The Belt and Road Initiative(BRI)is a central policy within China’s regional development and foreign trade *** trade has typically depended on economic valuation of resources,while the embedded environmental value is rarely *** situation exists in most BRI trade *** address BRI environmental sustainability issues,we consider the role of pivotal Chinese provinces and their key trade partners(ASEAN countries)as an illustration for the environmental value of resource *** accounting is used as the valuation tool for a sample period of seventeen *** results include:(1)Emergy valuations show sustainability of sample provinces decreased over time;(2)ASEAN countries such as Indonesia,Malaysia,Singapore,Thailand,and Vietnam play significant resource roles for provincial economic systems;(3)Diverse trends in trade between pivotal provinces and ASEAN countries resulted in an unbalanced trade structure from *** implications are proposed to promote a more globally sustainable and fair trade using BRI as an established trade policy.

Many aspects of the Late Ordovician Mass Extinction(LOME)aftermath and recovery have been puzzling due to heterogeneities in tempo and triggering *** fossil groups,which are the most severely affected by oxidative stress,offer the best opportunities for understanding both biological and ecological recovery after the *** recent studies,deep-water sponge assemblages(which may have had high physiological tolerance to oxygen deviations)have been reported widely across South China in the immediate aftermath of the extinction *** order to further explore the lateral and temporal distributions of sponges,and ecological effects of benthic recovery during this critical interval,this study presents new Llandovery sponge assemblages recovered from two sections in Hunan Province,South China,accompanied by geochemical *** sponge communities are preserved by pyritic spicule replacements and shows a relatively deep-water affinity(estimated around 60-150 m in depth)comparable to several previously reported assemblages in South China,and consistent with the observed graptolite *** analysis of total organic carbon(TOC)and major and trace element composition in both sections show similar trends,indicating a shift in redox state of the bottom-water from persistent anoxia or intermittent euxinia in the earliest Rhuddanian,becoming oxygenated in the early *** on the present study and previous biological and geochemical data from South China,the distribution of early Silurian sponge assemblages in South China demonstrates a gradual expansion towards deeper regions when ocean redox conditions *** study confirms the continuity of the end-Ordovician sponge faunas and taxa,both laterally across South China,and temporally through the early *** pioneering colonization of sponges in low-oxygen environments after the LOME may have set the stage for the subsequent recovery of other benthic organisms.

Autonomously self-propelled nanoswimmers represent the nextgeneration nano-devices for bio-and environmental ***,current nanoswimmers generate limited energy output and can only move in short distances and duration,thus are struggling to be applied in practical challenges,such as living cell ***,we describe the construction of biodegradable metal-organic framework based nanobots with chemically driven buoyancy to achieve highly efficient,long-distance,directional vertical motion to“find-and-fetch”target *** surface-functionalized with antibodies against the cell surface marker carcinoembryonic antigen are exploited to impart the nanobots with specific cell targeting capacity to recognize and separate cancer *** demonstrate that the self-propelled motility of the nanobots can sufficiently transport the recognized cells autonomously,and the separated cells can be easily collected with a customized glass column,and finally regain their full metabolic potential after the *** utilization of nanobots with easy synthetic pathway shows considerable promise in cell recognition,separation,and enrichment.

Numerical simulation of stepped channel flow was conducted using turbulence models based on the VOF technique. Stepped channel flow is a complicated air-water two-phase flow with free surface, which can be divided into three flow regimes： skimming flow, nappe flow and transition flow. The characteristics of skimming flow over mild stepped channel was investigated, including friction factors, air concentration profiles velocity field, clear-water and bulked depths, static pressure, etc. Smooth channel flow was also simulated to compare the hydraulic characteristics of the stepped channel flow with the smooth one. Comparisons between the computed and the measured were made. Furthermore, comparison of the computed air concentration with Straub and Anderson＇s data was also performed. The Fluent 6.1 software was employed to conduct this numerical simulation work.

