The human body is populated by a large number of microbial colonies,with an estimated 10-100 trillion *** total genome size of human microbial colonies by far overwhelms the size of the host’s *** heterogenous group of microbial colonies(primarily bacteria,but also archaea,eukaryotes and viruses)is referred to with the term microbiota,and although most of them populate the gut,microbes are also detectable in many other organs of the body,especially in the distal tracts of the genitourinary system and the *** the last years,an increasing amount of evidence has been accumulated on how the microbiota exerts a significant influence on the development and physiology of the human body.

particulate matter （pM） emissions from steelworks cause public concern. Although end-of-pipe and pro- cess integrated measures have led to a significant drop in emissions of large particles from stacks, fine aerosols were not specifically considered, nor were emissions from fugitive and open sources. In this study, we deployed aerosol samplers together with a scanning ultra-violet （UV） lidar to characterize total suspended particles （TSp）, pM10, and pM2.5, in emissions from a large integrated steelworks in Spain over a 16-day period. We determined the content of carbonaceous, soluble inorganic, mineral dust, and metal species. A positive matrix factorization was carried out on our dataset. Despite mineral dust being predominant in all size fractions, the steelworks was clearly a source of carbonaceous species, resulting in production of secondary inorganic aerosols. In particular, stack emissions were a major contributor of fine particles, while open sources dominated the emissions of TSp, yielding up to 80% of particles larger than pM10. UV lidar provided 2D maps of aerosols in real time, with an ability to detect pM emissions and to visualize complex plumes. We suggest that air quality management of steelworks needs to focus on controlling large and coarse oarticle emissions, esoeciallv those from onen sources.

This study investigated the effects of yerba mate consumption, a South American beverage, on cardiac remodeling in rats. For this purpose, 24 male Wistar rats were divided into Control Group (CG) which received filtered water and a standard diet, and Yerba Mate Group (YM), 6 g of Ilex paraguariensis in 100 ml water and the same diet, for 30 days. The YM group showed a reduction in final body weight and food consumption without altering weight gain. Regarding cardiac remodeling, the YM group exhibited a decrease in the right ventricle weight/final body weight ratio, suggesting cardiac atrophy, without affecting the atria and left ventricle. There was no change in cardiomyocyte area or nuclear fractal dimension in both groups. However, animals that consumed yerba mate showed increased collagen deposition and a smaller fractal dimension in the left ventricle. The consumption of yerba mate at room temperature for 30 days induced changes in cardiac remodeling, as evidenced by increased collagen deposition and alterations in fractal dimension in the left ventricle.

Dear Editor, The maize Mutator （MuDRIMu） transposon family is the most active DNA transposon in plants （Lisch, 2002）. The Mu family contains diverse elements, all sharing similar -215-bp terminal inverted repeats （TIRs）. MuDR is the autonomous element, and a transcriptionally active MuDR is required for transposition of the non-autonomous Mu elements （Chomet et al., 1991）. MuDR contains two genes, mudrA and mudrB （Figure 1A）; mudrA encodes the MURA transposase, and mudrB encodes a protein with unknown function. To avoid the deleterious effects of transposons, plants have acquired mechanisms to epigenetically silence them. Silenced Mu ele- ments become heavily methylated, and their reactivation is very rare. To date, only UV-B radiation treatments have reac- tivated silenced Mu （Walbot, 1999）.
