Effect of Disinfectants on Elastic Modulus, Flexural Strength and Color Stability of Denture Base Resins

Objective: Infection control protocols dictate the disinfection of dentures. There are no products available which are designed for the specific use of disinfecting dentures. The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of chemical disinfectants on elastic modulus, flexural strength and color stability of denture base resins. Methods: 256 specimens from four acrylic denture base resins were manufactured. Two cold-curing denture base resins: PalaXpress (Heraeus Kulzer, Hanau, Germany), Futura Gen (Schuetz Dental, Roßbach, Germany) and two heat-curing denture base resins: Paladon 65 (Heraeus Kulzer, Hanau, Germany), FuturAcryl 2000 (Schuetz Dental, Roßbach, Germany) were used. Three chemical disinfecting agents were tested: Impresept, D050 Instru-Gen, Stammopur DR. Specimens were stored in distilled water and in chemical disinfecting agents. They were divided randomly into groups. E-Modulus and flexural strength were measured using the three-point bending test. Color changes (ΔE) were determined spectrophotometrically. Results: The disinfection agents showed no significant influence on the E-modulus compared to distilled water (Acrylic vs. distilled water from (Futura Gen) 2688.80 ± 230.78 vs. 2766.60 ± 91.22 MPa to (PalaXpress) 3004.20 ± 26.40 vs. 2851.00 ± 95.23 MPa). Flexural strength after storage in distilled water and disinfection did not differ significantly (Acrylic vs. distilled water from (Paladon65) 27.28 ± 1.30 vs. 28.42 ± 0.84 N/mm2, (p > 0.05) to (PalaXpress) 30.88 ± 0.25 vs. 29.68 ± 0.79 N/mm2, p < 0.001). Disinfection caused a significant color change with Impresept of Paladon 65 (p ≤ 0.001), FuturaAcryl 2000 with Stammopur DR and D 050 Instru-Gen (p ≤ 0.001). Conclusions: The investigated disinfection agents did not influence elastic modulus and flexural strength of denture base resins negatively. ΔE-values were in a range of 1 to 2. Thus, the detected color changes may be marginal. Clinical relevance: Single use disinfections

Background: Since genetically engineered mice are becoming more and more available, these animals become of high interest to study physiologic and pathophysiologic pathways of brain ischemia. The aim of this study was to examine body temperature (Tb), physical activity variation and neurohistopathology in mice exposed to normothermic and hyperthermic cardiac arrest and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CA/CPR). Methods: Male C57bl/6 mice weighing 22 - 27 g were implanted intraperitoneally with a radio telemeter and subjected to 10 min cardiac arrest followed by cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Normothermia (37.5°C) or hyperthermia (39.0°C) was induced by controlling pericranial temperature during the arrest period. Results: Hyperthermia during the arrest resulted in a Tb decrease during early recovery to a nadir of 28°C ± 0.8°C (mean ± SE) and partially recovered to 34.4°C ± 1°C 36 hrs after CA/CPR. With normothermia during the arrest, Tb depression was less pronounced (nadir of 32.3°C ± 0.3°C) and recovered to physiologic levels within 24 hrs. Coupling of physical activity and body temperature was absent in all animals after CA/CPR. Neuronal injury in the caudoputamen was greater in the hyperthermia group. Conclusions: This study demonstrates that CA/CPR eliminates normal connectivity between body temperature and physical activity and induces long-lasting hypothermia, the depth of which is related to severity of brain injury. Long term temperature monitoring is required in survival murine experiments, if body temperature is a study variable.

目的:观察自体血穴位注射对哮喘大鼠免疫学机制的影响。方法:SD大鼠随机分为正常组(8只)、模型组(10只)、生理盐水穴位注射组(10只)、自体血穴位注射组(10只)和地塞米松腹腔注射组(10只)。后4组通过腹腔注射鸡卵蛋白(OVA)加氢氧化铝混合溶液每周1次致敏,2周后每天OVA超声雾化激发哮喘。自体血组穴位注射自体血(0.4mL/穴),"肺俞"穴和"肾俞"穴轮流取穴,隔天1次,共6次。免疫组化半定量法测肺中GATA 3和T-bet蛋白,RT-PCR法测其mRNA的表达。结果:模型组GATA 3、GATA 3mRNA表达和GATA 3mRNA/T-bet mRNA的比值(G/T比)均明显高于正常组(P<0.01),T-bet mRNA表达明显低于正常组(P<0.01)。自体血组GATA 3、GATA 3mRNA的表达及G/T比均明显低于模型组(P<0.01),T-bet及其mRNA的表达均明显高于模型组(P<0.01)。盐水穴位注射对哮喘模型无明显调节效果。地塞米松对GATA 3的作用与自体血相当,但对T-bet的调节不明显。结论:自体血穴位注射可以良性调节辅助性T细胞所分泌细胞因子的失衡,其作用与地塞米松腹腔注射相当。

【目的】观察自血穴位注射对哮喘模型大鼠肺组织炎症和Th2/Th1细胞因子的影响。【方法】选用SD大鼠随机分为5组:正常组(8只),模型组、生理盐水(NS)组、自血穴注组(自血组)和地塞米松腹注组(地米组)(各10只)。后4组采用腹腔注射鸡卵清蛋白(OVA)加氢氧化铝混合溶液每周1次致敏,2周后每天采用OVA超声雾化激发哮喘,自血组穴注自体血(0.4 mL/穴),肺俞穴和肾俞穴轮流取穴,隔天1次,共6次;NS组和地米组疗程同自血组。取左肺组织进行病理检查;采用酶联免疫吸附(ELISA)法测定外周血白细胞介素4、5(IL-4、IL-5)(Th2)和干扰素-γ(IFN-γ)(Th1)含量。【结果】模型组肺部炎症细胞浸润明显,IL-4、IL-5、IFN-γ含量均显著增高,IL-4/IFN-γ比值(4/I)和IL-5/IFN-γ比值(5/I)显著增高,与正常组比较差异均有统计学意义(P<0.05或P<0.01)。自血组肺部炎症细胞浸润有所改善,可显著降低IL-4、IL-5含量及4/I和5/I比值,与模型组比较差异均有统计学意义(P<0.05或P<0.01)。【结论】自血穴位注射治疗哮喘的作用机理与其能减轻肺组织炎症浸润,调节Th2/Th1失衡有关。

Scientific research has yet of cage size on mouse breeding to conclusively determine the optimal cage size for mice. The authors examined the effect performance and on offspring behavior, which can serve as indications of overall wellbeing. They housed breeding trios of C57bl/6Tac mice in standard or large individually ventilated cages and measured four reproductive parameters: litter size; litter survival to weaning age; average pup weight at 7, 14 and 21 days; and the number of days between litter births. They investigated the behavior of a subset of male and female pups from parents housed in cages of each size in the elevated plus maze test, the open field assay and the acoustic startle test. Cage size had no significant effect on any of the reproductive parameters measured and few or inconsistent effects on behavior in weaned pups. Lab Animal 2007,36(10)
