The epidemic of obesity and its co-mortalities has reached an alarming level ***,metabolic surgeries,especially the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and vertical sleeve gastrectomy,are the most effective and sustainable treatments for obesity,type 2 diabetes,non-alcoholic steatohepatitis,as well as other metabolic ***,the invasive nature of the surgeries limits their broad ap-plications to the general ***,developing alternative non-invasive approaches to mimic metabolic surgery is an important direction of the *** studies have identified several potential metabolic surgery-induced downstream endocrine mediators,among which bile acids are key candidate signaling *** acids are profoundly altered by metabolic surgery,which contributes to the metabolic effects of the *** this review,we focus on the most recent studies on the roles of bile acids and bile acid receptors farnesoid X receptor and Takeda G protein-coupled receptor 5 in mediating the metabolic effects of metabolic *** conclude that targeting bile acid pathways may be a promising pharmacological approach to mimic the beneficial effects of metabolic surgery.

Does laser surface texturing really have a negative impact on the fatigue lifetime of mechanical components?

Laser surface texturing(LST)has been proven to improve the tribological performance of machine *** micro-scale patterns manufactured by LST may act as lubricant reservoirs,thus supplying oil when encountering insufficient ***,not many studies have investigated the use of LST in the boundary lubrication regime,likely due to concerns of higher contact stresses that can occur with the increasing surface *** study aims to examine the influence of LST on the fatigue lifetime of thrust rolling bearings under boundary lubrication.A series of periodic patterns were produced on the thrust rolling bearings,using two geometrically different designs,namely cross and dimple *** oil ISO VG 100 mixed with 0.05 wt%P of zinc dialkyldithiophosphate(ZDDP)was *** bearings with cross patterns reduce the wear loss by two orders of *** patterns not only retain lubricant in the textured pockets but also enhance the formation of an anti-wear *** tribofilm generation may be improved by the higher contact stresses that occur when using the textured ***,in contrast to the negative concerns,the ball bearings with cross patterns were instead found to increase the fatigue life by a factor of three.

Ionic liquids(ILs)have been used effectively in many applications for reducing problems related to friction and *** this work,the potential of ILs as an anti-wear and extreme pressure lubricant additive for high load-carrying gearbox applications such as helicopter transmissions has been *** halide-free ILs:P_(8881)(BuO)_(2)PO_(2)^(-)(1)and P_(8881)(MeO)_(2)PO_(2)^(-)(2),which are blended at 5 wt%each into a standard non-additivated FVA2 base oil(BO)are *** solid-liquid interface,friction and load-carrying capacity,and wear(scuffing)behavior are studied on the nano-,lab-,and component-scale,respectively,at a different range of temperature and loading conditions by using the atomic force microscopy(AFM),Schwing-Reib-Verschleiβ(SRV)friction tests,and Brugger tests,as well as forschungsstelle für zahnrader und getriebebau(FZG)back-to-back gear test *** AFM analysis shows nearly no change of adhesion over the full range of studied temperature for the IL blends compared to the ***,IL blends demonstrate a very stable coefficient of friction(COF)of around 0.16,which even decreases with increasing test temperatures ranging from 40 to 120℃.A clear reduction in COF up to 25%is achieved by adding only 5 wt%of the investigated Ils in the BO,and the Brugger tests also show a pronounced enhancement of load-carrying ***,on the component-scale,a significant improvement in gear scuffing performance has been observed for both used IL blends.A detailed characterization of the wear tracks from the SRV friction tests via the transmission electron microscopy(TEM)revealed the formation of a phosphate(P-O)-based amorphous tribo-chemical layer of about 20 nm ***,this work may present an approach for Ils to be used as an additive in conventional lubricants due to their ability to enhance the lubrication properties,making them an alternative lubricant solution for high load-carrying gearbox applications.

Background:The recent outbreak of the Ebola virus disease(EVD)in Sierra Leone has been characterized by the World Health Organization as one of the most challenging EVD outbreaks to *** first confirmed case in Sierra Leone was a young woman who was admitted to a government hospital in Kenema following a miscarriage on 24 May *** 5 January 2015,intensified training for an EVD response project was initiated at the medical university of Sierra Leone in *** understand the knowledge,attitudes,practices,and perceived risk of EVD among the public,especially after this training,a rapid assessment was conducted from 10 to 16 March ***:Interviews were conducted with 466 participants based on questionnaires that were distributed from 10 to 16 March 2015 by cluster sampling in three adjacent communities,namely jui,Grafton,and Kossoh Town,in the Western Area Rural District of Sierra ***:It was found that knowledge about EVD was comprehensive and *** attitude towards prevention was found to be *** all participants knew the reporting phone number 117 and had reported some change in behavior since learning about *** than half(62%)of the participants had a history of travelling to urban areas,which increases the risk of *** multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that community and occupation were variables associated with perceived risk of ***:Our study showed that community level social mobilization and community engagement were an effective strategy in the special context.
