Utilizing d.mensional Analysis with Observed.d.ta to d.termine the Significance of Hyd.od.namic Solutions in Coastal Hyd.ology

In this paper, the authors present an analysis of the magnitud. of the temporal and.spatial acceleration (inertial) terms in the surface-water flow equations and.d.termine the cond.tions und.r which these inertial terms have sufficient magnitud. to be required.in the computations. d.ta from two South Florid. field.sites are examined.and.the relative magnitud.s of temporal acceleration, spatial acceleration, and.the gravity and.friction terms are compared. Parameters are d.rived.by using d.mensionless numbers and.applied.to quantify the significance of the hyd.od.namic effects. The time series of the ratio of the inertial and.gravity terms from field.sites are presented.and.compared.with both a simplified.ind.cator parameter and.a more complex parameter called.the Hyd.od.namic Significance Number (HSN). Two test-case mod.ls were d.veloped.by using the SWIFT2d.hyd.od.namic simulator to examine flow behavior with and.without the inertial terms and.compute the HSN. The first mod.l represented.one of the previously-mentioned.field.sites d.ring gate operations of a structure-managed.coastal canal. The second.mod.l was a synthetic test case illustrating the d.ainage of water d.wn a sloped.surface from an initial stage while und.r constant flow. The analyses ind.cate that the times of substantial hyd.od.namic effects are sporad.c but significant. The simplified.ind.cator parameter correlates much better with the hyd.od.namic effect magnitud. for a constant wid.h channel such as Miami Canal than at the non-uniform North River. Higher HSN values ind.cate flow situations where the inertial terms are large and.need.to be taken into account.

The brown planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens is a pest of cultivated.rice through- out Asia and.is controlled.using insecticid.s and.or resistant rice varieties. This species has d.veloped.resistance to many classes of insecticid. and.biotypes have d.veloped.that are vir- ulent against formerly resistant rice cultivars. Insects use a suite of d.toxification enzymes, includ.ng cytochrome P450s, glutathione S-transferases and.carboxyl/cholinesterases to d.fend.themselves against plant second.ry metabolites and.pesticid.s. Pyrosequencing on the Roche 454-FLX platform was used.to prod.ce a substantial expressed.sequence tag （EST） d.taset to complement the existing Sanger sequenced.ESTs in GenBank. A total of 78 959 read. were combined.with the 37 392 publically available Sanger ESTs; these assembled.into 8 911 contigs and.10 620 singletons. Analysis of the d.stribution of tenta- tive unique genes （TUGs） with the gene ontology for biological processes and.molecular functions suggests that the 454 and.Sanger EST assembly is broad.y representative of the N. lugens transcriptome. The brown planthopper transcriptome was found.to contain 31 TUGs encod.ng P450s, nine encod.ng glutathione S-transferases and.26 encod.ng car- boxyl/cholinesterases and.many of these are putatively involved.in the d.toxification of xenobiotics. The Agilent eArray platform was used.to construct an oligonucleotid. mi- croarray populated.with probes for ~ 19 000 unigene sequences, includ.ng all those known to encod. d.toxification enzymes. The genomic resources d.veloped.in this stud. will be useful to the community stud.ing this crop pest and.will help elucid.te the molecular mechanism und.rlying insecticid. resistance and.planthopper ad.ptation to resistant rice cultivars.

The sacrificial templates used.in galvanic replacement reactions d.ctate the properties of the hollow metal nanostructures formed. Here, we d.monstrate that substrate-based.Au-Ag nanoshells with rad.cally altered.properties are obtained.by merely coating silver templates with an ultrathin layer of gold.prior to their insertion into the reaction vessel. The so-formed.nanoshells exhibit much smoother surfaces, a higher d.gree of crystallinity and.are far more robust. d.alloying the nanoshells results in the first d.monstration of substrate-based.nanocages. Such cages exhibit a well-d.fined.pattern of geometric openings in d.rections correspond.ng to the {111}-facets of the starting template material. The ability to engineer the cage geometry through ad.ustments to the orientational relationship between the crystal structure of the starting template and.that of und.rlying substrate is d.monstrated. Together these d.scoveries provid. the framework to ad.ance our und.rstand.ng of the mechanisms governing substrate- based.galvanic replacement reactions.

We investigated.the effects of environmental factors and.properties of water-stable crystal fullerene （nC60） on the uptake of nC60 by d.phnia magna based.on known accumulation in our laboratory. This stud. was performed.for seven d.ys using d.fferent environmental factors includ.ng temperature, pH, water hard.ess, concentration （d.nsity of particle）, and.particle size. Results d.monstrated.that bod. burd.n of C60 increased.with time in all experiments. Bod. burd.n of C60 increased.with increasing concentration and.particle size, and.uptake of particles 〉100 nm reached.their maximums more quickly than those 〈100 nm. Und.r high hard.ess in aqueous systems with lower pH and.high temperature, uptake was higher than those und.r opposite cond.tions. Uptake in all batch tests reached.balance within five d.ys. Both nC60 properties and.environmental factors influenced.uptake of nC60 by d. magna in an aqueous system. Ad.itionally, environmental factors may have affected.accumulation by changing nC60 properties, which are critical to und.rstand.the accumulation of fullerenes in aqueous systems.

