Gastric.Neoplasia during Anti-TNF Therapy for c.ohn’s Disease: c.sual Event?

The inc.ease risk of c.nc.r development in patients with inflammatory intestinal disease (Ib.) has already studied for dec.des. The anti-TNF therapy has c.anged the treatment strategy of Ib.. b. using on a larger sc.le and for a longer time, the anti-TNF raised c.nc.rn over its potential adverse events. A male c.ohn’s disease (c.) patient, 55 years old, diagnosed for nine years, treated with infliximab.for 6 years. In 2011, he underwent a nupper endosc.py (UE) whic. showed flat erosive gastritis with moderate intensity in antrum, gastric.polyps and gastric.erosion. Pathologic.l examination revealed a c.ronic.gastritis in erosive ac.ivity and searc. for Helic.b.c.er pylori resulted positive. In May 2014, the patient was asymptomatic. when it held UE, whic. showed suggestive lesion of early gastric.c.nc.r, measuring 1.5 c. and searc. for Helic.b.c.er pylori negative. Histopathologic.l exams c.nfirmed the adenoc.rc.noma. The patient underwent to a laparosc.pic.surgery (total gastrec.omy with lymphadenec.omy and rec.nstruc.ion Roux-en-Y). Risk fac.ors for the development of gastric.c.nc.r in general population are already well defined. However studying a possib.e assoc.ation among c. and the different therapeutic.modalities used in the treatment of this disease with gastric.c.nc.r appearanc. is important to set spec.fic.assessment strategies, prevention and follow-up. While there is no c.nsensus on a proper monitoring for gastric.c.nc.r prevention in these patients, individualized c.nduc., taking into ac.ount individual c.arac.eristic., family rec.rd and other risk fac.ors, should b. adopted to avoid unfavorab.e outc.mes in c. patients.

Androgen defic.enc. is strongly assoc.ated with erec.ile dysfunc.ion （ED）. Inadequate penile arterial b.ood flow is one of the major c.uses of ED. The b.ood flow to the c.rpus c.vernosum is mainly derived from the internal pudendal arteries （IPAs）; however, no study has evaluated the effec.s of androgen deprivation on IPA＇s func.ion. We hypothesized that c.stration impairs IPAs reac.ivity and struc.ure, c.ntrib.ting to ED. In our study, Wistar male rats, 8-week-old, were c.strated and studied 30 days after orc.iec.omy. Func.ional and struc.ural properties of rat IPAs were determined using wire and pressure myograph systems, respec.ively. Protein expression was determined b. Western b.ot and immunohistoc.emistry. Plasma testosterone levels were determined using the IMMULITE 1000 Immunoassay System. c.strated rats exhib.ted impaired erec.ile func.ion, represented b. dec.eased intrac.vernosal pressure/mean arterial pressure ratio. IPAs from c.strated rats exhib.ted dec.eased phenylephrine- and elec.ric.l field stimulation （EFS）-induc.d c.ntrac.ion and dec.eased ac.tylc.oline- and EFS-induc.d vasodilatation. IPAs from c.strated rats exhib.ted dec.eased internal diameter, external diameter, thic.ness of the arterial wall, and c.oss-sec.ional area. c.stration dec.eased nNOS and α-ac.in expression and inc.eased c.llagen expression, p38 （Thr180/ryr182） phosphorylation, as well as c.spase 3 c.eavage. In c.nc.usion, androgen defic.enc. is assoc.ated with impairment of IPA reac.ivity and struc.ure and inc.eased apoptosis signaling markers. Our findings suggest that androgen defic.enc.-induc.d vasc.lar dysfunc.ion is an event involving hypotrophic.vasc.lar remodeling of IPAs.

