Prevalence and Demographic Distributions of Pre-Eclampsia among Pregnant Women at Ho Teaching Hospital

background: In Sub-Saharan Africa, pre-eclampsia remains a major health problem contributing to high rates of maternal mortality. Despite this condition having adverse effects on maternal and child health, its prevalence and associated risk factors are still significant, especially in developing countries including Ghana. This study aimed to assess the prevalence and demographic distributions associated with pre-eclampsia among pregnant women at the Ho Teaching Hospital. Methods: A facility-based retrospective study was conducted by reviewing available data or hospital records of pregnant mothers admitted to the labor and maternity wards from January 2018 to December 2020. All pregnant women who were diagnosed with pre-eclampsia within this period were included in the study. The data were collected using a structured checklist. Results: 5609 data on pregnant women from 2018 to 2020 were recorded. Out of the 5609 data recorded, 314 pre-eclampsia cases were recorded giving an overall prevalence of 5.6%. The yearly prevalence for 2018, 2019, and 2020 were 4.6%, 5.6%, and 6.6%, respectively. The most recorded pre-eclampsia cases were seen among women within the age group of 18 - 24 years. The data showed that 112 (35.7%) of the pregnant women who had pre-eclampsia were nulliparous. Pre-eclampsia-associated maternal and fetal complications were;preterm delivery 221 (70.4%), intrauterine fetal death 62 (19.7%), eclampsia 9 (2.9%), HELLP syndrome 5 (1.6%) and maternal death 17 (5.4%). Associated factors of pre-eclampsia were parity, level of education, and occupation (p ≤ 0.05). Conclusion: The findings of this study showed a rising trend in the incidence of pre-eclampsia over the years at the Ho Teaching Hospital. Parity, level of education, and occupation were found to be associated with developing pre-eclampsia.

Aerial imagery is regularly used by crop researchers,growers and farmers to monitor crops during the growing *** extract meaningful information from large-scale aerial images collected from the field,high-throughput phenotypic analysis solutions are required,which not only produce high-quality measures of key crop traits,but also support professionals to make prompt and reliable crop management ***,we report AirSurf,an automated and open-source analytic platform that combines modern computer vision,up-to-date machine learning,and modular software engineering in order to measure yield-related phenotypes from ultra-large aerial *** quantify millions of in-field lettuces acquired by fixed-wing light aircrafts equipped with normalised difference vegetation index(NDVI)sensors,we customised AirSurf by combining computer vision algorithms and a deep-learning classifier trained with over 100,000 labelled lettuce *** tailored platform,AirSurf-Lettuce,is capable of scoring and categorising iceberg lettuces with high accuracy(>98%).Furthermore,novel analysis functions have been developed to map lettuce size distribution across the field,based on which associated global positioning system(GPS)tagged harvest regions have been identified to enable growers and farmers to conduct precision agricultural practises in order to improve the actual yield as well as crop marketability before the harvest.

background Transcatheter aortic valve replacement(TAVR)for the treatment symptomatic severe aortic stenosis(AS)is indicated in patients with intermediate or higher surgical *** trials showed TAVR,and surgical aortic valve replacement(SAVR)perform similarly at 1-year for the composite outcomes of mortality,stroke and *** performed a comprehensive meta-analysis to compare individual outcomes at 1-year for TAVR compared to SAVR in low-risk *** Pub Med,Embase,and Cochrane central were searched for all the randomized controlled trials(RCTs)that reported 1-year comparative outcomes of TAVR and surgical aortic valve replacement(SAVR).Our conclusions are based upon the random-effects model using Der Simonian-Laird *** Data from 4 trials and 2887 randomized patients showed that TAVR had lower rates of all-cause mortality,cardiovascular mortality,and atrial fibrillation compared to SAVR at 1-year follow-up(Pbility of clinical benefits in TAVR over SAVR in low-risk patients.

Transcriptome Analysis of Drought Induced Stress in <i>Chenopodium quinoa</i>

Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) is a halophytic, allotetraploid grain crop of the Amaranthaceae family with impressive drought tolerance, nutritional content and an increasing worldwide market. Here we report the results of an RNA-seq transcriptome analysis of Chenopodium quinoa using four water treatments (field capacity to drought) on the varieties “Ingapirca” (representing valley ecotypes) and “Ollague” (representing Altiplano Salares ecotypes). Physiological results, including growth rate, photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance, and stem water potential, support the earlier findings that the Altiplano Salares ecotypes display greater tolerance to drought-like stress conditions than the valley ecotypes. cDNA libraries from root tissue samples for each variety × treatment combination were sequenced using Illumina Hi-Seq technology in an RNA-seq experiment. De novo assembly of the transcriptome generated 20,337 unique transcripts. Gene expression analysis of the RNA-seq data identified 462 putative gene products that showed differential expression based on treatment, and 27 putative gene products differentially expressed based on variety × treatment, including significant expression differences in root tissue in response to increasing water stress. bLAST searches and gene ontology analysis show an overlap between drought tolerance stress and other abiotic stress mechanisms.

