High-yield and rapid isolation of extracellular vesicles by flocculation via orbital acoustic trapping:FLOAT

Extracellular vesicles(EVs)have been identified as promising biomarkers for the noninvasive diagnosis of various ***,challenges in separating EVs from soluble proteins have resulted in variable EV recovery rates and low ***,we report a high-yield(>90%)and rapid(in)EV isolation method called FLocculation via Orbital Acoustic Trapping(FLOAT).The FLOAT approach utilizes an acoustofluidic droplet centrifuge to rotate and controllably heat liquid *** adding a thermoresponsive polymer flocculant,nanoparticles as small as 20 nm can be rapidly and selectively concentrated at the center of the *** demonstrate the ability of FLOAT to separate urinary EVs from the highly abundant Tamm-Horsfall protein,addressing a significant obstacle in the development of EV-based liquid *** to its high-yield nature,FLOAT reduces biofluid starting volume requirements by a factor of 100(from 20 mL to 200µL),demonstrating its promising potential in point-of-care diagnostics.

Wastewater surveillance（WWS） can leverage its wide coverage, population-based sampling, and high monitoring frequency to capture citywide pandemic trends independent of clinical surveillance. Here we conducted a nine months daily WWS for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2（SARS-CoV-2） from 12 wastewater treatment plants（WWTPs）, covering approximately 80% of the population,to monitor infection dynamics in Hong kong, China. We found that the SARS-CoV-2 virus concentration in wastewater was correlated with the daily number of reported cases and reached two pandemic peaks three days earlier during the study period. in addition, two different methods were established to estimate the prevalence/incidence rates from wastewater measurements. The estimated results from wastewater were consistent with findings from two independent citywide clinical surveillance programmes(rapid antigen test（RAT） surveillance and serology surveillance), but higher than the cases number reported by the Centre for Health Protection（CHP） of Hong kong, China. Moreover, the effective reproductive number（R_t） was estimated from wastewater measurements to reflect both citywide and regional transmission dynamics. Our findings demonstrate that large-scale intensive WWS from WWTPs provides cost-effective and timely public health information, especially when the clinical surveillance is inadequate and costly. This approach also provides insights into pandemic dynamics at higher spatiotemporal resolutions, facilitating the formulation of effective control policies and targeted resource allocation.

With the increasing demand for homoallylic silanes and allylic silanes,the highly efficient and regioselective hydrosilylations of conjugated dienes are urgently ***,we developed a Ni-catalyzed regiodivergent hydrosilylation of aromatic conjugated dienes by adjusting the temperature and *** low temperature(-30℃),an eternal-ligand-free system(Ni/t-BuOk)can efficiently facilitate the 3,4-anti-Markovnikov hydrosilylation to provide homoallylic silanes via electrophilic activation process;under room temperature(25℃),a ligand-controlled system(Ni/t-BuOk/PPh3)can eventuate the 3,4-Markovnikov hydrosilylation to produce allylic silanes via Chalk-Harrod *** systems are compatible with various conjugated dienes and primary silanes in excellent yields andregioselectivities.

Analysis of cost effective pavement treatment and budget optimization for arterial roads in the city of Chattanooga

Many transportation agencies lack sufficient funds to maintain and repair roads, which results into increased pavement maintenance cost. Pavement Management System （PMS） has demonstrated to be an essential tool for proper management of infrastructure and proper utilization of available funds. The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga utilized Micropaver software as PMS tool to conduct a pavement management analysis of principal arterials in the City of Chattanooga. The study used the City of Chattanooga pavement database to create the current and future pavement conditions. Maintenance and repair （M＆R） planning analysis was also performed in order to determine the most cost-effective treatment and suggest the optimum utilization of funds for the city. An analysis of five budget scenarios was conducted for a five-year plan using the critical pavement condition index （PCi） method （ASTM D6433）. Results show that the backlog elimination budget would be the best scenario because it increases the pavement condition and eliminates the backlog of major maintenance and repairs over the five-year period. The unlimited budget seems though ideal, it does not improve pavement condition. Maintaining current condition and limited budget scenarios would increase both the backlog and the total cost of maintenance and repairs over the analysis period.

This review article summarizes the new research in solid-state physical chemistry understanding of the microstructure characteristics of semiconductor tin oxide thin films made in the last years in our group. The work mainly focuses on the fabrication technology of semiconductor tin oxides thin films by using pulsed laser deposition （PLD） as well as the application of this technology on new micro- and nanostructured materials. it is an interdisciplinary work that integrates the areas of physics, chemistry and materials science.

SHRiMP U-Pb Zircon Dating of the Tula Granite Pluton on the South Side of the Altun Fault and its Geological implications

The Tula A2-subtype granite pluton is located between the Altun fault and its branching fault. According to the geological, geochemical, REE and trace elements characteristics, it belongs to the A2 （PA） subtype granite. The SHRiMP U-Pb zircon dating gives a result of 385.2±8.1 Ma, which is located between the Middle and Late Devonian in the international stratigraphic chart, and can be regarded as the crystallization age of the Tula granite. The study indicates that the Tula area was in a local extensional environment in the end of the Middle Devonian, and that environment was probably related to the synchronized strike-slip activity of the Altun fault.
