Wastewater surveillance（WWS） can leverage its wide coverage, population-based sampling, and high monitoring frequency to capture citywide pandemic trends independent of clinical surveillance. Here we conducted a nine months daily WWS for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2（SARS-CoV-2） from 12 wastewater treatment plants（WWTPs）, covering approximately 80% of the population,to monitor infection dynamics in Hong Kong, China. We found that the SARS-CoV-2 virus concentration in wastewater was correlated with the daily number of reported cases and reached two pandemic peaks three days earlier during the study period. In addition, two different methods were established to estimate the prevalence/incidence rates from wastewater measurements. The estimated results from wastewater were consistent with findings from two independent citywide clinical surveillance programmes(rapid antigen test（RAT） surveillance and serology surveillance), but higher than the cases number reported by the Centre for Health Protection（CHP） of Hong Kong, China. Moreover, the effective reproductive number（R_t） was estimated from wastewater measurements to reflect both citywide and regional transmission dynamics. Our findings demonstrate that large-scale intensive WWS from WWTPs provides cost-effective and timely public health information, especially when the clinical surveillance is inadequate and costly. This approach also provides insights into pandemic dynamics at higher spatiotemporal resolutions, facilitating the formulation of effective control policies and targeted resource allocation.

Extracellular vesicles(EVs)have been identified as promising biomarkers for the noninvasive diagnosis of various ***,challenges in separating EVs from soluble proteins have resulted in variable EV recovery rates and low ***,we report a high-yield(>90%)and rapid(<10 min)EV isolation method called FLocculation via Orbital Acoustic Trapping(FLOAT).The FLOAT approach utilizes an acoustofluidic droplet centrifuge to rotate and controllably heat liquid *** adding a thermoresponsive polymer flocculant,nanoparticles as small as 20 nm can be rapidly and selectively concentrated at the center of the *** demonstrate the ability of FLOAT to separate urinary EVs from the highly abundant Tamm-Horsfall protein,addressing a significant obstacle in the development of EV-based liquid *** to its high-yield nature,FLOAT reduces biofluid starting volume requirements by a factor of 100(from 20 mL to 200µL),demonstrating its promising potential in point-of-care diagnostics.

With the increasing demand for homoallylic silanes and allylic silanes,the highly efficient and regioselective hydrosilylations of conjugated dienes are urgently ***,we developed a Ni-catalyzed regiodivergent hydrosilylation of aromatic conjugated dienes by adjusting the temperature and *** low temperature(-30℃),an eternal-ligand-free system(Ni/t-BuOk)can efficiently facilitate the 3,4-anti-Markovnikov hydrosilylation to provide homoallylic silanes via electrophilic activation process;under room temperature(25℃),a ligand-controlled system(Ni/t-BuOk/PPh3)can eventuate the 3,4-Markovnikov hydrosilylation to produce allylic silanes via Chalk-Harrod *** systems are compatible with various conjugated dienes and primary silanes in excellent yields andregioselectivities.

In the early 20th century,numerous western botanists,often referred to as‘plant hunters’,embarked on ambitious expeditions to China,playing a crucial role in the study of botany and botanical *** their contributions,comprehensive assessments of their explorations are *** bridge this gap,this article focuses on the work of joseph Charles Francis Rock,a notable figure in that *** work revisits Rock’s botanical expeditions within the broader context of botanical diversity *** outlines his historical experiences in collecting plants in China and enumerates the species composition and phenotypic traits of the plants he ***,it also analyzes the spatial distribution of the species,the completeness of his collection and the α-and β-diversity of the plants he *** findings reveal that Rock led four major botanical expeditions in China between 1922 and 1933,amassing a total of 28184 sheets and 16608 numbers across 204 families,1081 genera and 4231 *** focus was predominantly on ornamental species,which exhibit a variety of flower colors and *** collection work spanned 5 provinces,35 cities and 72 counties,with a notable concentration in the Hengduan Mountains,a current biodiversity *** study not only reconstructs Rock’s botanical legacy but also offers valuable historical data and fresh analytical insights for understanding contemporary plant *** contributes to the ongoing discourse on the importance of preserving plant diversity as a cornerstone of environmental sustainability.

目的探讨当归黄芪胶囊是否通过磷脂酰肌醇3-激酶(PI3K)/蛋白激酶B(Akt)/西罗莫司靶蛋白(mTOR)信号通路调控心力衰竭大鼠心肌的自噬。方法用2.5 mg·kg^(-1)阿霉素腹腔注射构建心力衰竭大鼠模型,另取8只为空白组。将造模成功的大鼠随机分为模型组、对照组和低、中、高剂量实验组。对照组给予腹腔注射30 mg·kg^(-1)的3-甲基腺嘌呤;低、中、高剂量实验组分别灌胃给予150、300、450 mg·kg^(-1)的当归黄芪胶囊;空白组及模型组均灌胃给予等量无菌蒸馏水。6组大鼠每天给药1次,持续6周。用超声多普勒检测心功能,用蛋白印迹法检测心肌组织中PI3K、Akt、mTOR、选择性自噬接头蛋白(P62)、微管相关轻链蛋白3Ⅱ/Ⅰ(LC3Ⅱ/Ⅰ)的表达水平。结果空白组、模型组、对照组和高剂量实验组的左心室射血分数分别为(85.00±3.63)%、(56.75±4.83)%、(75.63±3.70)%和(72.75±4.23)%,PI3K相对表达水平分别为1.00±0、0.28±0.05、0.64±0.08和0.74±0.16,磷酸化Akt/Akt分别为1.00±0、0.49±0.06、0.90±0.16和0.95±0.10,磷酸化mTOR/mTOR分别为1.00±0、0.42±0.09、0.73±0.13和0.83±0.08,P62相对表达水平分别为1.00±0、0.24±0.12、0.57±0.09和0.96±0.10,LC3Ⅱ/Ⅰ相对表达水平分别为1.00±0、4.31±0.75、2.20±0.76和1.59±0.24。与模型组比较,高剂量实验组和对照组的上述指标在统计学上差异均有统计学意义(均P<0.05)。结论当归黄芪胶囊能通过调控PI3K/Akt/mTOR通路,抑制心力衰竭大鼠心肌的自噬,从而改善大鼠的心功能。

Analysis of cost effective pavement treatment and budget optimization for arterial roads in the city of Chattanooga

Many transportation agencies lack sufficient funds to maintain and repair roads, which results into increased pavement maintenance cost. Pavement Management System （PMS） has demonstrated to be an essential tool for proper management of infrastructure and proper utilization of available funds. The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga utilized Micropaver software as PMS tool to conduct a pavement management analysis of principal arterials in the City of Chattanooga. The study used the City of Chattanooga pavement database to create the current and future pavement conditions. Maintenance and repair （M＆R） planning analysis was also performed in order to determine the most cost-effective treatment and suggest the optimum utilization of funds for the city. An analysis of five budget scenarios was conducted for a five-year plan using the critical pavement condition index （PCI） method （ASTM D6433）. Results show that the backlog elimination budget would be the best scenario because it increases the pavement condition and eliminates the backlog of major maintenance and repairs over the five-year period. The unlimited budget seems though ideal, it does not improve pavement condition. Maintaining current condition and limited budget scenarios would increase both the backlog and the total cost of maintenance and repairs over the analysis period.
