Illness belief. about hypertension among non-patients and healthy relatives of.patients

Objectives: Personal belief. about illnesses have received increasing interest because these cognitions help to explain and predict preventive and therapeutic coping ef.orts, adjustment to a disease and health outcomes. We sought to explore and compare non-specialised illness representations of.hypertension among adults never suf.ering f.om hypertension who had and had not lived with hypertensive patients. Design: Hypertension representations were explored in a community-based, convenient sample of.normotensive Spanish adults of.both genders f.om dif.erent educational backgrounds and with dif.erent f.mily experience with this illness. Method: An adapted Illness Perception Questionnaire-R was used to assess such perceptions among healthy people in nine dimensions: Identity, Time-line, Consequences, Personal Control, Treatment Control, Illness Coherence, Evolution, Emotional Representations and Causes. Results: The participants’ belief. mixed accurate and f.lk knowledge, while gender, age and education level had little impact, f.mily experience (having or not having a relative with hypertension) strongly determined the content of.hypertension representations. Participants with f.mily experience held signif.cantly stronger belief. of.controllability of.the disease, both by patients and treatments, considered the disease as less stable and reported a lower emotional impact when thinking on suf.ering f.om hypertension. f.mily experience was the only signif.cant predictor of.illness cognitions. Conclusions: This study allowed us to know the perceptions of.hypertension among non-patients and healthy relatives of.patients. Our f.ndings are usef.l in designing interventions aimed at hypertension prevention, particularly considering f.mily experience with the disease.

Topology-Based Recommendation of.Users in Micro-Blogging Communities

Nowadays, more and more users share real-time news and inf.rmation in micro-blogging communities such as Twitter, Tumblr or Plurk. In these sites, inf.rmation is shared via a f.llowers/f.llowees social network structure in which a f.llower will receive all the micro-blogs f.om the users he/she f.llows, named f.llowees. With the increasing number of.registered users in this kind of.sites, f.nding relevant and reliable sources of.inf.rmation becomes essential. The reduced number of.characters present in micro-posts along with the inf.rmal language commonly used in these sites make it dif.icult to apply standard content-based approaches to the problem of.user recommendation. To address this problem, we propose an algorithm f.r recommending relevant users that explores the topology of.the network considering dif.erent f.ctors that allow us to identif. users that can be considered good inf.rmation sources. Experimental evaluation conducted with a group of.users is reported, demonstrating the potential of.the approach.

In the era of.inf.rmation technology and big data,the extraction,commodif.cation,and control of.personal inf.rmation is redef.ning how people relate and ***,the challenges that big data collection and analytics can introduce in trust-based societies,like those of.Scandinavia,are not yet *** instance,in the energy sector,data generated through smart appliances,like smart metering devices,can have collateral implications f.r the *** this paper,we present a systematic review of.scientif.c articles indexed in Scopus to identif. possible relationships between the practices of.collecting,processing,analysing,and using people’s data and people’s responses to such *** contextualise this by looking at research about Scandinavian societies and link this to the academic literature on big data and trust,big data and smart meters,data ethics and the energy sector,surveillance capitalism,and subsequently perf.rming a ref.exive thematic *** broadly situate our understanding of.culture in this context on the interactions between cognitive norms,material culture,and energy *** analysis identif.ed a number of.articles discussing problems and solutions to do with the practices of.surveillance *** also f.und that research addresses these challenges in dif.erent *** some research f.cuses on technological amendments to address users’privacy protection,only f.w examine the f.ndamental ethical questions that discuss how big data practices may change societies and increase their *** literature suggests that even in highly trusting societies,like the ones f.und in Scandinavian countries,trust can be undermined and weakened.

Dirac Quantum Beats in Extreme Relativistic Dif.raction in Time

We solve the relativistic Dirac equation f.r the shutter problem. We prove that, at intermediate relativistic energies, the probability density oscillates in time in a similar way to the optical f.esnel oscillations in a straight edge. However, f.r extreme-relativistic beams, the f.esnel oscillations turn into quantum damped beats.

Transient Quantum Beat Oscillations in Extreme-Relativistic Dif.raction in Time

In the solution of.the Klein-Gordon equation f.r the shutter problem, we prove that, at internuclear distances, a relativistic beam of.Pi-mesons has a probability density which oscillates in time in a similar way to the spatial dependence in optical f.esnel dif.raction f.om a straight edge. However, f.r an extreme-relativistic beam, the f.esnel oscillations turn into quantum damped beat oscillations. We prove that quantum beat oscillations are the consequence, at extreme-relativistic velocities, of.the interf.rence between the initial incident wave f.nction, and the Green’s f.nction in the relativistic shutter problem. This is a pure quantum relativistic phenomenon.

Background:Nutrient cycling in tropical f.rests has a large importance f.r primary productivity,and decomposition of.litterf.ll is a major process inf.uencing nutrient balance in f.rest *** large-scale f.ctors strongly inf.uence decomposition patterns,small-scale f.ctors can have major inf.uences,especially in old-growth f.rests that have high structural complexity and strong plant-soil *** we evaluated the ef.ects of.f.rest structure and soil properties on decomposition rates and stabilization of.soil organic matter using the Tea Bag Index(TBI)in an old-growth riparian f.rest in southeastern *** data sets were described separately using Principal Components Analysis(PCA).The main axes f.r each analysis,together with soil physical properties(clay content and soil moisture),were used to construct structural equations models that evaluated the dif.erent parameters of.the TBI,decomposition rates and stabilization *** best model was selected using Akaike’s ***:f.rest structure and soil physical and chemical properties presented large variation among plots within the studied *** content was strongly correlated with soil moisture and the f.rst PCA axis of.soil chemical properties,and model selection indicated that clay content was a better predictor than this *** rates presented a large variation among tea bags(0.009 and 0.098 g·g^(−1)·d−1)and were positively related with f.rest structure,as characterized by higher basal area,tree density and larger *** stabilization f.ctor varied between 0.211–0.426 and was related to f.rest stratif.cation and soil clay ***:The old-growth f.rest studied presented high heterogeneity in both f.rest structure and soil properties at small spatial scales,that inf.uenced decomposition processes and probably contributed to small-scale variation in nutrient *** rates were only inf.uenced by f.rest structure,whereas the stabilizat
