Conjugation of Chitooligosaccharide-5-fluorouracil with Bovine Serum Albumin

The interaction between chitooligosaccharide-5-fluorouracil （cos-5FU） and bovine serum albumin （BSA） was studied by fluorescence spectroscopy. It was found that an energy transfer between cos-5FU and BSA had been occurred. The binding constants were calculated, k298K=1.175×10^4 L·mol^-1. Based on the mechanism of energy transfer of dipole-dipole interaction between the donor and acceptor, the distance between BSA and cos-SFU was determined.

The protective role of(poly)phenols against metabolic disorders has been extensively studied in adults but not in *** assess associations of dietary(poly)phenols and their subclasses with cardiometabolic health parameters in adolescents.A cross-sectional study was conducted in 944 individuals aged 11–14 years enrolled in the SI!Program for Secondary Schools trial(nCT03504059).(Poly)phenol intake was assessed using semiquantitative food frequency questionnaires and the Phenol-Explorer *** measured cardiometabolic parameters were waist circumference(WC)age-sex Z-score,blood pressure(BP)age-sex Z-score,blood glucose(BG),triglycerides(TG),and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-c).Multilevel mixedeffect linear regression models were applied to examine the association between(poly)phenol quintiles and cardiometabolic health *** to the lowest quintile,adolescents in the highest quintile of total(poly)phenol intake had lower WC Z-scores,mean arterial pressure Z-scores,and HDL-c after multivariable *** WC Z-scores and HDL-c were lower in the highest quintile of flavonoid intake compared to the lowest *** highest quintile of phenolic acid intake was associated with a lower WC Z-score and TG levels,and the highest quintile of stilbene intake with lower BG and TG,and with higher HDL-c compared to the lowest quintile.A higher intake of(poly)phenols,especially flavonoids,phenolic acids,and stilbenes,was associated with better cardiometabolic parameters in adolescents.

Removing carbonyl sulfide with metal-modified activated carbon

A Cu-Co-K/activated carbon （AC） adsorbent has been developed for the removal of carbonyl sulfide （cos）. The effects of cos concentration, reaction temperature and relative humidity were closely examined. A breakthrough of 33.23 mg cos .gl adsorbent at 60℃, under 30% relative humidity and in presence of 1.0% oxygen was exhibited in the Cu-Co-K/AC adsorbent prepared. Competitive adsorption studies for cos in the presence of CS2, and H2S were also conducted. TPD analysis was used to identify sulfur-containing products on the carbon surface, and the results indicated that H2S, cos and SO2 were all evident in the effluent gas generated from the exhausted Cu-Co-K/AC. Structure of the activated carbon samples has been characterized using nitrogen adsorption, and their surface chemical structures were also determined with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy （XPS）. It turns out that the modification with Cu（OH）2CO3- CoPcS-KOH can significantly improve the cos removal capacity, forming SO2/4 species simultaneously. Regenera- tion of the spent activated carbon sorbents by thermal desorption has also been explored.

Removal of carbofuran is not affected by co-application of chlorpyrifos in a coconut fiber/compost based biomixture after aging or pre-exposure

Biomixtures constitute the biologically active part of biopurification systems（BPS）, which are used to treat pesticide-containing wastewater. The aim of this work was to determine whether co-application of chlorpyrifos（CLP） affects the removal of carbofuran（CFn）（both insecticide/nematicides） in a coconut fiber–compost–soil biomixture（FCS biomixture）, after aging or previous exposure to CFn. Removal of CFn and two of its transformation products（3-hydroxycarbofuran and 3-ketocarbofuran） was enhanced in pre-exposed biomixtures in comparison to aged biomixtures. The co-application of CLP did not affect CFn removal, which suggests that CLP does not inhibit microbial populations in charge of CFn *** to the removal behavior, mineralization of radiolabeled14C-pesticides showed higher mineralization rates of CFn in aged biomixtures（with respect to freshly prepared or pre-exposed biomixtures）. In the case of CLP, mineralization was favored in freshly prepared biomixtures, which could be ascribed to high sorption during aging and microbial inhibition by CFn in pre-exposure. Regardless of removal and mineralization results, toxicological assays revealed a steep decrease in the acute toxicity of the matrix on the microcrustacean Daphnia magna（over 97%） after 8 days of treatment of individual pesticides or the mixture CFn/*** suggest that FCS biomixtures are suitable to be used in BPS for the treatment of wastewater in fields where both pesticides are employed.

Systemic Activation of Defensive Enzymes and Protection in Tobacco Plantlets against <i>Phytophthora nicotianae</i>Induced by Oligosaccharins

Oligosaccharins are potent biomolecules which activate defense responses and resistance in tobacco plants. However, it is not known the systemic behavior of defensive enzymes activated by these elicitors. In this work, the dynamic behavior of key defensive enzymes was evaluated in tobacco plant leaves previously treated through the roots with chitosan polymer (CH), chitosan (cos) and pectic (OGAS) oligosaccharides and Spermine (Sp). All macromolecules tested activated protein levels and defense enzymatic activity in tobacco leaves but with different response dynamics among them and depending on the biochemical variable evaluated. Defense response above control levels were detected since 12 hours after treatments and it consisted in a biphasic behavior with two peaks for PAL (EC 4.***.1.5) and β 1 - 3 glucanase (EC 3.***.1.6) enzymatic activities. The highest enzymatic levels for these enzymes were achieved at 48 hours in plantlets elicited with cos and at 72 hours for those plants treated with chitosan polymer, while the highest POD (EC 1.***.1.6) activity was detected with CH between 48 and 72 hours. These results demonstrated systemic defense activation by oligosaccharins in tobacco whose dynamic of defense response is affected by the kind of oligosaccharins tested. When applying OGAS by foliar spray on tobacco, systemic resistance against Phytoththora nicotianae was induced and plantlets were protected with the low concentration tested by 46% under the bioassays conditions performed. Moreover, enzymatic determinations on roots and leaves previous to plant-pathogen interaction showed increments above 30% of control levels for PAL and POD activities. It means that oligosaccharins activate local and systemic defense responses in plants in the absent of pathogen infection.
