Redistribution of Soil Organic Carbon Triggered by Erosion at Field Scale Under Subhumid Climate,Hungary

Soil organic carbon(SOC) has primary importance in terms of soil physics, soil fertility and even of climate change control. One hundred soil samples were taken from an intensively cultivated Cambisol to quantify SOC redistribution triggered by soil erosion under a subhumid climate, by the simultaneous application of diffuse reflectance(240–1 900 nm) and traditional physico-chemical *** representative sample points were collected from the solum along the slopes at the depth of 20–300 cm with a mean SOC content of 12 g kg^(-1). Hierarchical cluster analyses were performed based on the determined SOC results. The spatial pattern of the groups created were similar, and even though the classifications were not the same, diffuse reflectance had proven to be a suitable method for soil/sediment classification even within a given arable field. Both organic and inorganic carbon distributions were found to be a proper tool for estimations of past soil erosion processes. The SOC enrichment was found on two sedimentary spots with different geomorphological positions. Soil organic matter composition also differed between the two spots due to selective deposition of the delivered organic matter. The components with low-molecular-weight reached the bottom of the slope where they could leach into the profile, while the more polymerised organic matter compositions were delivered and deposited even before on a higher segment of the slope in an aggregated form. This spatial difference appeared below the uppermost tilled soil layer as well, referring the lower efficiency of conventional ploughing tillage in soil spatial homogenisation.

Prolonged intestinal mucosal acidosis is associated with multiple organ failure in human acute pancreatitis: Gastric tonometry revisited

AIM： To evaluate whether multiple determinations of intramucosal pH （pHi） in acute pancreatitis （AP） patients could provide additional information of the disease severity during early hospitalization. METHODS： Twenty-one patients suffering from acute pancreatitis were monitored by gastric tonometry in the first 72 h after hospital admission. RESULTS： In the survivor group （n = 15） the initially low phi values returned to normal level （pHi ≥ 7.32） within 48 h （median pHi： d 1： 7.21; d 2： 7.32; d 3： 7.33）. In contrast, pHi values in the non-survivor group n = 6） were persistently either below or in the low normal range （median pHi 7.12; 7.12; 7.07 respectively）, but pHi differences between the two groups reached significance only after 24 h （P 〈 0.01）. Mucosal acidosis detected at any time during the monitored period was associated with the emergence of single or multiple organ dysfunction （P 〈 0.01）. CONCLUSION： Prolonged gastric mucosal acidosis was associated with remote organ dysfunction and failure in Acute Pancreatitis, however, correlation with the fatal outcome became significant only 24 h after admission. Due to its non-invasive nature gastric tonometry may supplement the pro-inflammatory markers to achieve a multi-faceted monitoring of the disease.

Possible link between congenital uterine malformations and epitheliod trophoblastic tumor

Background: Epitheloid trophoblast tumor (ETT) is a tenuous type of gestational trophoblastic disease. Although clinically ETT behave in variable fashion, it is considered as a potentially malignant tumor, fatal malignancy occurs in 10% of the cases. Case and Conclusion: A 41 years old patient, who previously underwent Tompkins operation because of congenital uterine septum was admitted to our clinic due to irregular bleeding. Despite of serum hCG levels under the upper limit of normal, histopathology analysis of D&C obtained endometrial samples confirmed the presence of ETT by immunostainings. Henceforth we performed prompt abdominal hysterectomy and preserved the normal structured ovaries. According to the müllerianosis theory of endometriosis aberrant differentiation or migration could cause spreading of cells throughout the fetal organogenesis of the uterus. These cells in an apoptosis week environment might correlate with the initiation of ETT. As a conclusion we suggest further studies to assess the link between ectopic cells and ETT, to gain a better understanding in the pathomechanism of the tumor.
