本文主要介绍了2001年9月11日世界贸易中心(WTC)被攻击之后在各学科领域的环境特征研究结果。文中提交的信息被世界贸易中心应急小组在2001年9月18日(热点信息)和2001年9月27日(制图和组成成分结果研究)使用。实验数据由喷气推进实验室/美国航空航天局(JPL/NASA)于2001年9月16、18、22、23日在世界贸易中心(WTC)通过机载可见光/红外成像光谱仪(AVIRIS)的高光谱遥感仪器获得。2001年9月17日和18日晚上,由两人组成的美国地质勘探局小组在世界贸易中心方圆1km之内收集了超过35个位置点的粉尘和空降碎片样品,其中为了避免受9月14日的暴雨影响选择了两个室内样本收集点,另外还收集到了两个有钢梁涂层的世贸残骸样品。美国地质勘探局地面工作人员在白天进行了实地反射光谱测量,用于现场校准AVIRIS遥感数据。AVIRIS数据的辐射定标和校正工作在喷气推进实验室/美国航空航天局(JPL/NASA)完成;表面反射率校准、光谱测图和解译工作在位于丹佛市的美国地质调查局成像光谱实验室完成;灰尘/碎屑和钢梁涂层样品的各种矿物学和化学参数的分析工作,在位于科罗拉多州丹佛市的美国地质调查局实验室完成,分析中使用了反射光谱法(RS)、扫描电子显微镜检查法(SEM)以及X射线衍射法(XRD)等。通过分析研究得出以下几个重要结论:(1)世贸中心大楼倒塌释放的粉尘主要有:玻璃纤维、石膏、混凝土、纸张以及其他建筑施工中常用的混合材料。(2)在实验室用RS、SEM和XRD方法分析发现,在三分之二以上的灰尘和空降碎片样本中只检测到微量的温石棉(小于总重量的1%),而到目前为止在所有粉尘样品中还没有检测到角闪石类石棉矿物。(3)对钢梁涂层样品分析发现,在世贸中心碎片中检测到的温石棉(蛇纹石矿物)占涂层材料总体积的比例高达20%,同样在这些钢梁涂层样品中也没有检测到角闪石类石棉矿物。(4)在地面仪器低百分比检测的限制下,AVIRIS矿物图主要是用来检测可能存在的石棉状矿物,图中并没有显示温石棉或闪石类石棉的大范围分布。从图中的孤立像素点或像素群(像素大小约2m×2m)可以看出,世贸中心周围地区的石棉状矿物含量变化范围大,从百分之几到百分之几十都有可能。由于AVIRIS数据中的某些光谱吸收强度和温石棉钢梁涂层的光谱相似,因此吸收特征图只显示出了蛇纹石矿物的存在,而不能说明蛇纹石是石棉状的,因为非石棉状蛇纹石矿物在建筑材料中也是非常常见的。AVIRIS矿物图可以显示含石棉量较高的区域和小范围非石棉状矿物的区域,但需要通过现场采样和实验分析来验证石棉的存在。另外,AVIRIS矿物图只能检测地表矿物,而不能检测地下掩埋的矿物。(5)AVIRIS矿物图中角闪石类矿物是几个孤立像素点,而不是像温石棉那样的像素群。少数几个世贸中心地区的角闪石像素点和整个城市的角闪石像素统计噪声水平相似。AVIRIS吸收特征图只显示了角闪石矿物的存在,而这些在非石棉状建筑材料中也是非常常见的,所以需要进行现场采样来确认石棉的存在。野外样品的实验室分析结果与矿物图上的蛇纹石温石棉和角闪石矿物是一致的。(6)实验分析和AVIRIS矿物图结果表明,无论是小尺度的个别样品,还是世贸中心一定方向和距离范围的大空间尺度,粉尘的成分都是多变的。通过对同一样品多次重复进行矿物学和化学物质分析发现,多变性可能是因为粉尘是由不同材料的不均匀混合造成的,这种空间差异是在几十米的大尺度到厘米甚至更小尺度范围下观测到的。AVIRIS矿物图还显示了位于东南偏南的2号大楼倒塌中心的物质铁含量较高,温石棉的分布主要(但并不唯一)呈向西和北方向不连续的放射状,也可能分布在超过世贸大厦遗址四分之三公里的东方向。(7)迄今为止,在粉尘和空降样品中只检测到微量的温石棉,但在有钢梁涂层的世贸中心碎片中温石棉含量达到总体积的20%之多,而且AVIRIS矿物图中温石棉可能存在的区域也表明在局部点可能发现石棉。(8)2001年9月16日收集到的AVIRIS数据显示,世贸中心大楼倒塌区域有若干热点存在,在核心区就有超过36个不同大小和温度的热点。分析数据发现,这些热点的温度都高于800°F,有些甚至超过了1300°F。截止到9月23日,从飞机上观察到的火灾点大部分已经消除或者减弱。(9)我们通过实验发现的灰尘样品有微量石棉的结论与美国环保署(***)进行的其他研究结果一致。我们的研究结果也进一步说明:①高含量石棉可能存在于钢梁涂层和AVIRIS矿物图中显示的局部区域;②粉尘和钢梁涂层中的石棉只含有温石棉,而不含有角闪石类石棉。根据毒理学专家、流行病学专家和矿物学专家近20年分析研究的主要成果表明,闪石类石棉矿物比温石棉更易致癌(Ross,1999;Skinner等,1988;Van Oss等,19

Background： Most intronic lariats are rapidly turned over after splicing. However, new research suggests that some introns may have additional post-splicing functions. Current bioinformatics methods used to identify lariats require a sequencing read that traverses the lariat branchpoint. This method provides precise branchpoint sequence and position information, but is limited in its ability to quantify abundance of stabilized lariat species in a given RNAseq sample. Bioinformatic tools are needed to better address these emerging biological questions. Methods： We used an unsupervised machine learning