1-Hydroxyethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic Acid (HEDP) as a Corrosion Inhibitor of AISI 304 Stainless Steel in a Medium Containing Chloride and Sulfide Ions in the Presence of Different Metallic Cations

The novelty of this paper is the analysis in a medium containing sulfide ion due to the generation of this ion in petroleum industries, in the refining stage (the sulfide ion is also present on the produced water). The performance of 1-hydroxyethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic acid inhibitor (HEDP) was investigated by potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and weight loss measurements in a dissolution of AISI 304 stainless steel immersed in a solution containing chloride and sulfide ions. The protection of the stainless was increased with the addition of divalent cations (Ca2+, Zn2+, and Mg2+). Potentiodynamic polarization studies have shown that the inhibitor alone has anodic protection, but the addition of Ca2+ (10 mg·L-1) favors the cathodic protection, and the addition of Zn2+ (20 mg·L-1) and Mg2+ (10 mg·L-1) mixed-type is observed. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy was performed at three distinct potentials: -0.3 [V vs. SCE], Ecorr [V vs. SCE], and 0.1 [V vs. SCE]. This revealed that calcium is responsible for favoring the formation of the film and the other elements (zinc and magnesium) favor the stabilization of the protective film. Scanning electron microscopy analysis revealed that the addition of cations provided the adsorption of HEDP on the metal surface. Weight loss results showed that the presence of zinc in a solution containing HEDP favored greater inhibitor efficiency (Zn2+ ηm = 85.2% and for Mg2+ ηm = 70.4%).

This article proposes a pedagogical strategy to develop proficiency in writing and comprehension in native and foreign languages. It is a pilot project which intends to explore, develop, build, collect, select, analyze, and prepare an action plan for that purpose. The strategy is being used at a Federal Institute in Brazil--IF Sudeste MG, Rio Pomba campus. The subjects involved in this process of investigation are students of two classes who attend their first year at High School integrated to technical courses. The methodology involves the use of a school journal as a teaching and learning resource to encourage literary reading and the production of different genres. The goal is to establish an interaction between the reading and writing mediated by a young and playful context offering an additional instrument for instruction, aimed at the use and reflection of the language.

Electrochemical Investigation of Corrosion on AISI 316 Stainless Steel and AISI 1010 Carbon Steel: Study of the Behaviour of Imidazole and Benzimidazole as Corrosion Inhibitors

An electrochemical investigation of the corrosion on AISI 316 austenitic stainless steel and AISI 1010 carbon steel in sodium chloride solution (3.0 wt.%) was performed in the absence and presence of imidazole and benzimidazole corrosion inhibitors. The results showed that at any inhibitor concentration (25 ppm to 1000 ppm), there was an increase in the polarisation resistance of both steels. The highest efficiency of corrosion inhibition was obtained using imidazole at a concentration of 50 ppm for both steels, with values of 96% for the AISI 316 stainless steel and 73% for the AISI 1010 carbon steel.

Morphological and Electrochemical Characterization of Ti/MxTiySnzO2 (M = Ir or Ru) Electrodes Prepared by the Polymeric Precursor Method

This paper describes the effect of the composition of the oxide films on the properties of electrodes Ti/MxTiySnzO2 (M = Ir or Ru) prepared by the polymeric precursor method. XRD studies showed that the anodes are formed by solid solutions. The electrodes containing IrO2 exhibit lower activity for the oxygen evolution reaction. The doping of the electrode surface with SnO2 improves the catalytic properties of the anodes. However, it should be held in appropriate compositions, because the change in the atomic ratio of this element shows a marked effect on the stability of the oxides. Electrode Ti/Ir0.2Ti0.3Sn0.5O2 has lower lifetime, i.e. 6 hours. The 20% decrease in the stoichiometric amount of SnO2 increases the time to a value above 70 hours, as observed for Ti/Ir0.3Ti0.4Sn0.3O2. Electrode Ti/Ru0.3Ti0.4Sn0.3O2 shows lifetime of 11 hours;therefore IrO2 is more stable than RuO2 under the conditions investigated. These results suggest that electrode Ti/Ir0.3Ti0.4Sn0.3O2 is promising for different applications, such as water electrolysis, capacitors and organic electrosynthesis.

Three molecules containing morpholine, 1,4-naphthoquinone, 7-chloroquinoline and 1,3,5-triazine cores, scaffolds with recognized anti-corrosive activity, were synthesized and had their anticorrosive activity evaluated through potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance studies. The geographical extent of Brazil exceeds 8.5 million km2 and encompasses a complex mix of biomes and other environmental *** decision support tools are needed to help support management of these diverse Brazilian natural resources including ecohydrological *** use of the Soil and Water Assessment Tool(SWAT)ecohydrological watershed-scale model in Brazil has increased greatly during the past *** over 100 SWAT studies were identified in this review which have been published during 1999 to 2015 in Brazilian and international journals,conference proceedings,and as theses or dissertations,many of which are written in *** majority of these studies(102 total)are reviewed here as part of an extensive survey covering the 1999 to 2013 time *** and spatial distributions,a summary of hydrologic calibration and validation results and a synopsis of the types of applications that were performed are reported for the surveyed studies.A smaller subset of recent Brazilian studies published in English between 2012 and 2015 in scientific journals are also reviewed,with emphasis on hydrologic and sediment transport testing results as well as scenario applications that were *** majority of the surveyed SWAT studies was performed for watersheds located in the South and Southeast regions of Brazil(67%)and was conducted in the context of academic *** 50%of the surveyed studies reported only hydrologic *** trends were found for the subset of more recent English *** studies have been reported that describe applications of SWAT in Brazil by private firms or government agencies;this review indicates that the potential exists for increased numbers of such studies in the ***,there is evidence that a lack of accessibility to adequate quality input data is a possible hindrance to the more general use of SWAT for watershed applications in Brazil.

Endophytic fungi(EF)colonize plant tissues without causing damage;this relationship brings benefits to both,including a greater resistance to environmental stresses,but the influence of genotypes and culture system in endophytic community is still ***,this work aimed to study EF from Sorghum bicolor and correlate to its genotypes submitted to different culture systems;their potential to produce antimicrobial compounds was also *** optimize the production of metabolites,four isolates were submitted to liquid medium and the crude extracts of different culture times were *** of leaves of Qualimax and SF15 genotypes were isolated after superficial *** identification was made using classical *** results,the traditional system presented the lowest number EF isolates,while the minimum system showed the *** genera Aspergillus,Fusarium,Penicillium,Cladosporium,Curvularia and Syncephalastrum were found;Aspergillus *** pointed out as a predominant endophyte of genotype *** the 25 endophytes submitted antimicrobial activity assay in solid medium,21 presented antibacterial activity against at least one bacterium with the highest inhibition zone of 29.3 mm of diameter against Staphylococcus *** EF submitted to liquid medium kept the capacity to produce antibacterial *** conclusion,regardless of genotype and culture system,sorghum is colonized by different EF,mainly Aspergillus *** from leaves of *** produce antibacterial compounds and their biotechnological applications can be explored in future.
