BACKGROUND Equations for estimation glomerular filtration rate(eGFR)have been associated with poor clinical performance and their clinical accuracy and reliability have been called into *** To assess the longitudinal changes in measured glomerular filtration rate(mGFR)in patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease(ADPKD).METHODS Analysis of an ambispective data base conducted on consecutive patients diagnosed with *** mGFR was assessed by iohexol clearance;while eGFR was calculated by three different formulas:(1)The chronic kidney disease epidemiology collaboration(CKD-EPI);(2)Modification of diet in renal disease(MDRD);and(3)The 24-hour urine creatinine clearance(CrCl).The primary end-points were the mean change in mGFR between the baseline and final visit,as well as the comparison of the mean change in mGFR with the change estimated by the different *** Thirty-seven patients were included in the *** compared to baseline,month-6 mGFR was significantly decrease by-4.4 mL/minute±10.3 mL/minute(P=0.0132).However,the CKD-EPI,MDRD,and CrCl formulas underestimated this change by 48.3%,89.0%,and 45.8%respectively,though none of these differences reached statistical significance(P=0.3647;P=0.0505;and P=0.736,respectively).The discrepancies between measured and estimated glomerular filtration rate values,as evaluated by CKD-EPI(r=0.29,P=0.086);MDRD(r=0.19,P=0.272);and CrCl(r=0.09,P=0.683),were not correlated with baseline mGFR *** This study indicated that eGFR inaccurately reflects the decline in mGFR and cannot reliably track changes over *** poses significant challenges for clinical decision-making,particularly in treatment strategies.

A defensive （offensive） k-alliance in F = （V, E） is a set S C V such that every v in S （in the boundary of S） has at least k more neighbors in S than it has in V ／ S. A set X C_ V is defensive （offensive） k-alliance free, if for all defensive （offensive） k-alliance S, S／ X ≠ 0, i.e., X does not contain any defensive （offensive） k-alliance as a subset. A set Y C V is a defensive （offensive） k-alliance cover, if for all defensive （offensive） k-alliance S, S ∩ Y ≠ 0, i.e., Y contains at least one vertex from each defensive （offensive） k-alliance of F. In this paper we show several mathematical properties of defensive （offensive） k-alliance free sets and defensive （offensive） k-alliance cover sets, including tight bounds on their cardinality.

The central region of Argentina is known to be a source of some most extreme weather events in the world, which are partially associated with the passage of cold fronts accompanied often by extreme wind gusts. This may cause severe property damage and even loss of human life. Nevertheless, there is a lack of studies that evaluate the performance of the numerical weather prediction(NWP) models such as weather research and forecasting(WRF) model in anticipating this type of weather in the region. This study compares the performance of the operational WRF in Argentina using four combinations of various planetary boundary layer(PBL) and microphysics parameterization schemes under varied lead times in predicting an extreme wind event(gusts > 30 m s-1) in Central Argentina. The results demonstrate that the WRF model is capable of providing an acceptable prediction of wind speed during an extreme event. It is found that no single combination outperforms the others, although there is a slight tendency for Combination A, which utilizes the Mellor–Yamada–Janjic(MYJ) parameterization for the PBL and the Eta similarity parameterization for the surface layer, to more accurately capture the extreme wind speed. Compared with wind gust observations at five weather stations, the wind gust parameterization predicted the intensity and occurrence time of the peak wind, with an acceptable bias(time of peak < ±1 h). Analysis of grid configurations(resolutions of 4 vs9/3/1 km) revealed that higher resolution does not imply an improvement in the wind gust forecast for this particular event. With regard to lead time, a shorter lead time does not necessarily result in more accurate forecasts. Nevertheless, it is beneficial to conduct multiple sensitivity runs in order to obtain and understand the dispersion of forecasted wind speeds.

Perinatal complications,such as asphyxia,can cause brain injuries that are often associated with subsequent neurological deficits,such as cerebral palsy or mental *** mechanisms of perinatal brain injury are not fully understood,but mitochondria play a prominent role not only due to their central function in metabolism but also because many proteins with apoptosis-related functions are located in the *** these proteins,apoptosis-inducing factor has already been shown to be an important factor involved in neuronal cell death upon hypoxia-ischemia,but a better understanding of the mechanisms behind these processes is required for the development of more effective treatments during the early stages of perinatal brain *** this review,we focus on the molecular mechanisms of hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy,specifically on the importance of apoptosis-inducing *** relevance of apoptosis-inducing factor is based not only because it participates in the caspase-independent apoptotic pathway but also because it plays a crucial role in mitochondrial energetic functionality,especially with regard to the maintenance of electron transport during oxidative phosphorylation and in oxidative stress,acting as a free radical *** also discuss all the different apoptosis-inducing factor isoforms discovered,focusing especially on apoptosis-inducing factor 2,which is only expressed in the brain and the functions of which are starting now to be ***,we summarized the interaction of apoptosis-inducing factor with several proteins that are crucial for both apoptosis-inducing factor functions(prosurvival and pro-apoptotic)and that are highly important in order to develop promising therapeutic targets for improving outcomes after perinatal brain injury.

We present in this paper a new mathematical model for the scheduling of angiogenic inhibitors in combination with a chemotherapeutic agent for a tumor. Our model takes into account the process of angiogenesis and the quality of the vasculature discriminating between stable blood vessels and unstable blood vessels. We characterize theoretically the optimal controls on drug distribution to minimize the number of cancer cells at the end of the treatment in a free horizon time problem with restrictions on the total amount of drug doses. Finally, we solve the optimal control problem by using numerical simulations, obtaining as a result that, despite the number of the tumor cells decrease with anti-angiogenic treatment, the best results are reached at the end of the chemotherapy treatment.

Emerging technologies such as electric vehicles,solid-state transformers,and DC transformers are implemented using the closed-loop bi-directional dual-active-bridge(DAB)*** this context,it is necessary to have average models that provide an efficient way of tuning the proportional integral(PI)compensator parameters for large-and small-signal *** present a novel small-signal model(SSM)for DAB converter with a single closed-loop PI controller and the total elimination of reactive current(IQ=0).The method applies a modulation technique for IQ=0 and introduces a composite function in the controller while reducing the original nonlinear switching model,which allows to decrease the order of the transfer function and analyze the closed-loop *** proposed SSM is analyzed using different response time,load,and DC voltage *** simulation and experimental results demonstrate the ease of implementation and effectiveness of the proposed model with respect to other SSM techniques.

Scoring in a basketball game is a highly dynamic, non-linear process. NBA teams try to be more and more competitive each season. For instance, they incorporate into their rosters the best players in the world. This and other mechanisms concur to make the scoring process in NBA games exciting and rarely predictable. This paper is to study the behavior of timing and scoring in basketball gaines. The authors analyze all the games in five NBA regular seasons （2005-06, 2006-07, 2007-08, 2008-09, 2009-10）, for a total of 6150 games. Scoring does not behave uniformly; therefore, the authors also analyze the distributions of the differences in points in the basketball games. To further analyze the behavior of the tail of the distribution, the authors also carry out a semilog-plot and a log-log plot to verify whether this trend approaches a Poisson distribution or a PL. This paper reveals different areas of behavior related to the score, with specific instances of time that could be considered tipping points of the game. The presence of these critical points suggests that there are phase transitions where the dynamic scoring of the games varies significantly.
