Quality assessment of Continuous Operating Reference Stations(CORS)-GPS stations in Mexico

The present analysis provided the quality assessment of 65 Continuous Operating Reference Stations(CORS) situated in and around Mexico using the data of about ten years(January 2010 to January 2020).To accomplish the assessment,we considered 4 quality indexes for performing the quality check,incluing the multipath effect on l1 and l2 bands,signal-to-noise ratio in both bands,cycle slips,and integrity.Meanwhile,a new reference parameter named regio nal values for Mexico(RVM) was calculated for the stations situated in Mexico.Additionally,an exhaustive analysis of the quality indicators in the worst and best cases was performed.The signal degradation was proved by a long-term time series and cru stal defo rmation analysis in GAMIT/GlOBK platform.The results showed a stro ng correlation between integrity,cycle slips and daily observations time,and the multipath effect is strong in the case of outdated systems.The study indicates that the estimated quality indexes and values could be the basis for establishing new CORS in Mexico,and the errors corrections which cannot be mitigated in the postprocessing stage would greatly help utilize the data for different scientific applications.The results were supported by deformation analysis in part of Baja California Peninsula in Mexico indicating northern and eastern velocity vector of -3.08±0.02 mm/yr,-7.85±0.02 mm/yr and-0.07±0.03 mm/yr,-9.33±0.02 mm/yr respectively at MPR1 and INEG stations.

Several therapies have shown obvious effects on structural conservation contributing to motor functional recovery after spinal cord injury(SCI).Nevertheless, neither strategy has achieved a convincing effect.We purposed a combined therapy of immunomodulatory peptides that individually have shown significant effects on motor functional recovery in rats with SCI.The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of the combined therapy of monocyte locomotion inhibitor factor(MlIF), A91 peptide, and glutathione monoethyl ester(GSH-MEE) on chronic-stage spinal cord injury.Female Sprague-Dawley rats underwent a laminectomy of the T9 vertebra and a moderate contusion.Six groups were included: sham, PBS, MlIF + A91, MlIF + GSH-MEE, A91 + GSH-MEE, and MlIF + A91 + GSH-MEE.Two months after injury, motor functional recovery was evaluated using the open field test.Parenchyma and white matter preservation was evaluated using hematoxylin & eosin staining and luxol Fast Blue staining, respectively.The number of motoneurons in the ventral horn and the number of axonal fibers were determined using hematoxylin & eosin staining and immunohistochemistry, respectively.Collagen deposition was evaluated using Masson's trichrome staining.The combined therapy of MlIF, A91, and GSH-MEE greatly contributed to motor functional recovery and preservation of the medullary parenchyma, white matter, motoneurons, and axonal fibres, and reduced the deposition of collagen in the lesioned area.The combined therapy of MlIF, A91, and GSH-MEE preserved spinal cord tissue integrity and promoted motor functional recovery of rats after SCI.This study was approved by the National Commission for Scientific Research on Bioethics and Biosafety of the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social under registration number R-2015-785-116(approval date November 30, 2015) and R-2017-3603-33(approval date June 5, 2017).

Diet variability of snappers(Teleostei:lutjanidae)in a bay-to-reef ecosystem of the Mexican Caribbean

Fishes use environmental resources differently.Snapper ontogenic movements among coastal habitats lead to diverse diets.We investigated the diets of seven snapper species(lutjanus apodus,l.analis,l.griseus,l.jocu,l.mahogoni,l.synagris,and Ocyurus chrysurus)in three interconnected coastal environments in the western Caribbean:Río Huach channel,Chetumal/Corozal bay,and the adjacent Xcalak reef lagoon.These three encompass all habitats used by the seven species in the study area.Snapper diets were mostly composed of fish and crustaceans,but dominance of either group varied among the studied habitats;for example,fish were the main prey for l.apodus from the reef lagoon zone,but second in the bay.Snappers are piscivorous-invertivorous mesopredators;the species that relied the most on fishes were l.griseus and l.jocu,whereas O.chrysurus preferred crustaceans.Stomach content results revealed a high degree of dietary overlap among species.Our findings suggested a tradeoff in relative weight between fish and crustaceans as the main food source of snappers at these connected areas,supporting the hypothesis of niche segregation.Our results can be used as a baseline to further our understanding of the ecology and differences in resource use by snapper species in an area undergoing important anthropogenic changes.

OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the systemic action of electroacupuncture and laserpuncture in the repair of excisional cutaneous injuries on the back of adult female Wistar rats.METHODS:Ninety animals were divided into three experimental groups:C-control;E-treated with electroacupuncture[acupoints:Feishu(Bl13),Geshu(Bl17),Zusanli(ST36)];l-treated with laserpuncture(same acupoints)and euthanized on the 7 th,14 th and 21 st days for tissue removal and preparation for histomorphometric and biochemical(dosages,zymography and Western blotting)analysis.RESUlTS:The number of fibroblasts in the E and l groups presented higher values than the C on the14 th and 21 st days.The number of granulocytes was lower than C on the 21 st day in groups E and l.The total number of newly formed vessels increased on the 21 st day and was higher in both treatments when compared to C.The birefringent collagen fibers detected on the 21 st day was lower in groups E and l than group C.The glycosaminoglycans and hydroxyproline amount was similar among groups throughout the experimental period.The active isoform of matrixmetallo proteinase(MMP)-2 and the latent isoform of MMP-9 did not show any differences among all groups and experimental periods.The amount of collagenⅠpresented higher values in the l group on the 14 th day and in the E and l groups on the 21 st day.For typeⅢcollagen,groups E and l presented values lower than C in all experimental periods.The amount of transforming growth factor-β1 in the E and l groups showed higher amounts than C on the 7 th day and lower on the 14 th and 21 st days.For vascular endothelial growth factor,E and l groups presented similar and lower values than C on the 7 th and 14 th days,respectively,and similar on the 21 st day.CONClUSION:The therapies evaluated in this article stimulated fibroblast proliferation,neoangiogenesis and altered the reorganization of collagen fibers in the repair of excisional injuries in female adult rats.

Perceptions of fishers to sea turtle bycatch,illegal capture and consumption in the San Ignacio-Navachiste-Macapule lagoon complex,Gulf of California,Mexico

In this study, 10% of all registered fishermen in the coastal towns of Navachiste in Sinaloa, in northwestern Mexico, answered a survey designed to collect data on their perceptions of the following topics: the impact of turtle meat consumption;human health;bycatch;illegal turtle fishing;the illegal sea turtle market;the lo-cal economy;pollution;environmental education;the success of protective legislation;and sea turtle-based ec-otourism. Perceptions were analyzed using the fuzzy logic method through classification into 5 fuzzy member-ship sets: Vl, very low;l, low;M, moderate;H, high;VH, very high. The 9 topics generated decision areas upon applying fuzzy inference that revealed the membership level of the answers in each fuzzy set. The eco-nomic potential of sea turtle-based ecotourism and the economic profitability of the illegal turtle meat market were perceived as Vl. Conservation legislation was perceived as H, although inefficiently applied due to cor-ruption. Ecotourism and impacts on sea turtles were perceived as Vl, because they were deemed unprofitable activities at the individual and community levels. Environmental education was perceived as l, because it cen-ters on nesting, hatching and releasing turtles and is directed at elementary and middle-school students. While fishers perceive a serious negative impact of fishing activities on sea turtles in the San Ignacio-Navachiste- Macapule area, they do not see themselves individually as part of the problem. Achieving sea turtle conserva-tion in this region requires: suitable ecotourism infrastructure, government investments in promotion, and stud-ies to estimate the minimum number of tourists needed to assure profitability.