Information from the brain travels back and forth along peripheral nerves in the form of electrical impulses generated by neurons and these impulses have repetitive patterns. Schwann cells in peripheral nerves receive molecular signals from axons to coordinate the process of myelination. There is evidence, however,that non-molecular signals play an important role in myelination in the form of patterned electrical impulses generated by neuronal activity. The role of patterned electrical impulses has been investigated in the literature using co-cultures of neurons and myelinating cells. The co-culturing method, however, prevents the uncoupling of the direct effect of patterned electrical impulses on myelinating cells from the indirect effect mediated by neurons. To uncouple these effects and focus on the direct response of Schwann cells,we developed an in vitro model where an electroconductive carbon fiber acts as an artificial axon. The fiber provides only the biophysical characteristics of an axon but does not contribute any molecular *** our "suspended wire model", the carbon fiber is suspended in a liquid media supported by a 3D printed scaffold. Patterned electrical impulses are generated by an Arduino 101 microcontroller. In this study, we describe the technology needed to set-up and eventually replicate this model. We also report on our initial in vitro tests where we were able to document the adherence and ensheath of human Schwann cells to the carbon fiber in the presence of patterned electrical impulses(hSCs were purchased from ScienCell Research Laboratories, Carlsbad, CA, USA; ScienCell fulfills the ethic requirements, including donor's consent). This technology will likely make feasible to investigate the response of Schwann cells to patterned electrical impulses in the future.

Background: Nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC) is a commonly diagnosed cancer in Southeast Asia. Many studies have examined the risk factors for NPC, yet the roles of some risk factors remain inconclusive. The purpose of this study was to examine associations between modifiable lifestyle factors and the risk of NPC in the Singaporean ***: We conducted a case–control study in Singapore with 300 patients and 310 controls who were recruited between 2008 and 2012. Each control was selected and individually matched to each patient based on sex, ethnicity, and age(±5 years). A total of 290 pairs of cases and controls were matched successfully. We examined lifestyle factors such as tobacco smoking, alcohol drinking, various salted and preserved food consumption, and weaning ***: After adjusting for covariates, multivariate analysis showed that those participants who were current smokers and had ever smoked tobacco had a higher risk of NPC than participants who had never smoked, with odds ratios(ORs) of 4.50(95% confidence interval [CI] 2.58–7.86; P < 0.001) and 2.52(95% CI 1.54–4.12; P < 0.001), respectively. Those who consumed salted vegetables at least once a week also showed a significantly increased risk of NPC than those who never or rarely consumed salted vegetables, with an OR of 4.18(95% CI 1.69–10.38; P = 0.002).Conclusion: Smoking(currently and ever-smoked) and consuming salted vegetables once a week or more were lifestyle risk factors for NPC, and changes of these factors for the better may reduce the risk of NPC.

BACKGROUND:Penehyclidine is a newly developed anticholinergic *** aimed to investigate the role of penehyclidine in acute organophosphorus pesticide poisoning(OP)***:We searched the Pubmed,Cochrane library,EMBASE,Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI),Chinese Biomedical literature(CBM)and Wanfang *** controlled trials(RCTs)recruiting acute OP patients were identifi ed for *** outcomes included cure rate,mortality rate,time to atropinization,time to 60%normal acetylcholinesterase(AchE)level,rate of intermediate syndrome(IMS)and rate of adverse drug reactions(ADR).RESULTS:Sixteen RCTs involving 1,334 patients were identifi *** with the atropineor penehyclidine-alone groups,atropine combined with penehyclidine significantly increased the cure rate(penehyclidine+atropine ***,0.97 vs.0.86,RR 1.13,95%CI[1.07–1.19];penehyclidine+atropine ***,0.93 vs.0.80,RR 1.08,95%CI[1.01–1.15])and reduced the mortality rate(penehyclidine+atropine ***,0.015 vs.0.11,RR 0.17,95%CI[0.06–0.49];penehyclidine+atropine ***,0.13 vs.0.08,RR 0.23,95%CI[0.04–1.28]).Atropine combined with penehyclidine in OP patients also helped reduce the time to atropinization and AchE recovery,the rate of IMS and the rate of *** with a single dose of atropine,a single dose of penehyclidine also signifi cantly elevated the cure rate,reduced times to atropinization,AchE recovery,and rate of ***:Atropine combined with penehyclidine benefi ts OP patients by enhancing the cure rate,mortality rate,time to atropinization,AchE recovery,IMS rate,total ADR and duration of *** combined with atropine is likely a better initial therapy for OP patients than atropine alone.
