Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are a heterogeneous group of neuro-developmental disorders that are among the most genetically heritable behavioral disorders.[1] ASD have attracted increasing attention from researchers and public-health agencies worldwide, particularly in Western high-income nations, where substantial increases in the prevalence of ASD have been reported since the 1990s, and where strong advocacy by families of persons with autism has resulted in increased funding for research into the causes of these devastating *** fewer data on ASD prevalence are available from Asia than from Europe and North ***, the report in the previous issue by Wan and colleagues,[2] of a comprehensive review and meta-analysis of prevalence estimates for ASD in China's Mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao, is a welcome contribution to the international *** results of the study, which focused on analyses of populations f age, highlight the urgent need for large methodologically rigorous studies of the prevalence of ASD in Han Chinese populations-an ethnic group that includes approximately 20% of the world's population.

fISH ASSEMBLAGE RESPONSES TO DIffERENT SECONDARY CHANNEL DESIGNS IN THE LOWER MISSISSIPPI RIVER,U.S.A.:A TEMPLATE fOR RIVER RESTORATION

The lower Mississippi River(LMR) has been heavily modified for multiple human purposes such as navigation, flood control, and bank stabilization. However, the LMR simultaneously supports a diverse fish fauna that includes recreational and commercial fisheries. Due to river training and diversion structures constructed during the past 80 years, the historic characteristics of the LMR have been drastically altered and have likely influenced fishes and fisheries in the system. One common restoration measure used throughout the LMR has been to "notch" wing-dike structures that close secondary(side) river channels. Dike notching allows year-round flows through secondary channels, which enhances habitat diversity and promotes biological productivity at the ecosystem scale. Although notching is presumed good for LMR fishes and other biota, few studies have examined its effects on fish assemblages. In this study, fish assemblages were sampled at seven LMR secondary channels spanning from river kilometer(rkm) 628(Louisiana-Mississippi, U.S.A.) upstream to rkm 1504(Missouri-Kentucky, U.S.A.). four secondary channels were termed "permanent"(i.e.,with notched dikes) while three secondary channels were termed "temporary"(i.e., without notched dikes).fishes were sampled by boat-mounted electrofishing conducted during falling and low stages from1995—1997. fish assemblages differed between permanent and temporary secondary channels, and varied somewhat between falling and low stages. Gizzard shad(Dorosoma cepedianum), threadfin shad(D. petenense), and white bass(Morone chrysops) demonstrated consistent preferences for low-current conditions associated with temporary secondary channels. Conversely, blue catfish(Ictalurus furcatus), flathead catfish(Pylodictis olivaris), and freshwater drum(Aplodinotus grunniens) were more associated with permanent secondary channels. future restoration strategies in the LMR should consider dike notching and resultant maintenance of permanent seconda

In recent years,hard carbon materials have gained significant interest as anode materials for Na-ion *** waste is considered one of the most interesting,renewable,available,and cost-effective precursor to obtain hard carbon(HC);however,HC properties must be finely tuned to achieve performance comparable to those provided by Li-ion *** this work,three biomass wastes(coconut shells,walnut shells,and corn silk) were evaluated as potential precursors for HC preparation involving a pyrolysis process and subsequent acid washing to remove the inorganic *** obtained materials exhibited low and similar specific surface areas(fferent structures and surface *** walnut shell HC possessed a lower amount of inorganic impurities and oxygen-based functional groups compared to the coconut shell and corn silk HCs,leading to higher initial coulombic efficiency(iCE).The structural organization was higher in the case of the walnut shell HC,while the corn silk HC revealed a heterogeneous structure combining both highly disordered carbon and localized graphitized *** HCs delivered high initial reversible capacities between 293 and 315 mAh g^(-1) at 50 mA g^(-1) current rate,which remained rather stable during long-term *** best capacity(293 mAh g^(-1) after 100 charge/discharge cycles) and highest capacity retention(93%) was achieved in walnut HCs in half-cells,which could be associated with its higher sp2 C content,better organized structure,and fewer *** "adsorption-insertion" Na storage mechanism is suggested based on several *** walnut HCs exhibited an attractive energy density of 279 Wh/kg when tested in full cells.