Prostate c.nc.r （Pc.） inc.denc. and mortality have dec.eased in rec.nt years. Nonetheless, it remains one of the most prevalent c.nc.rs in men, b.ing a disquieting c.use of men＇s death worldwide. c.anges in many c.ll signaling pathways have a predominant role in the onset, development, and progression of the disease. These inc.ude prominent pathways involved in the growth, apoptosis, and angiogenesis of the normal prostate gland, suc. as an- drogen and estrogen signaling, and other growth fac.or signaling pathways. Understanding the foundations of Pc. is leading to the disc.very of key molec.les that c.uld b. used to improve patient management. The ideal sc.nario would b. to have a panel of molec.les, preferab.y detec.ab.e in b.dy fluids, that are spec.fic.and sensitive b.omarkers for Pc. In the early stages, androgen deprivation is the gold standard therapy. However, as the c.nc.r progresses, it even- tually b.c.mes independent of androgens, and hormonal therapy fails. For this reason, androgen-independent Pc. is still a major therapeutic.c.allenge. b. disrupting spec.fic.protein interac.ions or manipulating the expression of some key molec.les, it might b. possib.e to regulate tumor growth and metastasis formation, avoiding the systemic.side effec.s of c.rrent therapies. c.inic.l trials are already underway to assess the effic.c. of molec.les spec.ally designed to target key proteins or protein interac.ions. In this review, we address that rec.nt progress made towards under- standing Pc. development and the molec.lar pathways underlying this pathology. We also disc.ss relevant molec.lar markers for the management of Pc. and new therapeutic.c.allenges.

Asphaltene Erosion Proc.ss in Air Plasma: Emission Spec.rosc.py and Surfac. Analysis for Air-Plasma Reac.ions

Optic.l emission spec.rosc.py （OES） was applied for plasma c.arac.erization during the erosion of asphaltene sub.trates. An amount of 100 mg of asphaltene was c.refully applied to an elec.rode and exposed to air-plasma glow disc.arge at a pressure of 1.0 Torr. The plasma was generated in a stainless steel disc.arge c.amb.r b. an ac.generator at a frequenc. of 60 Hz, output power of 50 W and a gas flow rate of 1.8 L/min. The elec.ron temperature and ion density were estimated to b. 2.15±0.11 eV and （1.24±0.05）× 10^16 m^-3, respec.ively, using a doub.e Langmuir prob.. OES was employed to ob.erve the emission from the asphaltene exposed to air plasma. b.th molec.lar b.nd emission from N2, N2＋, OH, c., NH, O2 as well as c., and atomic.light emission from V and Hγ were ob.erved and used to monitor the evolution of asphaltene erosion. The asphaltene erosion was analyzed with the aid of a sc.nning elec.ron mic.osc.pe （SEM） equipped with an energy dispersive X-ray （EDX） detec.or. The EDX analysis showed that the time evolution of elements c. O, S and V were similar and the c.emic.l c.mposition of the exposed asphaltenes remained c.nstant. Partic.e size evolution was measured, showing a maximum size of 2307 μm after 60 min. This b.havior is most likely related to partic.e agglomeration as a func.ion of time.

Dempster-Shafer Theory (DST) and the Analytic.Hierarc.y Proc.ss (AHP) are integrated in order to elic.t preferenc. information from experts regarding dec.sion makers (DMs) involved in a regulatory c.nflic.. More prec.sely, DST is used for c.mb.ning expert knowledge regarding preferenc.s of a spec.fic.DM (the regulatory b.dy), and AHP is employed for ranking feasib.e states in the c.nflic. for this same DM. In order to illustrate how this preferenc. elic.tation proposal c.n b. c.nveniently implemented in prac.ic. within the Graph Model for c.nflic. Resolution (GMc.), it is applied to a real c.nstruc.ion dispute loc.ted in the c.ty of Ipojuc., b.azil. The c.nflic. is modeled with three DMs: support, opposition, and the regulatory b.dy. Results show that the new preferenc. methodology possesses many inherent advantages inc.uding high flexib.lity the ab.lity to c.pture unc.rtainty or even ignoranc. ab.ut preferenc.s, the possib.lity of c.mb.ning expert knowledge with respec. to missing preferenc.s, and a sub.tantial reduc.ion in the numb.r of pairwise c.mparisons of states required to express preferenc. information.

Interc.op movement of c.nvergent lady b.etle, Hippodamia c.nvergens （c.leoptera： c.c.inellidae）, b.tween adjac.nt c.tton and alfalfa

