Traditional medicinal practices have a profound influence on the daily lives of people living in developing countries,particularly in Africa,since the populations cannot generally afford the cost of Western *** have undertaken to investigate the correlation between the uses of plants in Traditional African medicine and the biological activities of the derived natural products,with the aim to validate the use of traditional medicine in northern African *** literature is covered for the period 1959-2015 and part III of this review series focuses on plant families with names beginning with letters T to *** authors have focused on curating data from journals in natural products and *** each journal home page,a query search based on country name was *** articles‘‘hits’’were then verified,one at a time,that the species was harvested within the northern African geographical *** current data partly constitutes the bases for the development of the northern African natural compounds *** review discusses 284 plant-based natural compounds from 34 species and 11 *** was observed that the ethnobotanical uses of less than 40%of the plant species surveyed correlated with the bioactivities of compounds identified.

The underwater X-ray imaging technology development is significant to subaqueous target reconnaissance/detection/identification, subfluvial archaeology,submerged resource exploration, etc. As the core of X-ray imaging detection, the scintillator has been plagued by inherent moisture absorption and decomposition, and strict requirements for seamless packaging and ***, we designed a manganese-doped two-dimensional(2D) perovskite scintillator modified by hydrophobic longchain organic amine through the combination of component and doping engineering. The modified perovskites show high water repellency that can be used as an underwater X-ray scintillator. X-ray images of aquatic organisms or other objects with a high spatial resolution of10 lp·mm^(-1) at a big view field(32 mm × 32 mm) were obtained by scintillation screen. This hydrophobic perovskite scintillator based on molecular design is of great promise in underwater X-ray nondestructive testing technology development.

Thermodynamic model for deoxidation of liquid steel considering strong metal-oxygen interaction in the quasichemical model framework

Herein,a thermodynamic model aimed at describing deoxidation equilibria in liquid steel was *** model provides explicit forms of the activity coefficient of solutes in liquid steel,eliminating the need for the minimization of internal Gibbs energy preliminarily when solving deoxidation *** elimination of internal Gibbs energy minimization is particularly advantageous during the coupling of deoxidation equilibrium calculations with computationally intensive approaches,such as computational fluid *** model enables efficient calculations through direct embedment of the explicit forms of activity coefficient in the computing *** proposed thermodynamic model was developed using a quasichemical approach with two key approximations:random mixing of metallic elements(Fe and oxidizing metal) and strong nonrandom pairing of metal and oxygen as nearest *** these approximations,the quasichemical approach yielded the activity coefficients of solutes as explicit functions of composition and temperature without requiring the minimization of internal Gibbs energy or the coupling of separate *** model was successfully applied in the calculation of deoxidation equilibria of various elements(Al,B,C,Ca,Ce,Cr,La,Mg,Mn,nb,Si,Ti,V,and Zr).The limitations of the model arising from these assumptions were also discussed.

We give necessary and sufficient conditions for an integral quadratic form over dyadic local fields to be n-universal by using invariants from Beli's theory of bases of norm ***, we provide a minimal set for testing n-universal quadratic forms over dyadic local fields, as an analogue of Bhargava and Hanke's 290-theorem(or Conway and Schneeberger's 15-theorem) on universal quadratic forms with integer coefficients.

Random Raman Fiber Laser as a Liquid Refractive Index Sensor

In this paper,a new concept of forward-pumped random Raman fiber laser(RRFL)-based liquid refractive index sensing is proposed for the first *** liquid refractive index sensing,the flat fiber end immersed in the liquid can act as the point reflector for generating random fiber lasing and also as the sensing *** to the high sensitivity of the output power of the RRFL to the reflectivity provided by the point reflector in the ultralow reflectivity regime,the proposed RRFL is capable of achieving liquid refractive index sensing by measuring the random lasing output *** theoretically investigate the effects of the operating pump power and fiber length on the refractive index sensitivity for the proposed *** a proof-of-concept demonstration,we experimentally realize high-sensitivity half-open short-cavity RRFL-based liquid refractive index sensing with the maximum sensitivity and the sensing resolution of-39.88W/RIU and 2.5075×10^(-5) RIU,*** also experimentally verify that the refractive index sensitivity can be enhanced with the shorter fiber length of the *** work extends the application of the random fiber laser as a new platform for highly-sensitive refractive index sensing in chemical,biomedical,and environmental monitoring applications,etc.
