With the rapid socioeconomic development, improvements in living standards, and changes in lifestyle, adult diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), hypertension, obesity, and so on, are increasing dramatically over the past decades, which have caused a huge economic and health burden at both population and individual levels in China.[1] The increased burden of adult diseases has become the main public health issue, and prevention of adult diseases in China has become a formidable task during recent years. In 2016, China has put forward the concept of whole life-course health and efforts have been made on shifting the focus from treating diseases to prevention. In view of the poor effects of prevention of diseases in adulthood, it is suggested that prevention and management of adult diseases should be extended to early life, which is the critical window for physiological programming and has profound and enduring effects on the whole life-cycle health.[2,3,4] In 2018, an article named "To Prevent Cardiovascular Disease, Pay Attention to Pregnancy Complications" published in Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) also illustrated that pregnancy is a window to future health[5].

The first palladium/chiral nitrogenous ligand-catalyzed enantioselective addition of aryl boronic acids to various maleimides was reported.This protocol features mild conditions combined with good functional group tolerance.The resultant 3-arylsuccinimides were shown to be novel chiral antifungal leads and inspired the discovery of novel ligands to address the challenging issues of this transformation.

The mesopelagic communities are important for food web and carbon pump in ocean,but the large-scale studies of them are still limited until now because of the difficulties on sampling and analyzing of mesopelagic organisms.Mesopelagic organisms,especially micronekton,can form acoustic deep scattering layers(DSLs)and DSLs are widely observed.To explore the spatial patterns of DSLs and their possible influencing factors,the DSLs during daytime(10:00–14:00)were investigated in the subtropical northwestern Pacific Ocean(13°–23.5°N,153°–163°E)using a shipboard acoustic Doppler current profiler at 38 kHz.The study area was divided into three parts using k-means cluster analysis:the northern part(NP,22°–24°N),the central part(CP,17°–22°N),and the southern part(SP,12°–17°N).The characteristics of DSLs varied widely with latitudinal gradient.Deepest core DSLs(523.5 m±17.4 m),largest nautical area scattering coefficient(NASC)(130.8 m^(2)/n mile^(2)±41.0 m^(2)/n mile^(2)),and most concentrated DSLs(mesopelagic organisms gathering level,6.7%±0.7%)were observed in NP.The proportion of migration was also stronger in NP(39.7%)than those in other parts(18.6%in CP and 21.5%in SP)for mesopelagic organisms.The latitudinal variation of DSLs was probably caused by changes in oxygen concentration and light intensity of mesopelagic zones.A positive relationship between NASC and primary productivity was identified.A four-months lag was seemed to exist.This study provides the first basin-scale baselines information of mesopelagic communities in the northwest Pacific with acoustic approach.Further researches are suggested to gain understandings of seasonal and annual variations of DSLs in the region.

The stomatal pores of plant leaves control gas exchange with the environment.Stomatal development is prevised regulated by both internal genetic programs and environmental cues.Among various environmental factors,light regulation of stomata formation has been extensively studied in Arabidopsis.In this review,we summarize recent advances in the genetic control of stomata development and its regulation by light.We also present a comparative analysis of the conserved and diverged stomatal regulatory networks between Arabidopsis and cereal grasses.Lastly,we provide our perspectives on manipulation of the stomata density on plant leaves for the purpose of breeding crops that are better adapted to the adverse environment and high-density planting conditions.

As a functional metallurgical container for molten steel,refining ladle has a great influence on the smelting safety and quality of steel.The online monitoring of the residual thickness for ladle lining was applied to increase the smelting efficiency and safety.It is found that the ladle refractories show obvious discontinuous degradation characteristics through the monitoring data.Moreover,the degradation of low-carbon magnesia–carbon brick at slag line and corundum-based castable at steel bath was calculated according to the established corrosion model and crack propagation model,respectively.The discontinuous degradation mechanism of the ladle refractories is illustrated,which is of great significance to the optimal configuration of the ladle lining refractories.

Activated carbons for electrochemical capacitor electrodes are prepared from soyabean using chemical activation with KOH. The pore size is easily controllable by changing the mass ratio between KOH and carbonized product. The as-prepared materials possess a large specific surface area, unique structure, well- developed hierarchical porosity and plentiful heteroatoms（mainly O and N）. Thus resulted in its high specific capacitance,good rate capacity and cycling stability. Moreover, attributing to worldwide availability, renewable nature and low-cost, activated carbon prepared from soyabean has a good potential in energy conversion and storage devices.
