Relationships between regulated dBPs and emerging dBPs of health concern in U.S. drinking water

A survey was conducted at eight U.S. drinking water plants, that spanned a wide range of water qualities and treatment/disinfection practices. Plants that treated heavily-wastewaterimpacted source waters had lower trihalomethane to dihaloacetonitrile ratios due to the presence of more organic nitrogen and HAN precursors. As the bromide to total organic carbon ratio increased, there was more bromine incorporation into dBPs. This has been shown in other studies for THMs and selected emerging dBPs(HANs), whereas this study examined bromine incorporation for a wider group of emerging dBPs(haloacetaldehydes, halonitromethanes). Moreover, bromine incorporation into the emerging dBPs was, in general, similar to that of the THMs. Epidemiology studies that show an association between adverse health effects and brominated THMs may be due to the formation of brominated emerging dBPs of heath concern. Plants with higher free chlorine contact times before ammonia addition to form chloramines had less iodinated dBP formation in chloraminated distribution systems, where there was more oxidation of the iodide to iodate(a sink for the iodide) by the chlorine. This has been shown in many bench-scale studies(primarily for iodinated THMs), but seldom in full-scale studies(where this study also showed the impact on total organic iodine. Collectively, the THMs, haloacetic acids, and emerging dBPs accounted for a significant portion of the TOCl, TOBr, and TOI;however, ~50% of the TOCl and TOBr is still unknown. The correlation of the sum of detected dBPs with the TOCl and TOBr suggests that they can be used as reliable surrogates.

Showering in Flint, MI: Is there a dBP problem?

Lead contamination in the City of Flint, MI has been well documented over the past two years, with lead levels above the EPA Action Level until summer 2016. This resulted from an ill-fated decision to switch from detroit water（Lake Huron） with corrosion control, to Flint River water without corrosion control. Although lead levels are now closer to normal,reports of skin rashes have sparked questions surrounding tap water in some Flint *** study investigated the presence of contaminants, including disinfection by-products（dBPs）, in the hot tap water used for showering in the homes of residents in Flint. Extensive quantitative analysis of 61 regulated and priority unregulated dBPs was conducted in Flint hot and cold tap water, along with the analysis of 50 volatile organic compounds and a nontarget comprehensive, broadscreen analysis, to identify a possible source for the reported skin rashes. For comparison, chlorinated hot and cold waters from three other cities were also sampled, including detroit, which also uses Lake Huron as its source *** showed that hot water samples generally contained elevated levels of regulated and priority unregulated dBPs compared to cold water samples, but trihalomethanes were still within regulatory limits. Overall, hot shower water from Flint was similar to waters sampled from the three other cities and did not have unusually high levels of dBPs or other organic chemicals that could be responsible for the skin rashes observed by residents. It is possible that an inorganic chemical or microbial contaminant may be responsible.

Photogrammetry is experiencing an era of democratization mostly due to the popularity and availability of many commercial off-the-shelf devices,such as drones and *** are used as the most convenient and effective tools for high-resolution image acquisition for a wide range of applications in science,engineering,management,and cultural ***,the quality,particularly the geometric accuracy,of the outcomes from such consumer sensors is still ***,the expected quality under different control schemes has yet to be thoroughly *** paper intends to answer those questions with a comprehensive comparative ***,in particular,structure from motion,has been used to reconstruct a 3d building model from smartphone and consumer drone images,as well as from professional drone images,all under various ground control *** from this study show that the positioning accuracy of smartphone images under direct geo-referencing is 165.4 cm,however,this could be improved to 43.3 cm and 14.5 cm when introducing aerial lidar data and total station surveys as ground control,*** results are found for consumer drone images as *** comparison,this study shows the use of the professional drone is able to achieve a positioning accuracy of 3.7 ***,we demonstrate that through the combined use of drone and smartphone images we are able to obtain full coverage of the entire target with a 2.3 cm positioning *** study concludes that smartphone images can achieve an accuracy equivalent to consumer drone images and can be used as the primary data source for building facade data collection.

