Sparse-Grid Im.lem.ntation of Fixed-Point Fast Sweeping WENO Schem.s for Eikonal Equations

Fixed-point fast sweeping m.0}hods are a class of explicit iterative m.0}hods developed in the literature to efficiently solve steady-state solutions of hyperbolic partial differential equations(PDEs).As other types of fast sweeping schem.s,fixed-point fast sweeping m.0}hods use the Gauss-Seidel iterations and alternating sweeping strategy to cover characteristics of hyperbolic PDEs in a certain direction sim.ltaneously in each sweeping *** resulting iterative schem.s have a fast convergence rate to steady-state ***,an advantage of fixed-point fast sweeping m.0}hods over other types of fast sweeping m.0}hods is that they are explicit and do not involve the inverse operation of any nonlinear local ***,they are robust and flexible,and have been com.ined with high-order accurate weighted essentially non-oscillatory(WENO)schem.s to solve various hyperbolic PDEs in the *** m.ltidim.nsional nonlinear problem.,high-order fixed-point fast sweeping WENO m.0}hods still require quite a large am.unt of com.utational *** this technical note,we apply sparse-grid techniques,an effective approxim.tion tool for m.ltidim.nsional problem.,to fixed-point fast sweeping WENO m.0}hods for reducing their com.utational ***,we focus on fixed-point fast sweeping WENO schem.s with third-order accuracy(Zhang et al.2006[41]),for solving Eikonal equations,an im.ortant class of static Ham.lton-Jacobi(H-J)*** experim.nts on solving m.ltidim.nsional Eikonal equations and a m.re general static H-J equation are perform.d to show that the sparse-grid com.utations of the fixed-point fast sweeping WENO schem.s achieve large savings of CPU tim.s on refined m.shes,and at the sam. tim. m.intain com.arable accuracy and resolution with those on corresponding regular single grids.

The bidirectional association between type 2 diabetes m.llitus(T2Dm.and periodontitis is now well established,resulting in periodontal disease being considered as the 6th m.jor com.lication of diabetes m.llitus(Dm.after cardiovascular disease,eye disease,neuropathy,nephropathy,and peripheral vascular *** can worsen the virulence and invasiveness of pathogenic oral m.crobial flora aggravating the local inflam.ation and infection in those with periodontal *** the other hand,the chem.cal and im.unological m.diators released into the circulation as part of periodontal inflam.ation worsen the system.c insulin resistance with worsening of *** if undiagnosed or left untreated can also result in eventual tooth loss.A study by Xu et al in the World Journal of Diabetes exam.ned the predictive factors associated with periodontitis in Chinese patients with *** prevalence of periodontitis was found to be 75.7%in this *** on logistic regression analysis,the predictive factors for higher risk were low tooth brushing frequency[odds ratio(OR)=4.3],high triglycerides(TG;OR=3.31),high total cholesterol(TC;OR=2.87),higher glycated hem.globin(HbA1c;OR=2.55),and higher age(OR=1.05)while higher education level was protective(OR=0.53).However,the m.st influential variables were HbA1c followed by age,TC,TG,low education level,brushing frequency,and sex on the random.forest m.del(this m.del showed higher sensitivity for predicting the risk).A good understanding of the predictors for periodontitis in T2Dm.patients is im.ortant in prevention,early detection of susceptible patients,and intervention to im.rove periodontal health and enable long-term.glycaem.c control as observed by Xu et al.

Tuberculosis(TB)rem.ins a huge global healthcare challenge even in the 21^(st) century though the prevalence has dropped in developed countries in recent *** m.llitus(Dm.is an im.ortant risk factor for the developm.nt and perpetuation of TB owing to the im.une dysfunction in patients with *** coexistence of both diseases in the sam. individual also aggravates disease severity,com.lications,and chance of treatm.nt failure because of gross im.une alterations posed by Dm.as well as *** com.lex cellular and hum.ral im.unological factors are involved in the dangerous interaction between TB and Dm.som. of which rem.in unknown even *** is highly im.ortant to identify the risk factors for TB in patients with Dm.and vice versa,to ensure early diagnosis and m.nagem.nt to prevent com.lications from.this om.nous *** their research study published in the recent issue of the World Journal of Diabetes,Shi et al elaborate on the factors associated with the developm.nt of TB in a large cohort of Dm.patients from.*** such research output from.different regions of the world is expected to im.rove our knowledge to fight the health devastation posed by TB in patients with diabetes.

Despite the advent of relatively reliable m.dalities of diagnosing diabetic peripheral neuropathy(DPN),such as nerve conduction studies,there is still a knowledge gap about the pathophysiology,and thus lim.ted available in-terventions for sym.tom.control and curtailing disease *** pharm.-cologic aspect of m.nagem.nt is m.inly centred on pain control,however,there are several im.ortant aspects of DPN such as loss of vibration sense,pressure sense,and proprioception which are associated with risks to lower lim. health,which pharm.cotherapy does not ***,published evidence suggests non-pharm.cologic interventions such as glycaem.c control through dietary m.dification and exercise need to be com.ined with other m.asures such as psychotherapy,to reach a desired,however m.dest *** is em.rging as an im.ortant treatm.nt m.dality for several chronic m.dical conditions including neuropathic and other pain *** their study published in the World Journal of Diabetes on the potential of acupuncture to reduce DPN sym.tom. and enhance nerve conduction param.0}ers,Hoerder et al have been able to dem.nstrate that acupuncture im.roves sensory function and that this effect is likely sustained two m.nths after treatm.nt *** previous studies also support these findings,larger m.lti-center random.zed control trials including a sham.controlled arm.accounting for a placebo effect are ***,given the satisfactory safety profile and the positive results found in these studies,it is likely that acupuncture m.y becom. an im.ortant aspect of the repertoire of effective DPN m.nagem.nt.
