Aging of polyaluminum chloride(PACl) coagulants could significantly influence hydrolyzed Al speciation ruling coagulation *** goal of this study was to investigate Al species transformation through long-term aging and its impact on coagulation *** kinds of commercial coagulants(PACl-1 and PACl-2) were stored for in-situ aging tests in six months to evaluate Al species variation with time and the performance of coagulation with natural turbid *** results showed that CaSO4 precipitation easily occur in a commercial PACl coagulant with time as it contains SO4^2- and Ca^2+.It also activates the precipitation of gibbsite Al(OH)3 in PACl with *** 180 days aging,both monomeric Al(Ala) and polymeric Al(Alb) substantially transform into colloidal Al(Alc) and precipitated for both PACl *** low turbidity(10 NTU),PACl-1 has a superior turbidity reduction rate than PACl-2,while PACl-2 performs a little better turbidity re duction at high turbidity(1000 NTU) regardless of aging *** aging time,an obvious decrease in turbidity reduction for PACl-1 coagulation is observed at low turbidity of 10 NTU,while the improvement in turbidity reduction for PACl-2 coagulation by enhanced sweep flocculation can be achieved as Alb mostly transform into Alc after 150 days *** is concluded that dominant in-situ formed Alc after a long time hydrolysis can improve PACl coagulation efficiency in turbidity reduction by enhanced sweep flocculation,especially for low turbidity water,but the increase in preformed Alc in PACl would worsen particle destabilization after aging.

The cyanobacteria-bloom in raw waters frequently causes an unpredictable chemical dosing of preoxidation and coagulation for an effective removal of algal cells in water treatment plants. This study investigated the effects of preoxidation with NaOCl and ClO_2 on the coagulation-flotation effectiveness in the removal of two commonly blooming cyanobacteria species, Microcystis aeruginosa（MA） and Cylindrospermopsis raciborskii（CR）, and their corresponding trihalomethane（THM） formation potential. The results showed that dual dosing with NaOCl plus ClO_2 was more effective in enhancing the deformation of cyanobacterial cells compared to single dosing with Na OCl, especially for CR-rich *** preoxidation approaches for CR-rich water effectively reduced the CR cell count with less remained dissolved organic carbon（DOC）, which benefited subsequent coagulation–flotation. However, preoxidation led to an adverse release of algogenic organic matter（AOM） in the case of MA-rich water. The release of AOM resulted in a poor removal in MA cells and a large amount of THM formation after oxidation-assisted coagulation-flotation process. The reduction in THM formation potential of CR-rich waters is responsible for effective algae and DOC removal by alum coagulation. It is concluded that the species-specific characteristic of cyanobacteria and their AOM released during chlorination significantly influences the performance of coagulation–flotation for AOM removal and corresponding THM formation.

Carbon emission is inevitable,and changes with energy consumption and economic development,presents policy options toward sustainable development ***,there is little assurance from policymakers in committing to climate change pledges:taking the Middle-East and North African(MENA)region as a specific case with using 2019 as a cut-off *** conducted an interim assessment of the Paris Agreement to ascertain whether climate actions are in tandem with emissions reduction *** use of difference-in-difference technique as a quasiexperiment supported by fixed-effects and placebo treatment models,the results point to evidence of less than 1%effective CO_(2) emissions reduction as of 2019 compared to the 2015 *** current carbon emissions reduction commitment level is far-reaching contrary to the Nationally Determined Contributions(NDCs)pledged(16.43%on average by 2030 compared to the 2015 level).The analysis suggests that achieving NDCs commitments are currently major burden on policymakers since the economic development is highly linked with nonrenewable energy ***,a more comprehensive framework when accounting for all available renewable and clean energy projects shows reduction levels in the range of 30%-40%from 2020 to *** results suggest that the Paris Agreement in MENA countries may be more effective from 2020,thus underscore the importance of capturing ongoing projects(involving renewable and clean energy technologies)into interim policy *** shared implication is that greater efforts are demanded from the region and at country levels to further decrease emissions through the use of negative emissions technologies particularly in the electricity generation sector.

A GaAs MESFET three-terminal varactor diode fabricated on a semi-insulating substrate can be used for the MMIC active voltage-controlled filter because it is compatible with the standard GaAs MMIC process. The high capacitance ratio needed for wideband tuning filter requires the three-terminal varactor diode (TTVD) to be biased up pinch-off voltage or positive bias. Therefore a variable-capacitance model is applied to analyzing C-V characteristics of this TTVD. The earlier capacitance model for GaAs MESFET did not consider the free carrier move in active region which can cause varying the C-V characteristic, but only depletion layer model approximation. The new model described here takes into account the free carrier move for contributing to gate capacitance. The model analytical results agree well with experiment.

