Five randomized t.eadmill t.ials were performed wit.: no fluid replacement.(NF), 100% (100 ICE) and 50% (50 ICE) sweat.loss replaced wit. ice-slurry (~-1°C) solut.on and 100% (100 LIQ) and 50% (50 LIQ) sweat.loss replaced wit. liquid (~+4°C) solut.on. t.me t. exhaust.on was longer in 100 ICE followed b. 100 LIQ, 50 ICE, 50 LIQ and NF. Change in rect.l t.mperat.re was least.in 100 ICE followed b. 100 LIQ, 50 ICE, 50 LIQ and NF. Ingest.on of ice-slurry result.d in longer t.me t. exhaust.on and slower rat.s of change in rect.l t.mperat.re. It.is recommended t.at.ice-slurry drinks b. provided t. personnel t. lower heat.st.ain during hot.working condit.ons.

Lump samples from nat.ral hemat.t. iron ore were reduced b. a gas mixt.re of H2 and CO (H2/CO =1.5) at.t.mperat.res of 700°C, 800°C and 900°C. t.e effect.of reduct.on t.mperat.re on t.e reduct.on degree, reduct.on rat. of samples and carb.n deposit.on were invest.gat.d and discussed in t.is st.dy. t.e t.ermo-gravimet.ic dat. ob.0}ined from t.e reduct.on experiment. was run in a programme t.at.calculat.s t.e solid conversion rat.. Also, t.ree models: 1) Grain Model (GM), 2) Volumet.ic Model (VM), and 3) t.e Random Pore Model (RPM), were used t. est.mat. t.e reduct.on kinet.cs of nat.ral iron ores. INt.ODUCt.ON: Rest.ng ischemic elect.ocardiographic ab.ormalit.es have b.en associat.d wit. cardio-vascular mort.lit.. Simple markers of ab.ormal aut.nomic t.ne have also b.en associat.d wit. diab.t.s, ob.sit., and t.e met.b.lic syndrome in some populat.ons. Dat. on t.ese elect.ocardiographic ab.ormalit.es and correlat.ons wit. coronary risk fact.rs are lacking among Mexican Americans wherein t.ese condit.ons are prevalent. t.is st.dy aimed t. evaluat. t.e prevalent.rest.ng elect.ocardiographic ab.ormalit.es among communit.-dwelling Mexican Americans, and t. correlat. t.ese findings wit. coronary risk fact.rs, part.cularly diab.t.s, ob.sit., and t.e met.b.lic syndrome. MEt.ODS: St.dy sub.ect. (n = 1280) were drawn from t.e Cameron Count. Hispanic Cohort.comprised of communit.-dwelling Mexican Americans living in b.ownsville, t.xas at.t.e Unit.d St.t.s-Mexico b.rder. Ischemic elect.o-cardiographic ab.ormalit.es were defined as presence of St.t.wave ab.ormalit.es suggest.ve of ischemia, ab.ormal Q waves, and left.b.ndle b.anch b.ock. Paramet.rs t.at.reflect.aut.nomic t.ne, such as heart.rat.-correct.d Qt.int.rval and rest.ng heart.rat., were also measured. RESULt.: Ischemic elect.ocar-diographic ab.ormalit.es were more prevalent.among older persons and t.ose wit. hypert.nsion, diab.t.s, ob.sit., and t.e met.b.lic syndrome. Sub.ect. in t.e highest.quart.les of Qt. int.rval and rest.ng heart.rat. were also more likely t. have diab.t.s, hypert.nsion, ob.sit., or t.e met.b.lic syndrome. CONCLU- SIONS: Among Mexican Americans, persons wit. diab.t.s, ob.sit., and t.e met.b.lic syndrome were more likely t. have ischemic elect.ocardiographic ab.ormalit.es, longer Qt. int.rvals, and higher rest.ng heart.rat.s. A rest.ng elect.ocardiogram can play a complement.ry role in t.e comprehensive evaluat.on of cardiovascular risk in t.is minorit. populat.on.
