Accommodation in human eye models:a comparison between the optical designs of Navarro,Arizona and Liou-Brennan

AIM： To simulate and compare accommodation in accommodative and non-accommodative human eye ***： Ray tracing and optical design program was used. Three eye models were designed and studied： the Navarro, the Arizona and the Liou-Brennan. In order to make the Navarro and Liou-Brennan models to accommodate, specific geometric parameters of the models were altered with values that were chosen from the literature. For the Arizona model, its’ mathematical functions for accommodation were used for the same accommodative demands. The simulation included four distances of accommodation for each model： at infinity, 3, 1 and 0.5 *** results were diffraction images of a “letter F” for graphical comparison, spot diagrams on the retinal field and Modulation Transfer Function （MTF） ***：Zernike coefficients for the aberrations, Airy disk diameter, root mean square （RMs） error diameter and total axial length of the model were provided from the program. These were compared between them in all distances. The Navarro model had the smallest axial length change as a simple model. The Arizona did not change its axial length because it is designed to be accommodative. The Liou-Brennan model had different results concerning the aberrations because of the decentration of the pupil. The MTF graphs showed small differences between the models because of the differences in their ***： All the three models are able to simulate accommodation with the expected results. There is no model that can be assumed as the best choice. Accommodation can be simulated in non-accommodativemodels and in customized ones.

Currently, there are significant investments in the study of distributed generation, including solar energy by the photovoltaic conversion method. Basically, a cell directly converts solar energy to electricity. For this, static converters are required. However, relevant issues arise in this process: point of maximum efficiency of module generation, strategy of control of the flow of energy to the network. The aim of this work is to monitor the main variables of a photovoltaic system, specifically the voltage and current module and their derivates. The goal is to implement the maximum power tracking technique using Fuzzy logic. In addition, the energy provided by the cell will be employed in an inverter stage that can operate as an active filter, voltage regulator, or generator of reactive and active power. The feasibility of using Fuzzy logic will also be studied. The first stage of this work involves parameterization and simulation of photovoltaic modules. The initial study examines the compatibility of a commercial module and its catalog data with the results of simulation. The simulated I-V characteristics show almost identical results to the catalog data. In sequence, a boost or lift DC-DC converter is employed to emulate variable load for maximum power transfer.

Leishmaniasis is a set of diseases with a worldwide distribution that affects mainly economically underprivileged populations in developing countries. It has a major impact on public health, with a global cost of billions of dollars per year. The treatment and control of leishmaniasis vary according to the Leishmania species involved, which require reliable methods for species identification. since most of the currently used methods have limitations, there is a need for assays that allow rapid, precise identification of the offending species. Real-time polymerase chain reactions in conjunction with dissociation curve analysis have been used to detect differences in the DNA composition of selected genes of Leishmania spp. Kinetoplast DNA is the main molecular target used because of its high copy number per parasite, but other targets have also been studied. As part of an effort to establish melting temperature standards for each target gene, we have reviewed the pertinent literature available in public databases, including Pub Med, Web of science, sci ELO and LILACs, using the keywords "Leishmania", "leishmaniasis", "realtime PCR", "melting temperature", and "melting curve", alone or in combination. After applying eligibility criteria, 27 articles were selected for analysis. A considerable variation in the methodologies analyzed was found regarding molecular targets, standardization of the methods, reproducibility and specificity. Because of this, statistical analysis was not performed. In most cases, the methods were able to differentiate the parasite at the subgenus level or few species regardless of the target chosen.

Inflammatory bowel diseases(IBD)are chronic inflammatory disorders of the gastrointestinal tract associated with multifactorial conditions such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s *** the underlying mechanisms of IBD remain unclear,growing evidence has shown that dysregulated immune system reactions in genetically susceptible individuals contribute to mucosal ***,conventional treatments have been effective in inducing remission of IBD but not in preventing the relapse of *** this way,mesenchymal stromal cells(MsC)therapy has been recognized as a promising treatment for IBD due to their immunomodulatory properties,ability to differentiate into several tissues,and homing to inflammatory *** so,literature is conflicted regarding the location and persistence of MsC in the body after *** this reason,recent studies have focused on the paracrine effect of the biofactors secreted by MsC,especially in relation to the immunomodulatory potential of soluble factors(cytokines,chemokines,and growth factors)and extracellular vehicles that are involved in cell communication and in the transfer of cellular material,such as proteins,lipids,and nucleic ***,treatment with interferon-γ,tumor necrosis factor-α,and interleukin-1βcauses MsC to express immunomodulatory molecules that mediate the suppression via cell-contact dependent *** together,we present an overview of the role of bioactive factors and cell membrane proteins derived from MsC as a cell-free therapy that can improve IBD treatment.