Some research on climate change has been the basis of climate change denialism(here-after,CCD is used to refer to denial,denialism,and deniers).There is formative knowledge about the role of political propaganda in climate policies and resulting *** to the understanding of political ideology and the extent of CCD,we adopt econometric techniques to study the impact of the United States of America's withdrawal from the Paris *** results show that ideological political propaganda haspsychological and philosophical consequences that impact climate change *** addition,we find that the effect of a state's economic growth on climate change is mediated by *** particular,low-income capitalist states have a higher propensity to become CCDs because they are more likely to engage in economic expansion even at the expense of environmental *** climate change policies depend on high-income nations and industries'willingness to adopt economic policies to achieve sus-tainable future ***,this study fills the literature gap on the relationship between political ideology and climate *** findings show that CCD significantlyinfluences voting patterns and socioeconomic *** impedes states from achieving net-zero emissions and carbon neutrality and it is used as a political *** to these findings,relevant policy suggestions are offered.

The Conference of the Parties(COP26 and 27)placed significant emphasis on climate financing policies with the objective of achieving net zero emissions and carbon ***,studies on the implementation of this policy proposition are *** address this gap in the literature,this study employs machine learning techniques,specifically natural language processing(NLP),to examine 77 climate bond(CB)policies from 32 countries within the context of climate *** findings indicate that“sustainability”and“carbon emissions control”are the most outlined policy objectives in these CB ***,the study highlights that most CB funds are invested toward energy projects(i.e.,renewable,clean,and efficient initiatives).However,there has been a notable shift in the allocation of CB funds from climate-friendly energy projects to the construction sector between 2015 and *** shift raises concerns about the potential redirection of funds from climate-focused investments to the real estate industry,potentially leading to the greenwashing of climate ***,policy sentiment analysis revealed that a minority of policies hold skeptical views on climate change,which may negatively influence climate ***,the findings highlight that the effective implementation of CB policies depends on policy goals,objectives,and ***,this study contributes to the literature by employing NLP techniques to understand policy sentiments in climate financing.

Wandering is a significant indicator in the clinical diagnosis of dementia and other related diseases for *** monitoring of long-term continuous movement in indoor setting for detection of wandering movement is challenging because most elders are prone to forget to carry or wear sensors that collect motion information daily due to their declining ***-Fi as an emerging sensing modality has been widely used to monitor human indoor movement in a noninvasive *** order to continuously monitor individuals’indoor motion and reliably identify wandering movement in a non-invasive manner,in this work,we develop a LSTMbased deep classification method that is able to differentiate the wandering-causedWi-Fi signal change from the ***,we first use the off-the-shelf Wi-Fi devices to capture a resident’s indoor motion information,enabling to collect a group ofWi-Fi signal streams,which will be split into variablesize ***,the deep network LSTM is adopted to develop wandering detection method that is able to classify every variable-size segment of Wi-Fi signals into categories according to the well-known wandering spatiotemporal ***,experimental evaluation conducted on a group of realworld Wi-Fi signal streams shows that our proposed LSTMbased detection method is workable and effective to identify indoor wandering behavior,obtaining an average value of 0.9286,0.9618,0.9634 and 0.9619 for accuracy,precision,recall and F-1 score,respectively.

The poor gas selectivity problem has been a long-standing issue for miniaturized chemical-resistor gas *** electronic nose(e-nose)was proposed in the 1980s to tackle the selectivity issue,but it required top-down chemical functionalization processes to deposit multiple functional ***,we report a novel gas-sensing scheme using a single graphene field-effect transistor(GFET)and machine learning to realize gas selectivity under particular conditions by combining the unique properties of the GFET and e-nose *** of using multiple functional materials,the gas-sensing conductivity profiles of a GFET are recorded and decoupled into four distinctive physical properties and projected onto a feature space as 4D output vectors and classified to differentiated target gases by using machine-learning *** single-GFET approach coupled with trained pattern recognition algorithms was able to classify water,methanol,and ethanol vapors with high accuracy quantitatively when they were tested ***,the gas-sensing patterns of methanol were qualitatively distinguished from those of water vapor in a binary mixture condition,suggesting that the proposed scheme is capable of differentiating a gas from the realistic scenario of an ambient environment with background *** such,this work offers a new class of gas-sensing schemes using a single GFET without multiple functional materials toward miniaturized e-noses.
