Electrochemical reduction of CO_(2)(CO_(2)Er) to formate has been a promising route to produce value-added chemicals.Developing low-cost and efficient electrocatalysts with high product selectivity is still a grand challenge.Herein,a novel Ni nanoparticles-anchored CNT coated by mesoporous carbon with yolk-shell structure (CNT/Ni@mC) catalysis was designed for CO_(2)Er.Ni nanoparticles were confined in the cavity between CNT and mesoporous carbon shell and the confined space can be controlled by tuning the amount of silica precursor.The mesoporous carbon shell and confined space are beneficial to charge transmission during CO_(2)Er.In contrast to previous studies,the CNT/Ni@mC catalyst presents selectivity toward formate rather than CO.Electrochemical in situ attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy measurements indicate the presence of a COO* intermediate that converts to formate under CO_(2)Er conditions.The well-defined structural feature of the confined space of the Ni-based catalyst for selective CO_(2)Er to formate may facilitate in-depth mechanistic understandings on structural factors that affect CO_(2)Er performance.

A statistical analysis of the initial vortexes leading to tropical cyclone(TC)formation in the western North Pacific(WNP)is conducted with the ECMWF ErA5 reanalysis data from 1999 to 2018.It is found that TCs in the WNP basically originate from three kinds of vortexes,i.e.,a mid-level vortex(MV),a low-level vortex(LV),and a relatively deep vortex with notable vorticity in both the lower and middle troposphere(DV).Among them,LV and DV account for 47.9%and 24.2%of tropical cyclogenesis events,respectively,while only 27.9%of TCs develop from the MV,which is much lower than that which occurs in the North Atlantic and eastern Pacific.Such a difference might be ascribed to the active monsoon systems in the WNP all year round.Due to the nearly upright structure of mid-level convergence in the early pre-genesis stage,TC genesis efficiency is the highest in DV.Compared with MV,LV generally takes a shorter time to intensify to a TC because of the higher humidity and the stronger low-level cyclonic circulation,which is related to air-sea interaction and boundary-layer convergence.Further examination of the relationship between tropical cyclogenesis and large-scale flow patterns indicate that the TC genesis events associated with LV are primarily related to the monsoon shear line,monsoon confluence region,and monsoon gyre,while those associated with MV are frequently connected with easterly waves and wave energy dispersion of preexisting TC.Compared with other flow patterns,tropical cyclones usually form and intensify faster in the monsoon confluence region.

Dear Editor,Breast cancer(BC)is the most commonly diagnosed cancer and the fifth cause of cancer-related death worldwide[1].Despite the advances in BC targeted therapies,cytotoxic chemotherapy is still widely used[2].However,around 20%-30%of BC patients develop metastasis after treatment as a consequence of drug resistance[3].In this context,microrNAs have emerged as potential therapeutic targets to overcome therapy resistance[4].Therefore,we aimed to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying resistance to doxorubicin,one of the most effective chemotherapeutic agents used in BC.Methods are detailed in Supplementary Materials.

Cerebral amyloid angiopathy-related inflammation (CAA-rI) is a rare but increasingly recognized subtype of CAA. CAA-rI consists of two subtypes: inflammatory cerebral amyloid angiopathy and amyloid β (Aβ)-related angiitis. Acute or subacute onset of cognitive decline or behavioral changes is the most common symptom of CAA-rI. rapid progressive dementia, headache, seizures, or focal neurological deficits, with patchy or confluent hyperintensity on T2 or fluid-attenuated inversion recovery sequences and evidence of strictly lobar microbleeds or cortical superficial siderosis on susceptibility-weighted imaging imply CAA-rI. The gold standard for diagnosis is autopsy or brain biopsy. However, biopsy is invasive;consequently, most clinically diagnosed cases have been based on clinical and radiological data. Other diagnostic indexes include the apolipoprotein E ε4 allele, Aβ and anti-Aβ antibodies in cerebral spinal fluid and amyloid positron emission tomography. Many diseases with similar clinical manifestations should be carefully ruled out. Immunosuppressive therapy is effective both during initial presentation and in relapses. The use of glucocorticoids and immunosuppressants improves prognosis. This article reviews the pathology and pathogenesis, clinical and imaging manifestations, diagnostic criteria, treatment, and prognosis of CAA-rI, and highlights unsolved problems in the existing research.

The evolution and maintenance of color clines is a classic topic of research in evolutionary ecology.However,studies analyzing the temporal dynamics of such clines are much less frequent,due to the difficulty of obtaining reliable data about past color distributions along environmen-tal gradients.In this article,we describe a case of decades-long temporal stability and directional change in a color cline of the marine snail Littorina saxatilis along the coastal inlet of the ria de Vigo(NW Spain).L.saxatilis from this area shows a clear color cline with 3 distinct areas from the innermost to the more wave-exposed localities of the ria:the inner,protected localities show an abundance of fawn-like individuals;the intermediate localities show a high diversity of colors;and the outer,wave-exposed localities show populations with a high frequency of a black and lineated morph.We compare data from the 1970s and 2022 in the same localities,showing that the cline has kept relatively stable for at least over half a century,except for some directional change and local variability in the frequency of certain morphs.Multiple regression analyses and biodiversity measures are presented to provide clues into the selective pressures that might be involved in the maintenance of this color cline.Future research avenues to properly test the explanatory power of these selective agents as well as the possible origins of the cline are discussed.

