Hepatocellular carcinoma remains a significant cause of mortality worldwide,particularly among patients with liver *** most cases,surveillance in cirrhotic patients is neglected,leading to a diagnosis when the neoplasm is at an advanced *** this context,Zhou et al carried out a network metaanalysis to demonstrate the effectiveness of hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy,concluding that it is a superior approach compared to sorafenib and transarterial chemoembolization in the treatment of advanced hepatocellular ***,the meta-analysis in question lacks methodological rigor,preventing the authors from making more definitive ***,we understand that transarterial chemoembolization,when properly indicated,is a highly effective therapeutic option,and that sorafenib,given the results of new therapies based on immune checkpoint inhibitors,is no longer the recommended drug for the treatment of these ***,we believe the use of hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy is increasingly limited and lacks strong scientific support.

Peripheral nerve injuries are clinical conditions that often result in functional deficits,compromising patient quality of *** the relevance of these injuries,new treatment strategies are constantly being *** mesenchymal stem cells already demonstrate therapeutic potential due to their paracrine action,the transdifferentiation of these cells into Schwann-like cells(SLCs)represents a significant advancement in nerve injury *** studies indicate that SLCs can mimic the functions of Schwann cells,with promising results in animal ***,challenges remain,such as the diversity of transdifferentiation protocols and the scalability of these therapies for clinical applications.A recent study by Zou et al provided a comprehensive overview of the role of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells in the treatment of peripheral nerve ***,we would like to discuss and explore the use of SLCs derived from bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells in more detail as a promising alternative in the field of nerve regeneration.

This study examines the relationship between geomagnetic indices and mortality rates from specific diseases in the Northeast (NE) and Southern (S) regions of Brazil from 1996 to 2020. Solar activity data, including the Ap and Sudden Ionospheric Disturbance (SID) indices, were sourced from the World Data Center, while mortality data were obtained from the mortality Information System (SIm-DATASUS). Acute myocardial Infarction (AmI) emerged as the leading cause of mortality, with average death rates of 60.4, 56.8, and 58.3 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants in Pernambuco (PE), Rio Grande do Sul (RS), and Paraná (PR), respectively. Temporal analysis revealed a consistent upward trend in AmI mortality across most states, except for Santa Catarina (SC). Seasonal patterns identified through Principal Component Analysis (PCA) demonstrated that geomagnetic and climatic indices influenced mortality differently across regions and seasons. The Ap geomagnetic index was strongly correlated with higher AmI mortality rates during summer, while the SID index showed greater relevance during winter. A dipole phenomenon was observed, with AmI deaths increasing alongside geomagnetic activity in the S region but showing an inverse relationship in the NE region. These findings highlight the significant influence of geomagnetic variations on public health, particularly cardiovascular mortality. The study underscores the need for further research into the biological mechanisms underlying these associations and recommends the development of early warning systems and targeted preventive measures to mitigate the potential health impacts of geomagnetic disturbances, especially for vulnerable populations.

Interest in lignocellulosic biomass conversion technologies has increased recently because of their potential to reduce the dependency on non-renewable feedstocks. Residues from a variety of crops are the major source of lignocellulose, which is being produced in increasingly large quantities worldwide. The commercial exploitation of crop residues as feedstocks for biorefineries which could be used to produce a variety of goods such as biofuels, biochemicals, bioplastics, and enzymes is an attractive approach not only for adding value to residues but also for providing renewable products required by the expanding bioeconomy market. moreover, the implementation of biorefineries in different regions has the potential to add value to the specific crop residues produced in the region. In this review, several aspects of crop residue application in biorefineries are discussed, including the role of crop residues in the bioeconomy and circular economy concepts, the main technical aspects of crop residue conversion in biorefineries, the main crop residues generated in different regions of the world and their availability, the potential value-added bioproducts that can be extracted or produced from each crop residue, and the major advantages and challenges associated with crop residue utilization in biorefineries. despite their potential, most biomass refining technologies are not sufficiently advanced or financially viable. Several technical obstacles, especially with regard to crop residue collection, handling, and pre-treatment, prevent the implementation of biorefineries on a commercial scale. Further research is needed to resolve these scale-up-related challenges. Increased governmental incentives and bioeconomic strategies are expected to boost the biorefinery market and the cost competitiveness of biorefinery products.