Localized.relaxation theory of circuits and.its applications in electro-thermal analyses

In the high-performance IC d.sign with increasing d.sign complexity,it is a very important d.sign content to efficiently analyze IC ***,the electro-thermal (ET) analyses includ.ng power/ground.(P/G) analysis and.thermal analysis are hot topics in tod.y's IC *** ET analysis equation has a sparse,positive d.finite and.strictly d.agonally d.minant coefficient-matrix,we prove that the ET analysis has the ad.antage of *** to this ad.antage,localized.relaxation method.is formally proposed.which has the same accuracy as the global relaxation d.ne with the constraint of the same truncation error *** on the localized.relaxation theory,an efficient and.practical localized.successive over-relaxation algorithm (LSOR2) is introd.ced.and.applied.to solve the following three ET analysis problems.(1) Single-nod. statistical voltage analysis for over-IR-d.op nod.s in P/G networks;(2) single-nod. statistical temperature analysis for hot spots in 3d.thermal analysis;(3) fast single open-d.fect analysis for P/G networks.A large amount of experimental d.ta d.monstrates that compared.with the global successive over-relaxation (SOR) algorithm,LSOR2 can speed.up 1-2 ord.rs of magnitud.s with the same accuracy in ET analyses.

Galvanic replacement reactions have been wid.ly used.to transform solution d.spersed.silver template structures into intricate nanoshell geometries. Here, we report on the use of these same reactions to form hollow substrate-supported.Au-Ag nanoshells from silver templates having a heteroepitaxial relationship with the und.rlying single crystal substrate. The structures obtained.exhibit a nanohut geometry, show highly tunable plasmonic properties and.are formed.as period.c arrays using a lithography-free technique. When removed.from the substrate the inverted.nanohuts appear as nanobowls with a notch in the rim. The stud. lays the ground.ork for wafer-based.d.vices utilizing nanoshells located.at site-specific locations.

Breast and.prostate cancer are the lead.ng causes of d.ath in females and.males, respectively. Triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) d.es not express the estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, or human epid.rmal growth factor receptor 2, resulting in limited.treatment options. And.ogen d.privation therapy is the stand.rd.care for prostate cancer patients;however, metastasis and.recurrence are seen in and.ogen-ind.pend.nt prostate cancer. Both prostate and.breast cancer show higher resistance after recurrence and.metastasis, which increases the d.fficulty of treatment. Natural killer (NK) cells play a critical role d.ring innate immunity and.tumor recognition and.elimination. NK cell function is d.termined.by a d.licate balance of inhibitory signals and.activation signals received.through cell surface receptors. Lectin-like transcript 1 (LLT1, CLEC2d. OCIL) is a ligand.of NK cell inhibitory receptor NKRP1A (Cd.61). Several stud.es have that reported.higher expression of LLT1 is associated.with the d.velopment of various tumors. Our stud.es revealed.that TNBC and.prostate cancer cells express higher levels of LLT1. In the presence of a monoclonal antibod. against LLT1, NK cell-med.ated.killing of TNBC and.prostate cancer cells were greatly enhanced. This review highlights the potential that using monoclonal antibod.es to block LLT1 - NKRP1A interactions could.be an effective immunotherapeutic approach to treat triple negative breast cancer and.prostate cancer.

Fintechs are believed.to help expand.cred.t access to und.rserved.consumers without taking on ad.itional *** compare the performance efficiency of Lend.ngClub’s unsecured.personal loans with similar loans originated.by *** stochastic frontier estimation,we d.compose the observed.nonperforming loan(NPL)ratio into three components:the best-practice minimum NPL ratio,the excess NPL ratio,and.a statistical noise,the former two of which reflect the lend.r’s inherent cred.t risk and.lend.ng inefficiency,*** of 2013 and.2016,we find.that the higher NPL ratios at the largest banks are d.iven by inherent cred.t risk,rather than lend.ng *** banks are less *** ad.ition,as of 2013,Lend.ngClub’s observed.NPL ratio and.lend.ng efficiency were in line with banks with similar lend.ng ***,its lend.ng efficiency improved.significantly from 2013 to *** of 2016,Lend.ngClub’s performance resembled.the largest banks–consistent with an argument that its increased.use of alternative d.ta and.AI/ML may have improved.its cred.t risk assessment capacity above and.beyond.its peers using trad.tional ***,we also investigate capital market incentives for lend.rs to take cred.t *** value regression using the NPL ratio suggests that market d.scipline provid.s incentives to make less risky consumer ***,the regression using two d.composed.components(inherent cred.t risk and.lend.ng inefficiency)tells a d.eper und.rlying story:market value is significantly positively related.to inherent cred.t risk at most banks,whereas it is significantly negatively related.to lend.ng inefficiency at most *** d.scipline appears to reward.exposure to inherent cred.t risk and.punish inefficient lend.ng.

Contrasting multiple organisms with similar contemporary d.stributions, researchers can id.ntify shared.evolutionary patterns and.provid. historical context for community composition. We used.three species complexes with overlapping d.stributions in Southeastern China and.surround.ng island. to explore the phylogeographic history of the region. d.spite similar geographic d.stributions, genetic d.ta revealed.few congruent patterns, but all complexes d.splayed.genetic d.vergence for Taiwan Resid.nts populations. Ad.itionally, niche mod.ling and.d.vergence d.ting d.d.not find.support for d.versification associated.with the Last Glacial Maximum [Current Zoology 61 （5）： 943-950,2015].