approach on sequencing reads from publicly available ENCODE data to learn to identify and quantify lariats based on RNAseq read coverage shape. Results： We developed ShapeShifter, a novel approach for identifying and quantifying stable lariat species in RNAseq datasets. We learned a characteristic ＂lariat＂ curve from ENCODE RNAseq data and were able to estimate abundances for introns based on read coverage. Using this method we discovered new stable introns in these samples that were not represented using the older, branchpoint-traversing read method. Conclusions： ShapeShifter provides a robust approach towards detecting and quantifying stable lariat species.

AIM To investigate the importance of a three-tiered histologic grade on outcomes for patients with mucinous appendiceal adenocarcinoma(MAA).METHODS Two hundred and sixty-five patients with MAA undergoing cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy were identified from a prospective database from 2004 through 2014. All pathology was reviewed by our gastrointestinal subspecialty pathologists and histological grade was classified as well-differentiated, moderately differentiated, and poorly differentiated. Survival analysis was performed using Cox proportional hazards *** There were 201(75.8%) well-, 45(16.9%) moderatelyand 19(7.2%) poorly-differentiated tumors. Histological grade significantly stratified the 5-year overall survival(OS), 94%, 71% and 30% respectively(P < 0.001) as well as the 5-year disease-free survival(DFS) 66%, 21% and 0%, respectively(P < 0.001). Independent predictors of DFS included tumor grade(HR = 1.78, 95%CI: 1.21-2.63, P = 0.008), lymph node involvement(HR = 0.33, 95%CI: 0.11-0.98, P < 0.02), previous surgical score(HR = 1.31, 95%CI: 1.1-1.65, P = 0.03) and peritoneal carcinomatosis index(PCI)(HR = 1.05, 95%CI: 1.02-1.08, P = 0.002). Independent predictors of OS include tumor grade(HR = 2.79, 95%CI: 1.26-6.21, P = 0.01), PCI(HR = 1.10, 95%CI: 1.03-1.16, P = 0.002), and complete cytoreduction(HR = 0.32, 95%CI: 0.11-0.92, P = 0.03). Tumor grade and PCI were the only independent predictors of both DFS and OS. Furthermore, histological grade and lymphovascular invasion stratified the risk of lymph node metastasis into a low(6%) and high(40%) risk groups. CONCLUSION Our data demonstrates that moderately differentiated MAA have a clinical behavior and outcome that is distinct from well-and poorly-differentiated MAA. The threetier grade classification provides improved prognostic stratification and should be incorporated into patient selection and treatment algorithms.
