependent theory and the concrete coordinate transformation, we show that a volume-preserving flow with a one-parameter volume-preserving symmetry on an n-dimensional manifold can be reduced to a volume-preserving flow on the corresponding (n-1)-dimensional quotient space. More generally, if it admits an r-parameter volume-preserving commutable symmetry, then the reduced flow preserves the corresponding (n - r)-dimensional volume form.

Copolymer-1（Cop-1） is a peptide with immunomodulatory properties, approved by the Food and Drug Administration of United States in the treatment of multiple sclerosis. Cop-1 has been shown to exert neuroprotective effects and induce neurogenesis in cerebral ischemia models. Nevertheless, the mechanism involved in the neurogenic action of this compound remains unknown. The choroid plexus（CP） is a network of cells that constitute the interphase between the immune and central nervous systems, with the ability to mediate neurogenesis through the release of cytokines and growth factors. Therefore, the CP could play a role in Cop-1-induced neurogenesis. In order to determine the participation of the CP in the induction of neurogenesis after Cop-1 immunization, we evaluated the gene expression of various growth factors（brain-derived neurotrophic factor, insulin-like growth factor 1, neurotrophin-3） and cytokines（tumor necrosis factor alpha, interferon-gamma, interleukin-4（IL-4）, IL-10 and IL-17）, in the CP at 14 days after ischemia. Furthermore, we analyzed the correlation between the expression of these genes and neurogenesis. Our results showed that Cop-1 was capable of stimulating an upregulation in the expression of the genes encoding for brain-derived neurotrophic factor, insulin-like growth factor 1, neurotrophin-3 and IL-10 in the CP, which correlated with an increase in neurogenesis in the subventricular and subgranular zone. As well, we observed a downregulation of IL-17 gene expression. This study demonstrates the effect of Cop-1 on the expression of growth factors and IL-10 in the CP, in the same way, presents a possible mechanism involved in the neurogenic effect of Cop-1.

Cognitive Impairment in Alzheimer’s Disease: Longitudinal Data from Brazilian Elderly

Research on cognitive aging is becoming increasingly common because aging is a global phenomenon and brings with it many challenges, for example, the increased incidence of dementias such as Alzheimer’s Disease (AD). Even if the cognitive decline in AD is apparently linear, impairment of autonomy in activities of daily living does not follow the same pattern. Objectives: To monitor and evaluate the cognitive aspects of elderly diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Methodological procedures: This research was conducted from January 2006 to July 2013 at the Clinic of Geriatrics and Gerontology. Longitudinal study of 51 elderly patients aged 60 years, of both sexes who received a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease by DSM-IV (APA, 1994) and NINDS-ADRDA (McKhann et al., 2011). Results: From the results obtained in the present study, we observed that the participants had a decline in cognitive function from the first to the second assessment, even with drug treatment.