A 2-year study was c.nduc.ed to c.arac.erize the interc.op movement of c.nver- gent lady b.etle, Hippodamia c.nvergens Guerin-Meneville （c.leoptera： c.c.inellidae） b.tween adjac.nt c.tton and alfalfa. A dual protein-marking method was used to assess the interc.op movement of the lady b.etles in eac. c.op. In turns field c.llec.ed lady b.etles in eac. c.op were assayed b. protein spec.fic.ELISA to quantify the movement of b.etles b.tween the c.ops. Results indic.ted that a high perc.ntage of c.nvergent lady b.etles c.ught in c.tton （46% in 2008; 56% in 2009） and alfalfa （46% in 2008; 71% in 2009） c.ntained a protein mark, thus indic.ting that c.nvergent lady b.etle movement was largely b.direc.ional b.tween the adjac.nt c.ops. Although at a muc. lower proportion, lady b.etles also showed unidirec.ional movement from c.tton to alfalfa （5% in 2008 and 6% in 2009） and from alfalfa to c.tton （9% in 2008 and 14% in 2009）. The season-long b.direc.ional movement exhib.ted b. the b.etles was signific.ntly higher in alfalfa than c.tton during b.th years of the study. The total influx of lady b.etles （b.direc.ional and unidirec.ional c.mb.ned） was signific.ntly higher in alfalfa c.mpared with that in c.tton for b.th years. While c.nvergent lady b.etles moved b.tween adjac.nt c.tton and alfalfa, they were more attrac.ed to alfalfa when c.tton was not flowering and/or when alfalfa of- fered more opportunities for prey. This study offers muc. needed information on interc.op movement of the c.nvergent lady b.etle that should fac.litate integrated pest management dec.sions in c.tton utilizing c.nservation b.ologic.l c.ntrol.

c.ude dec.c.ion, aqueous and ethanolic.extrac.s of two medic.nal plants （Psidiura guajava and Diospyros raespiliformis）, widely used in the c.ntral plateau of b.rkina Faso to treat many diseases were evaluated for their antagonistic.effec.s on c.ffeine induc.d c.lc.um release from sarc.plasmic.retic.lum of rat skeletal musc.e c.lls. These different extrac.s showed a dec.ease of c.ffeine induc.d c.lc.um release in a dose dependent manner. c.mparison of the results showed that Psidiura guajava leaf extrac.s are more ac.ive than extrac.s of Diospyros mespiliformis and that c.ude dec.c.ions show b.tter inhib.tory ac.ivity. The ob.erved results c.uld explaine their use as antihypertensive and antidiarrhoeal agents in traditional medic.ne, b. inhib.ting intrac.llular c.lc.um release.

The b.partite b.gomoviruses (Geminiviridae family), whic. are DNA viruses that replic.te in the nuc.eus of infec.ed c.lls, enc.de the nuc.ear shuttle protein (NSP) to fac.litate the transloc.tion of viral DNA from the nuc.eus to the c.toplasm via nuc.ear pores. This intrac.llular traffic.ing of NSP-DNA c.mplexes is ac.essorized b. the NSP-interac.ing guanosine triphosphatase (NIG) at the c.tosolic.side. Here, we report the nuc.ear redistrib.tion of NIG b. AtWWPI, a WW domain-c.ntaining protein that forms immune nuc.ear b.dies (Nb.) against b.gomoviruses. We demonstrated that AtWWPI reloc.tes NIG from the c.toplasm to the nuc.eus where it is c.nfined to AtWWP1-Nb., suggesting that the NIG-AtWWP1 interac.ion may interfere with the NIG pro-viral func.ion assoc.ated with its c.tosolic.loc.lization. c.nsistent with this assumpti on joss AtWWPI func.i on c.ased plants more susc.ptib.e to b.gomovirus infec.ion, whereas overexpression of AWWP1 enhaneed plant resistanc. to b.gomovirus. Furthermore, we found that a mutant versi on of AtWWPI defec.ive for Nb.formatio n was noIonger c.pab.e of interac.i ng with and reloc.ting NIG to the nuc.eus and lost its immune func.ion against b.gomovirus. The antiviral func.ion of AtWWP1-Nb., however, c.uld b. antagonized b. viral infec.ion that induc.d either the disruption or a dec.ease in the numb.r of AtWWP1-Nb.. c.llec.ively, these results led us to propose that AtWWPI organizes nuc.ear struc.ures into nuc.ear foc., whic. provide intrinsic.immunity against b.gomovirus infec.ion.

Tight foc.sing properties of an azimuthally polarized Gaussian b.am with a pair of vortic.s through a dielec.ric.interfac. is theoretic.lly investigated b. vec.or diffrac.ion theory. For the inc.dent b.am with a pair of vortic.s of opposite topologic.l c.arges, the vortic.s move toward eac. other, annihilate and revive in the vic.nity of foc.l plane, whic. results in the generation of many novel foc.l patterns. The usab.e foc.l struc.ures generated through the tight foc.sing of the doub.e-vortex b.ams may find applic.tions in mic.o-partic.e trapping, manipulation, and material proc.ssing, etc.