A novel trajectory-based online controller design approach to fault accommodation in NREL’s 5MW wind turbine systems

This paper presents a real-time mechanism to tolerate faults occurring in a wind turbine （WT） system. This system is composed of a fAST coded simulator designed by the U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory. The demonstrated mechanism lies under the taxonomy of active fault-tolerant control （fTC） systems, namely online redesign based approach. In the proposed approach, we do not use any a priori information about the model of the turbine in real-time. In fact, we use online measurements generated by the WT. Based on the given control specifications, and the observed measurement an occurred fault is accommodated by reconfiguring the online controller such that the WT generates rated power even under faulty conditions. Second, no explicit fault diagnosis （fD） module is used in this approach. As a result, issues of model uncertainty, false alarms, etc. associated with an integrated fD and controller reconfiguration approach to fTC systems are not experienced here.

Gut microbiota mediated molecular events and therapy in liver diseases

Gut microbiota is a community of microorganisms that reside in the gastrointestinaltract. An increasing number of studies has demonstrated that the gutliveraxis plays a critical role in liver homeostasis. Dysbiosis of gut microbiota cancause liver diseases, including nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and alcoholic liverdisease. Preclinical and clinical investigations have substantiated that themetabolites and other molecules derived from gut microbiota and diet interactionfunction as mediators to cause liver fibrosis, cirrhosis, and final cancer. This effecthas been demonstrated to be associated with dysregulation of intrahepaticimmunity and liver metabolism. Targeting these findings have led to thedevelopment of novel preventive and therapeutic strategies. Here, we review thecellular and molecular mechanisms underlying gut microbiota-mediated impacton liver disease. We also summarize the advancement of gut microbiota-basedtherapeutic strategies in the control of liver diseases.

Antioxidant defense system induced by cysteinestabilized peptide fraction of aqueous extract of Morinda lucida leaf in selected tissues of Plasmodium berghei-infected mice

OBJECTIVE： This study evaluated the responses of some antioxidant parameters in selected tissues of Plasmodium berghei-infected mice treated with cysteine-stabilized peptide fraction（CSPf） of aqueous extract of Morinda lucida ***：fifty-six mice were randomly divided into seven *** A（normal control）was uninfected and received 5%dimethyl sulfoxide（DMSO）.Mice in Groups B（negative control）,C,D,E and f were inoculated with *** NK65 and were administered with 5%DMSO and 15.63,31.25,61.5 and 125 mg/kg body weight of CSPf *** G animals,were also inoculated with *** NK65,and received 20 mg/kg body weight of *** administration lasted for three days,after which malondialdehyde（MDA）concentration and various antioxidant parameters in selected tissues of mice were determined on days 4 and 8 ***：The results revealed that MDA concentration was significantly increased（P〈0.05）in the tissues of the negative control and chloroquine-treated *** increased MDA concentration was reduced by CSPf in a dose-dependent manner,which was significant（P〈0.05）at higher *** activities of superoxide dismutase,catalase,glutathione peroxidase,glutathione reductase and glutathioneS-transferase and the concentration of reduced glutathione were significantly reduced（P〈0.05）in the tissues of the negative control animals compared to the normal *** observed reduction in the negative control animals was reverted in a dose-dependent manner in infected animals given CSPf,even to the range of the normal controls at highest dose,as did ***：The results suggest that CSPf of *** leaf extract may induce the antioxidant defense system in vivo against Plasmodium species infection.

The fourier space restricted Hartree-fock method for the electronic structure calculation of linear poly(tetrafluoroethylene)

Building on the pioneering work of Jean-Marie Andre and working in the laboratory he founded, the authors have developed a code called fT-1D to make Hartree-fock electronic structure computations for stereoregular polymers using Ewald-type con- vergence acceleration methods. That code also takes full advantage of all line-group symmetries to calculate only the minimal set of two-electron integrals and to optimize the computation of the fock matrix. The present communication reports a bench- mark study of the fT-1D code using polytetrafluoroethylene （PTfE） as a test case. Our results not only confirm the algorith- mic correctness of the code through agreement with other studies where they are applicable, but also show that the use of con- vergence acceleration enables accurate results to be obtained in situations where other widely-used codes （e.g., PLH and Crys- tal） fail. It is also found that full attention to the line-group symmetry of the PTfE polymer leads to an increase of between one and two orders of magnitude in the speed of computation. The new code can therefore be viewed as extending the range of electronic-structure computations for stereoregular polymers beyond the present scope of the successful and valuable code Crystal.
