In this paper,we propose a doping approach to lower the error floor of Low-Density Parity-check(LDPc)*** doping c.m.onent is a short block code in which the information bits are selected from the coded bits of the dominant trapping sets of the LDPc ***,an algorithm for selecting the information bits of the short code is proposed,and a specific two-stage decoding algorithm is *** results demonstrate that the proposed doped LDPc code achieves up to 2.0 dB gain c.m.ared with the original LDPc code at a frame error rate of 10^(-6)Furthermore,the proposed design can lower the error floor of original LDPc codes.

A Grid middleware for Distributed Java c.m.uting with mPI Binding and Process migration Supports

"Grid" c.m.uting has emerged as an important new research field. With years of efforts, grid researchers have successfully developed grid technologies including security solutions,resource management protocols, information query protocols, and data management services. However, as the ultimate goal of grid c.m.uting is to design an infrastructure which supports dynamic,cross-organizational resource sharing, there is a need of solutions for efficient and transparent task re-scheduling in the *** this research, a new grid middleware is proposed, called G-JavamPI. This middleware adds the parallel c.m.uting capability of Java to the grid with the support of a Grid-enabled message passing interface (mPI) for inter-process c.m.unication between Java processes executed at different grid points. A special feature of the proposed G-JavamPI is the support of Java process migration with post-migration message redirection. With these supports, it is possible to migrate executing Java process from site to site for continuous c.m.utation, if some site is scheduled to be turned down for system reconfiguration. moreover, the proposed G-JavamPI middleware is very portable since it requires no modification of underlying OS, Java virtual machine, and mPI package. Preliminary performance tests have been conducted. The proposed mechanisms have shown good migration efficiency in a simulated grid environment.

A biosynthetic gene cluster for the bioactive fungal sesterterpenoids variecolin(1)and variecolactone(2)was identified in Aspergillus aculeatus ATcc *** production of 1 and 2 was achieved in Aspergillus oryzae by expressing the sesterterpene synthase VrcA and the cytochrome P450 ***,the replac.m.nt of VrcB with homologous P450s from other fungal terpenoid pathways yielded three new variecolin analogues(5-7).Analysis of the c.m.ounds’anticancer activity in vitro and in vivo revealed that although 5 and 1 had c.m.arable activities,5 was associated with significantly reduced toxic side effects in cancer-bearing mice,indicating its potentially broader therapeutic *** study describes the first tests of variecolin and its analogues in animals and demonstrates the utility of synthetic biology for creating molecules with improved biological activities.

Deterministic approaches for noncoherent c.m.unicationswith chaotic carriers

Two problems are proposed. The first one is the noise decontamination of chaotic carriers using a deterministic approach to reconstruct pseudo trajectories, the second is the design of c.m.unications schemes with chaotic carriers. After presenting our deterministic noise decontamination algorithm, conventional chaos shift keying (cSK) c.m.unication system is applied. The difference of Euclidean distance between noisy trajectory and decontaminated trajectory in phase space could be utilized to non-coherently detect the sent symbol simply and effectively. It is shown that this detection method can achieve the bit error rate performance c.m.arable to other non-coherent systems.

We propose and demonstrate a passively mode-locked erbium-doped fiber laser(EDFL)based on zinc-oxide/polydimethylsiloxane(ZnO/PDmS)saturable absorber(SA)that evanescently interacts with the light on a tapered *** ZnO/PDmS c.m.osite is coated on the whole surface of the tapered fiber to guarantee the maximum efficiency of the SA device,with a measured insertion loss of 0.87 dB and a modulation depth of 6.4%.The proposed laser can generate soliton mode-locking operation at a threshold power of 33.07 *** generated output pulse yields a repetition rate and pulse width of 9.77 mHz and 1.03 ps,*** results indicate that the proposed ZnO/PDmS-clad tapered fiber could be useful as an efficient,c.m.atible,and low-cost SA device for ultrafast laser applications.

mining diversity of the natural biorefinery housed within Tipula abdominalis larvae for use in an industrial biorefinery for production of lignocellulosic ethanol

Although they are the largest taxonomic group of animals, relatively few insects have been examined for symbiotic relationships with micro-organisms. However, this is rapidly changing because of the potential for examination of the natural insec.m.crobe-lignocellulose interactions to provide insights for biofuel technology. micro-organisms associated with lignocellulose-consuming insects often facilitate the digestion of the recalcitrant plant diet; therefore these microbial c.m.unities may be mined for novel lignocellulose-degrading microbes, or for robust and inexpensive biocatalysts necessary for economically feasible biofuel production from lignocellulose. These insect-microbe interactions are influenced by the ecosystem and specific lignocellulose diet, and appre- ciating the whole ecosystem-insect-microbiota-lignocellulose as a natural biorefinery provides a rich and diverse framework from which to design novel industrial processes. One such natural biorefinery, the Tipula abdominalis larvae in riparian ecosystems, is reviewed herein with applications for biochemical processes and overc.m.ng challenges involved in conversion of lignocellulosic biomass to fuel ethanol. From the dense and diverse T. abdominalis larval hindgut microbial c.m.unity, a cellulolytic bacterial isolate, 27c64, demonstrated enzymatic activity toward many model plant polymers and also produced a bacterial antibiotic. 27c64 was co-cultured with yeast in fermentation of pine to ethanol, which allowed for a 20% reduction of c.m.ercial enzyme. In this study, a micro-organism from a lignocellulose-consuming insect was successfully applied for improvement of biomass-to-biofuel technology.

In this paper, we address the demanding task of developing intelligent systems equippedwith machine creativity that can perform design tasks automatically. The main challenge is howto model human beings creativity mathematically and mimic such creativity c.m.utationally. Wepropose a “synthesis reasoning model” as the underlying mechanism to simulate human beingscreative thinking when they are handling design tasks. We present the theory of the synthesisreasoning model, and the detailed procedure of designing an intelligent system based on the *** o?er a case study of an intelligent chinese calligraphy generation system which we have *** on implementation experiences of the calligraphy generation system as well as a few othersystems for solving real-world problems, we suggest a generic.m.thodology for constructing intelligentsystems using the synthesis reasoning model.