A detailed computational investigation,based on density functional theory,of the interaction of polyani-line(PANI)and graphene nanoribbons(GNRs)with SrTiO_(3) is *** adsorption of PANI in var-ious oxidation states and co-adsorption with GNRs is found to be thermodynamically ***-sorbed PANI introduces N and C 2p states into the SrTiO_(3) bandgap,while co-adsorption of PANI and GNRs leads to a bridging of the gap and semi-metallic behaviour,thus rendering the electrical properties highly sensitive to the loading of the GNRs/PANI in the *** the lattice dynamics of the composites predicts a 68-88%reduction in the lattice thermal conductivity due to reduced phonon group *** together,these findings provide insight into the growing number of experimental studies highlighting the enhanced thermoelectric performance of oxide-polymer composites and indicate co-adsorption with graphene as a facile direction for future research.

While most patients with an anterior cruciate ligament(ACL) injury indicate satisfaction with surgical intervention, a significant proportion still do not return to pre-injury level of function or sport. Psychiatric comorbidities, such as depression, have recently been associated with poor clinical outcomes after ACL reconstruction(ACLR). To date, no article has yet examined how depression affects ACLR outcomes and how potential screening and intervention for psychological distress may affect postoperative activity level. The purpose of this review is to delineate potential relationships between depression and ACLR outcome, discuss clinical implications and identify future directions for research.

Spectrum management and resource allocation(RA)problems are challenging and critical in a vast number of research areas such as wireless communications and computer *** traditional approaches for solving such problems usually consume time and memory,especially for large-size *** different machine learning approaches have been considered as potential promising techniques for combinatorial optimization problems,especially the generative model of the deep neural *** this work,we propose a resource allocation deep autoencoder network,as one of the promising generative models,for enabling spectrum sharing in underlay device-to-device(d2d)communication by solving linear sum assignment problems(LSAPs).Specifically,we investigate the performance of three different architectures for the conditional variational autoencoders(CVAE).The three proposed architecture are the convolutional neural network(CVAECNN)autoencoder,the feed-forward neural network(CVAE-FNN)autoencoder,and the hybrid(H-CVAE)*** simulation results show that the proposed approach could be used as a replacement of the conventional RA techniques,such as the Hungarian algorithm,due to its ability to find solutions of LASPs of different sizes with high accuracy and very fast execution ***,the simulation results reveal that the accuracy of the proposed hybrid autoencoder architecture outperforms the other proposed architectures and the state-of-the-art dNN techniques.

Open-top chamber experiment with field-grown winter wheat （Triticum aestevum L） was conducted from6th March to20th May2010, at the Agro-meteorology Experiment Station of Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology. This was to access the single and the integrated effect of enhance UV-B radiation and ozone stress on the physiological characteristics of winter wheat. darkening treatments and removing leaves methods were used to analyze contribution rate of different green organs to yield after flowering. Winter wheat was treated with enhanced UV-B radiation and ozone,8hours per day （9:00-17:00）, for a total of50d. Before fumigation, O3concentration around OTC （field） was detected by EC-9810（B） Ozone Monitoring Instrument for about11days （from9:00to17:00, the instrument automatically read a data every5min）. The result show that03concentrations was8.19-63.8n1·L-1, and8h average concentration was35.27nl· L-1. Enhanced UV-B and O3reduced chlorophyll of the flag leaf and the green organs, carotenoid and the gas exchange whereas the intercellular CO2concentration （Ci） changed slightly. The contents of Malondialdehyde, flavonoid, relative conductance increased due to UV-B and ozone treatment. The interactive effects were however, less than additive. The darkening treatment generally increased the chlorophyll contents but not much significant. Assessment of the yield characteristics at the final harvest showed that ozone and UV-d induced decreased the number of grain per ear, the weight of the ear stem and root and1000-grain weight. Generally the1000-grain weight and the grain weight per ear almost declined as a result of the removal of the flag leaf and the darkening of the green organs in the various chambers. The distribution of the dry matter of the ear under the flag leaf removal and the darkened treatments on the other hand decreased with an exception of the darkened sheath where increase occurred in most chambers whiles the proportion of the dry matter dis
