Functional groups of sahelian trees in a semiarid agroforestry system of senegal

Aims Addressing plant responses to water stress is critical to understand the structure of plant communities in water-limited environments and to forecast their resilience to future changes in *** a semiarid agroforestry system in the sahelian savannah of Leona(senegal),we selected nine common tree species and explored their stress-resistance *** species represent a variety of life forms and are of high regional socio-economic *** hypothesized that different species would show different suites of traits to cope with water stress and expected to identify functional groups.differing in strategies to withstand water *** Along a dry and a wet season,we monitored four traits reflecting above-and below-ground strategies of resource acquisition such as predawn leaf water potential(ψpd),specific leaf area(sLA),leaf thickness and leaf area index(LAI).We also measured two mor-phological traits:trunk diameter and tree *** andψpd were measured six times during the dry and rainy seasons,and the other traits were measured *** Findings We identified two functional classes subdivided into two func-tional groups of each *** first class included deciduous and semi-deciduous species that generally had large sLA,low leaf thickness and small-to-intermediate inter-seasonal varia-tions inψ*** second class included evergreen species of two functional groups that differ in sLA,leaf thickness and the mag-nitude of inter-seasonal variations ofψpd throughout the *** four functional groups identified in this study represent plant strategies.differing in their response to changing environmental conditions.

While chronic hyperglycaemia resulting from poorly controlled diabetes mellitus(Dm)is a well-known precursor to complications such as.diabetic retinopathy,neuropathy(including autonomic neuropathy),and nephropathy,a paradoxical intensification of these complications can rarely occur with aggressive glycemic management resulting in a rapid reduction of glycated ***,acute onset or worsening of retinopathy and treatment induced neuropathy of diabetes are more common among these complications,rarely other problems such as albuminuria,diabetic kidney disease,Charcot’s neuroarthropathy,gastroparesis,and urinary bladder dysfunction are also *** World Journal of diabetes recently published a rare case of all these complications,occurring in a young type 1 diabetic female intensely managed during pregnancy,as a case report by Huret et *** is essential to have a comprehensive understanding of the pathobiology,prevalence,predisposing factors,and management strategies for acute onset,or worsening of microvascular complications when rapid glycemic control is achieved,which serves to alleviate patient morbidity,enhance disease management compliance,and possibly to avoid medico-legal issues around this rare clinical *** editorial delves into the dynamics surrounding the acute exacerbation of microvascular complications in poorly controlled Dm during rapid glycaemic control.

Ultrafast 3D imaging is indispensable for visualizing complex and dynamic biological *** scanning-based techniques necessitate an inherent trade-off between acquisition speed and space-bandwidth product(sBP).Emerging single-shot 3D wide-field techniques offer a promising alternative but are bottlenecked by the synchronous readout constraints of conventional CmOs systems,thus restricting data throughput to maintain high sBP at limited frame *** address this,we introduce EventLFm,a straightforward and cost-effective system that overcomes these challenges by integrating an event camera with Fourier light field microscopy(LFm),a state-of-theart single-shot 3D wide-field imaging *** event camera operates on a novel asynchronous readout architecture,thereby bypassing the frame rate limitations inherent to conventional CmOs *** further develop a simple and robust event-driven LFm reconstruction algorithm that can reliably reconstruct 3D dynamics from the unique spatiotemporal measurements captured by *** results demonstrate that EventLFm can robustly reconstruct fast-moving and rapidly blinking 3D fluorescent samples at kHz frame ***,we highlight EventLFm’s capability for imaging of blinking neuronal signals in scattering mouse brain tissues and 3D tracking of GFP-labeled neurons in freely moving *** believe that the combined ultrafast speed and large 3D sBP offered by EventLFm may open up new possibilities across many biomedical applications.

spontaneous Tumor Lysis syndrome secondary to Iatrogenic Acute Kidney Injury: A Case Report

spontaneous Tumor Lysis syndrome (sTLs) is a rare oncologic condition caused by the breakdown of neoplastic tissue in the absence of traditional anti-tumor therapy. It is postulated that cancers with rapidly dividing cells lead to increased cell turnover which exceeds the kidneys’ ability to adequately filtrate by-products of cellular breakdown (i.e., phosphate, potassium, anduric acid), leading to end organ damage. It has been reported in the past that kidney failure is a sequelae of Tumor Lysis syndrome (TLs), but there have been no reports that demonstrate acute kidney injury (AKI) preceding TLs. The case presented here demonstrates TLs in a patient with no formal cancer diagnosis, who had received no chemotherapy or radiation that was precipitated by an iatrogenic AKI with chlorthalidone and ibuprofen. This unusual pattern of AKI preceding sTLs may provide insight into the pathophysiology of the condition and could possibly lead to greater understanding of this phenomenon.

Irrigation and Thermal Buffering Using mathematical modeling

Two methods of irrigation,drip,and sprinkler were studied to determine the response of the Javits green roof to *** control study was dry unirrigated *** irrigation consisted of irrigation tubes running through the green roof that would water the soil throughout and sprinkler irrigation used a sprinkler system to irrigate the green roof from *** all cases,the irrigated roofs had increased the soil moisture,reduced temperatures of both the upper and lower surfaces,reduced growing medium temperatures and reduced air temperatures above the green roof relative to the unirrigated *** buffered temperature fluctuations were also studied via air conditioner energy *** was a 28%reduction in air conditioner energy consumption and a 33%reduction in overall energy consumption between dry and irrigated *** of thermal resistance or s were determined for accuracy and for this study,there was little change which is ideal.A series of infra-red and thermal probe measurements were used to determine temperatures in the air and *** was determined that the sprinkler irrigation did a better job than the drip irrigation in keeping cooler temperatures within the green roof.A mann-Whitney U test was performed to verify the variation in moisture temperatures buffering energy *** getting a p-valuedicates that the model is accurate for prediction and medium temperatures were statistically different.

Community-Based Hepatitis B Campaign in Asian Americans

Chronic hepatitis B (CHB) disproportionately affects minority groups in the Us, particularly Asian Americans, with numerous factors contributing to this.disparity. Of the 2.4 million people living with chronic HBV in the Us, 60% are Asian American. many are unaware of their status and lack access to proper clinical care, with less than ten percent receiving necessary antiviral treatment. Barriers to screening and care include lack of disease awareness, language and cultural barriers, and financial constraints. Additionally, healthcare providers and systems in the Us often overlook the importance of CHB, leading to inadequate care. In response, the Center for Viral Hepatitis (CVH) has implemented a community-based outreach program over the past sixteen years, employing a multifaceted approach involving all sectors of society and various organizations to combat health disparities in CHB. This grassroots campaign has proven highly effective, leveraging CVH’s leadership in spearheading numerous collaborative activities with community members, healthcare professionals, and policymakers. We have summarized the key points of CVH's efforts and their significance in combating CHB-related health disparities. The CHB screening and Awareness Campaign, tailored to the Asian American community, serves as a successful model for increasing CHB screening, linkage-to-care, and addressing socio-cultural barriers and health literacy. Insights from these outreach programs have guided the development of culturally relevant resources and education initiatives. These findings suggest that such community-driven approaches are essential for addressing health disparities. The strategies and outcomes of CVH’s efforts can inform future health initiatives for other minority communities in the Us and globally.