Allelopathic Potential of Some Crop Residues on the Germination and Growth of Soybean （Glycine max L,） Merrill

Allelopathic potentials of aqueous water extracts from residues of sorghum stem, maize inflorescence and rice husks on the germination of soybeans （Glycine max. L.） were investigated. The result showed that the extracts brought about a considerable inhibition in the germination of soybean seeds, reductions in the radicle and plumule lengths of soybean seedlings. Whereas, the extracts of maize inflorescence and rice husk had more inhibitory effects on the growth of soybean radicle, all the three extracts demonstrated pronounced inhibitory effects on the growth of the plumule. The retardation of soybean germination, radicle and plumule growths were concentration dependents as the degree of retardations increases with increase in the concentration of the extracts. Statistical analysis （ANOVA, P = 0.05） revealed that there were no significant differences in the germination, radicle and plumule growths at 24 and 48 h experimental time when compared to the control. However, statistical differences abound in the growth parameters at 72 and 144 h experimental time.

Development of Maize-Tigernut Fortified Weaning Food Using Starter Cultures

The effects of starter fermentation on the nutritional qualities of maize-tigernut fortified weaning foods were investigated. The dry-milled, malted maize grains fortified with dry-milled roasted tigernut flours (70:30) were subjected to 48 hrs of spontaneous and starter fermentation (singly and as combined starters). Nutritional, sensory characteristics and feeding trials of the weaning foods were evaluated. Four fermented weaning blends were formulated: FMT (spontaneously fermented maize-tigernut), SFMT1 (Lactobacillus plantarum F2C fermented maize-tigernut), SFMT2 (Lactobacillus plantarum U2A fermented maize-tigernut) and SFMT3 (combined starter-fermented maize-tigernut). SFMT2 had the highest crude protein, fat, fibre, ash and least carbohydrate content among the blends. The highest energy content (456.84 Kcal/100 g) was observed in blend SMFT2 which was also higher than that of both negative (Nutrend) and positive (Conventional animal feed) controls. The least antinutrient and vitamin contents were recorded in SFMT2. blend SFMT1 had the highest Vitamin b1 (0.67 mg/100 g), Vitamin A (472.60 ug/100 g), phosphorus (75.45 mg/100 g) and zinc (1.05 mg/100 g) contents while the highest calcium (17.17 mg/100 g) and iron (22.82 mg/100 g) were recorded in SFMT2. Sample SFMT2 was rated the highest in all of the sensory characteristics except colour and the highest overall acceptability (6.00) which was not different significantly from all other starter produce blends. biological evaluation showed blend SFMT2 fed animals having the highest weight by 28 days (73.14 g), mean weight gain (5.46 g), mean feed intake (18.71 g) and mean protein efficiency ratio PER (3.65). However, all the PER values including that of controls (2.30) were higher than the value of 2.10 recommended by the Protein Advisory Group (PAG) for complementary foods. 本文综述了已完成的如下几方面的工作:包含可行的穿透与采样设备的数据库的编辑,将选定的设备与一组规定的参数相比较而得到的系统级性能综合研究,以及对03和05号火星采样返回任务中可能应用的穿透与采样设备的评价标准与排队顺序。所进行的综合方案研究基于一组科学的、工程的、计划的和社会政治的判据。对不同的穿透与采样设备使用一种度量标准可以简化目前设备和将来设备的选择。提出了三种赋权与评分方法,分别对应宽松要求、严要求和实际状况的应用场合。根据所提出的判据和三种赋权与评分方法,对5种可供选择的以着陆器为基地的采样系统方案(包括目前的火星采样返回方案)进行了评估。我们发现,根据反映实际状况的这种赋权与评分方法,以着陆器为基地的优化采样系统就是目前采用的火星采样返回基线方案,因为从NAsA的观点来看,目前的基线方案不必考虑成本条件。然而,如果这个条件不满足,那么基于所选的判据和权值,优化采样系统将可能改变。若需要替代目前的以着陆器为基地的样品采集基本方案,考虑到这一点是很重要的。