We perform a comparison in terms of accuracy and CPU time between second order BDF semi-Lagrangian and Lagrange-Galerkin schemes in combination with high order finite element method.The numerical results show that for polynomials of degree 2 semi-Lagrangian schemes are faster than Lagrange-Galerkin schemes for the same number of degrees of freedom,however,for the same level of accuracy both methods are about the same in terms of CPU time.For polynomials of degree larger than 2,Lagrange-Galerkin schemes behave better than semi-Lagrangian schemes in terms of both accuracy and CPU time;specially,for polynomials of degree 8 or larger.Also,we have performed tests on the parallelization of these schemes and the speedup obtained is quasi-optimal even with more than 100 processors.

Natural ventilation(NV)is a key passive strategy to design energy-efficient buildings and improve indoor air quality.Therefore,accurate modeling of the NV effects is a basic requirement to include this technique during the building design process.However,there is an important lack of wind pressure coefficients(CP)data,essential input parameters for NV models.Besides this,there are no simple but still reliable tools to predict CP data on buildings with arbitrary shapes and surrounding conditions,which means a significant limitation to NV modeling in real applications.For this reason,the present contribution proposes a novel cloud-based platform to predict wind pressure coefficients on buildings.The platform comprises a set of tools for performing fully unattended computational fluid dynamics(CFD)simulations of the atmospheric boundary layer and getting reliable CP data for actual scenarios.CFD-expert decisions throughout the entire workflow are implemented to automatize the generation of the computational domain,the meshing procedure the solution stage,and the post-processing of the results.To evaluate the performance of the platform,an exhaustive validation against wind tunnel experimental data is carried out for a wide range of case studies.These include buildings with openings,balconies,irregular floor-plans,and surrounding urban environments.The C_(P) results are in close agreement with experimental data,reducing 60%-77% the prediction error on the openings regarding the EnergyPlus software.The platform introduced shows being a reliable and practical C_(P) data source for NV modeling in real building design scenarios.

Apparent biases in decision making by animals, including humans, seem to present an evolutionary puzzle, since one would expect decisions based on biased (unrealistic) information to be suboptimal. Although cognitive biases are hard to diag- nose in real animals (Marshall et al., 2013b), we investigate Trivers' proposal that individuals should self-deceive first in order to better deceive others (Trivers, 2011). Although this proposal has been scrutinized extensively (Bandura et al., 2011) it has not been formally modelled. We present the first model designed to investigate Trivers' proposal. We introduce an extension to a re- cent model of the evolution of self-deception (Johnson and Fowler, 2011). In the extended model individuals make decisions by taking directly into account the benefits and costs of each outcome and by choosing the course of action that can be estimated as the best with the information available. It is shown that in certain circumstances self-deceiving decision-makers are the most evolutionarily successful, even when there is no deception between these. In a further extension of this model individuals addi- tionally exhibit deception biases and Trivers' premise (that effective deception is less physiologically costly with the aid of self-deception) is incorporated. It is shown that under Trivers' hypothesis natural selection favors individuals that self-deceive as they deceive others .

The formation of cocrystallization in two various conjugated components may endow the newly formed conjugated cocrystals with multiple functionalities and improved charge transport properties.However,compared to conjugated small molecules,this strategy is rather limitedly realized in conjugated polymers.Herein,a simple meniscus-assisted solution printing(MASP)strategy is utilized to achieve the cocrystallization in the blends of two conjugated polymers,i.e.,poly(3-hexylthiophene)(P3HT)and poly(3-octylthiophene)(P3OT),and the cocrystalline structures are correlated closely to their charge mobilities.The P3HT/P3OT blends phase separate and crystallize individually in their drop-cast thin films.When subjecting the P3HT/P3OT blended solution to MASP,the confined solvent evaporation between two nearly parallel plates triggers them to cocrystallize progressively when accelerating the moving lower plate.The cocrystallization kinetics and the changes in P3HT/P3OT molecular structures are elucidated.Finally,these different crystalline structures of P3HT/P3OT blends are applied in organic fieldeffect transistors,imparting the cocrystallization-enhanced charge transport than respective P3HT and P3OT crystal domains.Such MASP method can be extended to craft cocrystals of other conjugated polymer blends for their diverse optoelectronic applications.

Asymmetric cell division(ACD) is a fundamental process that generates new cell types during development in eukaryotic species.In plant development,post-embryonic organogenesis driven by ACD is universal and more important than in animals,in which organ pattern is preset during embryogenesis.Thus,plant development provides a powerful system to study molecular mechanisms underlying ACD.During the past decade,tremendous progress has been made in our understanding of the key components and mechanisms involved in this important process in plants.Here,we present an overview of how ACD is determined and regulated in multiple biological processes in plant development and compare their conservation and specificity among different model cell systems.We also summarize the molecular roles and mechanisms of the phytohormones in the regulation of plant ACD.Finally,we conclude with the overarching paradigms and principles that govern plant ACD and consider how new technologies can be exploited to fill the knowledge gaps and make new advances in the field.
