Increased connectivity of hiPSC-derived neural networks in multiphase granular hydrogel scaffolds

To reflect human development,it is critical to create a substrate that can support long-term cell survival,differentiation,and *** are promising materials for 3D ***,a bulk structure consisting of dense polymer networks often leads to suboptimal microenvironments that impedes nutrient exchange and cell-to-cell ***,granular hydrogel-based scaffolds were used to support 3D human induced pluripotent stem cell(hiPSC)-derived neural networks.A custom designed 3D printed toolset was developed to extrude hyaluronic acid hydrogel through a porous nylon fabric to generate hydrogel *** and hydrogel granules were combined using a weaker secondary gelation step,forming self-supporting cell laden *** three and seven days,granular scaffolds supported higher cell viability compared to bulk hydrogels,whereas granular scaffolds supported more neurite bearing cells and longer neurite extensions(65.52±11.59μm)after seven days compared to bulk hydrogels(22.90±4.70μm).Long-term(three-month)cultures of clinically relevant hiPSC-derived neural cells in granular hydrogels supported well established neuronal and astrocytic colonies and a high level of neurite extension both inside and beyond the *** approach is significant as it provides a simple,rapid and efficient way to achieve a tissue-relevant granular structure within hydrogel cultures.

Rolling in Nature and Robotics: A Review

This paper presents a review of recent rolling robots including Rollo from helsinki University of Technology, Spherical Mobile Robot from the Politecnico of Bad, Sphericle from the University of Pisa, Spberobot from Michigan State University, August from Azad University of Qazvin and the University of Tehran, Deformable Robot from Ritsumeijan University, Kickbot from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Gravitational Wheeled Robot from Kinki University, Gyrover from Carnegie Mellon University, Roball from the Université de Sherbrooke, and Rotundus from the Angstroem Space Technology Center. Seven rolling robot design principles are presented and discussed （Sprung central member, Car driven, Mobile masses, hemispherical wheels, Gyroscopic stabilisation, Ballast mass - fixed axis, and Ballast mass - moving axis）. Robots based on each of the design principles are shown and the performances of the robots are tabulated. An attempt is made to grade the design principles based on their suitability for movement over an unknown and varied but relatively smooth terrain. The result of this comparison suggests that a rolling robot based on a mobile masses principle would be best suited to this specific application. Some wonderful rolling organisms are introduced and defined as ＂active＂ or ＂passive＂ depending on whether they generate their own rolling motion or external forces cause their rolling.

Nickel nanoparticles supported on nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes are a highly active,selective and stable CO_(2) methanation catalyst

CO_(2) methanation using nickel-based catalysts has attracted large interest as a promising power-to-gas *** nanoparticles supported on nitrogen-doped CNTs with Ni loadings in the range from 10 wt% to 50 wt% were synthesized by impregnation,calcination and reduction and characterized by elemental analysis,X-ray powder diffraction,h_(2) temperature-programmed reduction,CO pulse chemisorption and transmission electron *** Ni/NCNT catalysts were highly active in CO_(2) methanation at atmospheric pressure,reaching over 50% CO_(2) conversion and over 95% Ch_(4) selectivity at 340℃ and a GhSV of50,000 mL g^(-1) h^(-1) under kinetically controlled *** small Ni particle sizes below 10 nm despite the high Ni loading is ascribed to the efficient anchoring on the N-doped *** optimum loading of 30 wt%-40 wt% Ni was found to result in the highest Ni surface area,the highest degree of conversion and the highest selectivity to methane.A constant TOF of 0.3 s^(-1) was obtained indicating similar catalytic properties of the Ni nanoparticles in the range from 10 wt%to 50 wt% Ni ***-term experiments showed that the Ni/NCNT catalyst with 30 wt% Ni was highly stable for 100 h time on stream.