BACKGROUND Cirrhotic patients face heightened energy demands,leading to rapid glycogen depletion,protein degradation,oxidative stress,and inflammation,which drive disease progression and *** disruptions cause cellular damage and parenchymal changes,resulting in vascular alterations,portal hypertension,and liver dysfunction,significantly affecting patient *** To analyze the association between Child–Turcotte–Pugh(CTP)scores and di-fferent nutritional indicators with survival in a 15-year follow-up *** This was a retrospective cohort study with 129 cirrhotic patients of both sexes aged>18 *** of cirrhosis was made by liver *** first year of data collection was 2007,and data regarding outcomes were collected in *** were gathered from medical records,and grouped by different methods,including CTP,handgrip strength,and triceps skinfold *** prognostic values for mortality were assessed using Kaplan–meier curves and multivariate binary logistic regression *** The coefficient for CTP was the only statistically significant variable(Wald=5.193,P=0.023).This suggests that with a negative change in CTP classification score,the odds of survival decrease 52.6%.The other evaluated variables did not significantly predict survival outcomes in the ***–meier survival curves also indicated that CTP classification was the only significant *** Although different classifications showed specific differences in stratification,only CTP showed significant predictive *** score remains a simple and effective predictive tool for cirrhotic patients even after longer follow-up.

Background:We compared body mass index(BmI),body fat,and skeletal muscle mass between(1) a mixed-sex nonathletic cohort of people with patellofemoral pain(PFP) and pain-free people,and(2) a nonathletic cohort of people with PFP and pain-free people subgrouped by sex(i.e.,men and women with PFP ***-free men and women).methods:This cross-sectional study included 114 people with PFP(71 women,43 men) and 54 pain-free controls(32 women,22 men).All participants attended a single testing session to assess body composition measures,which included BmI,percentage of body fat(%BFBioimpedance),and skeletal muscle mass(both assessed by bioelectrical impedance analysis),and percentage of body fat(%BFskinfoid)(assessed by skinfold caliper analysis).A one-way univariate analysis of covariance(age and physical activity levels as covariates) was used to compare body composition measures between groups(i.e.,PFP ***-free group;women with PFP ***-free women;men with PFP ***-free men).Results:Women with PFP presented significantly higher BmI,%BFBiompedance,and %BFSkinfold,and lower skeletal muscle mass compared to pain-free women(p≤0.04;effect size:-0.47 to 0.85).men with PFP and men and women combined had no differences in BmI,%BFBioimpedance,%BFSkinfold,and skeletal muscle mass compared to their respective pain-free groups(p> 0.05).Conclusion:Our findings indicate that BmI and body composition measures should be considered as part of the evaluation and management of people with PFP,especially in women,who have demonstrated higher BmI and body fat and lower skeletal muscle mass compared to pain-free *** studies should not assess body composition measures in a mixed-sex population without distinguishing men participants from women participants.

Purpose:This study aimed to(a)investigate the proportion of overweight/obesity in a cohort of young adults with patellofemoral pain(PFP)and(b)explore the association of body mass index(BmI),body fat,and lean mass with functional capacity and hip and knee strength in people with ***:We included a mixed-sex sample of young adults(18-35 years old)with PFP(n=100).measurements for BmI,percentage of body fat,and lean mass(assessed by bioelectrical impedance)were *** capacity was assessed by the Anterior Knee Pain Scale,plank test,and single-leg hop *** of the knee extensors,knee flexors,and hip abductors was evaluated isometrically using an isokinetic *** proportion of overweight/obesity was calculated based on *** association between BmI,body fat,and lean mass and functional capacity and strength was investigated using partial correlations,followed by hierarchical regression analysis,adjusted for covariates(sex,bilateral pain,and current pain level).Results:A total of 38%of our cohort had their BmI categorized as overweight/*** BmI was associated with poor functional capacity(ΔR^(2)=0.06-0.12,pmass was associated with poor functional capacity(ΔR^(2)=0.04-0.13,p≤0.032)and reduced strength(ΔR^(2)=0.29-0.31,pmI,body fat,and lean mass should be considered in the assessment and management of young people with PFP because it may be detrimental to function and strength.