Utilization of ph-driven methods to fortify nanoemulsions with multiple polyphenols

Grain Size and Major Oxide Analyses of Selected Anthill Soils from Winneba Area, Ghana

Termites build their habitat in the form of anthills or termitaria or termite mounds which are characterised by soil of clayey texture. This paper investigated the relative grain size from the base, middle and near the peak of three anthills located 20 km west of Winneba near the Apam-Winneba highway in Ghana and also correlated their elemental compositions. The results showed significant grain size gradation of soils which range from 2O3 (22.18 - 28.88), MnO (0.08 - 0.09), and K2O (0.4 - 0.61). however, as K2O decreased with height on anthill, SiO2, total FeO and Al2O3 increased. Probably soils used to construct these anthills were derived from different rock types and/or the termites were selective in the use of soils rich in silica or iron oxide.

We report the dielectric constant of 1 M LiPF_(6)in EC:EMC 3∶7 w/w(ethylene carbonate/ethyl methyl carbonate)in addition to neat EC:EMC 3∶7 w/*** three Debye relaxations,the static permittivity value,or dielectric constant,is extrapolated to 18.5,which is compared to 18.7 for the neat solvent *** EC solvent is found to strongly coordinate with the Li^(+)cations of the salt,which results in a loss of dielectric contribution to the ***,the small amplitude and large uncertainty in relaxation frequency for EMC cloud definitive identification of the Li^(+)solvation ***,the loss of the free EC permittivity contribution due to Li^(+)solvation is almost completely balanced by the positive contribution of the associated LiPF_(6)salt,demonstrating that a significant quantity of dipolar ion pairs exists in 1 M LiPF_(6)in EC:EMC 3∶7.

Building 2D quasicrystals from 5-fold symmetric corannulene molecules

The formation of long-range ordered aperiodic molecular films on quasicrystalline substrates is a new challenge that provides an opportunity for further surface functionalization. This aim can be realized through the smart selection of molecular building blocks, based on symmetry-matching between the underlying quasicrystal and individual molecules. It was previously found that the geometric registry between the C60 molecules and the 5- and 10-fold surfaces was key to the growth of quasiperiodic organic layers. however, an attempt to form a quasiperiodic C60 network on i-Ag-In-Yb substrates was unsuccessful, resulting in disordered molecular films. here we report the growth of 5-fold symmetric corannulene C20h10 molecules on the 5-fold surfaces of i-Ag-In-Yb quasicrystals. Low-energy electron diffraction （LEED） and scanning tunneling microscopy （STM） revealed long-range quasiperiodic order and 5-fold rotational symmetry in self-assembled corannulene films. Recurrent decagonal molecular rings were seen, resulting from the decoration of specific adsorption sites with local pentagonal symmetry by corannulenes, adsorbed with their bowl-openings pointing away from the surface. They were identified as （Ag, In）-containing rhombic triacontahedral （RTh） duster centers and pentagonal Yb motifs, which cannot be occupied simultaneously due to steric hindrance. It is proposed that symmetry-matching between the molecule and specific substrate sites drives this organization. Alteration of the molecular rim by the introduction of Ch substituents appeared to increase molecule mobility on the potential energy surface and facilitate trapping at these specific sites. This finding suggests that rational selection of molecular moiety enables the templated self-assembly of molecules leading to an ordered aperiodic corannulene layer.

Surface passivation and boundary lubrication of self-mated tetrahedral amorphous carbon asperities under extreme tribological conditions

Tetrahedral amorphous carbon coatings have the potential to significantly reduce friction and wear between sliding ***,we provide atomistic insights into the evolution of the sliding interface between naked and hydrogen-passivated ta-C sliding partners under dry and lubricated *** reactive classical atomistic simulations we show that sliding induces a sp3 to sp2 rehybridization and that the shear resistance is reduced by hydrogen-passivation and hexadecane-lubrication-despite our finding that nanoscale hexadecane layers are not always able to separate and protect ta-C counter surfaces during *** asperities deform,carbon atoms within the hexadecane lubricant bind to the ta-C sliding partners resulting in degradation of the hexadecane molecules and in increased material intermixing at the sliding *** atoms from the passivation layer and from the hexadecane chains continue to be mixed within a sp2 rich sliding interface eventually generating a tribo-layer that resembles an a-C:h type of *** separation of the sliding partners,the tribo-couple splits within the newly formed sp2 rich a-C:h mixed layer with significant material transfer across the sliding *** leaves behind a-C:h coated ta-C surfaces with dangling C bonds,linear C chains and hydrocarbon fragments.
