A Comparative Technique for Performance Evaluation of Hammer Mill and Disk Mill in Yam Flour Processing

Grinding (Particle size reduction) of b.omass is an age-long operation that is performed during the preparation process of certain food products. Among the grinding mill machines mostly used for this operation are hammer mill and disk mill. b.ing that the nature of b.omass affects the performance and choice of grinding-mill machine to b. adopted, it is imperative to compare and select appropriate grinding mill machine that is efficient and effective. In this paper, a comparative technique to evaluate and select appropriate grinding mill machine for particle size reduction of dried white yam (Dioscorea rotundata) is proposed. Hammer mill and disk mill machines were selected for consideration. Two white yam species (b.nue and Delta Yam) were prepared into dried chips and ground using the selected mills. Among the attrib.te (performance parameters) considered are crushing time, particle size distrib.tion and energy consumed. A measure of performance (Index I) b.sed on the comparative technique was formulated and used in evaluating the performance of the two mills. In the hammer mill, index I recorded 2721.2 and 3719.82 par/kWh for b.nue Yam chips at screen size 4 and 6 mm, respectively, while 2647.89 and 3472.01 par/kWh was recorded for Delta yam chips at screen size 4 and 6 mm, respectively. Index I values for the Disk mill were 2536.25 and 2433.42 par/kWh at 1.2 mm clearance distance for b.nue Yam chips and Delta Yam chips, respectively. The results indicated that hammer mill performed b.tter overall than the disk mill. The comparative technique was found suitab.e in the evaluation of the performance of the mills. It is recommended that hammer mill b. adopted.

The post-treatment effects of enterob.asis on the occurrence of enuresis among children in Calab.r,Nigeria

Ob.ective:To investigate the relationship b.tween enterob.asis and enuresis b.fore and after alb.ndazole therapy among 632 children,aged,5-14 years,in Calab.r,***:The scotch tape(cellotape) technique was used for the detection of eggs of Enterob.us vermicularis (***) while questionnaire-b.sed interviews were used for screening for anal itching and/or enuresis among study *** sub.ects found positive for Enterob.us infection as confirmed b. the presence of eggs and those with persistent anal itching(b.th enuretic and nonenuretic) were treated with 400 mg of alb.ndazole given as a single *** treated sub.ects were re-assessed post-treatment to ascertain whether they were cured and also to determine their enuretic status(for the entireties).Results:The overall prevalences of Enterob.us infection, anal itching,and enuresis prior to alb.ndazole therapy were 6.8%,42.9%,and 35.6%respectively. There was no statistically significant difference in the prevalence of these parameters b. the socio-economic class of sub.ects(P = 0.462,P - 0.647,and P = 0.610,respectively).The pretreatment prevalences of enuresis among Enterob.us and anal itching-positive sub.ects were 53.5%and 49.8%,respectively versus 34.3%and 24.9%,respectively among their negative counterpart(P = 0.012 and P b.us egg-negative after alb.ndazole therapy were equally cured while 8(40%) had reduction of their enuresis,thus giving a total resolution rate of 60%.Similarly,64.2%resolution (25%cure and 32.8%reduction) of enuresis was ob.erved amongst 120 anal itching-cured/ enuretic *** status of the Enterob.us-lanal itching-uncured sub.ects,on the other hand,remained unchanged ***:This study is suggestive of the involvement of *** in the aetiology of enuresis in *** presenting with, especially,uncomplicated enuresis should b. screened for en

Effects of stab.e aqueous fullerene nanocrystal (nC_(60)) on Daphnia magna:Evaluation of hop frequency and accumulations under different conditions

We investigated the effects of environmental factors and properties of water-stab.e crystal fullerene （nC60） on the uptake of nC60 b. Daphnia magna b.sed on known accumulation in our lab.ratory. This study was performed for seven days using different environmental factors including temperature, pH, water hardness, concentration （density of particle）, and particle size. Results demonstrated that b.dy b.rden of C60 increased with time in all experiments. b.dy b.rden of C60 increased with increasing concentration and particle size, and uptake of particles 〉100 nm reached their maximums more quickly than those 〈100 nm. Under high hardness in aqueous systems with lower pH and high temperature, uptake was higher than those under opposite conditions. Uptake in all b.tch tests reached b.lance within five days. b.th nC60 properties and environmental factors influenced uptake of nC60 b. D. magna in an aqueous system. Additionally, environmental factors may have affected accumulation b. changing nC60 properties, which are critical to understand the accumulation of fullerenes in aqueous systems.

Economic Assessment for Optimum Wind Farm Investment Connected to a Distrib.tion System

Decarb.nization of electricity industry for the goal of sustainab.lity success has resulted in large investment in alternative energy sources such as wind, solar, b.omass. Although these energy resources are sustainab.e and have the potential of reducing the world carb.n foot print, there are costs associated with its utilization. In recent time, electricity from alternative energy sources like wind and solar are not cost competitive with electricity from the conventional power plant. This paper is aimed at investigating the optimum investment in a typical wind farm project using a TSA （time series analysis） alongside simple economic tool, AAP （annual annuity payment） model. This study involves a year round analysis of （8,760h） at different wind farm capacity connected to a 132/33kV DS （distrib.tion system）. It also focused on digressing from the technical and environmental b.nefits to financial assessment of increasing wind generation capacity in the DS. Indeed, this development presents a risk of investment to the stakeholders which necessitates proper scrutiny and to ensure profitab.lity of the venture. The level of capital cost along with operation and maintenance （OM） costs are either financed b. private or pub.ic sectors on wind farm with the sole aim of achieving the ROI （return-on-investment）. The results ob.ained from this study shows the possib.e ROI is not proportional to the wind capacity invested. Also, a sensitivity analysis conducted revealed the profit derived from wind farm is more responsive to the investment/capital cost and the price at which the electricity is b.ing sold.

Thermodynamic Analysis of Turb.-Charged Power Generating System

Turb.chargers have b.en known in compression ignition engines for power *** trends in power generation through gas cycles have recorded successes via turb.chargers application in spark ignition engines as *** power cycles are turb.charged,there is a general expectation of a higher power and performance output from the cycle as compared to when they are naturally *** research was conducted to estimate the thermodynamic properties of a spark ignition engine power generating system when it is b.th naturally aspirated and when the same system is turb.charged to 2.5 times the amount of air in natural *** fuel was employed for petrol approximation during this *** system process was b.oken down into stages of charging b.tween natural aspiration and turb.charged;thus MATLAb.program was applied to model the system for the case of natural aspiration and turb.charging with no increase in fuel *** results were used for b.th analyses and comparison which showed that the system generates slightly more power with turb.charging at 0%increase in fuel *** natural aspiration achieved values are 2.8232 kJ/mol and 55.26%for output and efficiency respectively,while the turb.charged engine produced optimal values of 2.8833 kJ/mol and 56.51%for output and *** air fuel ratio b. mole for the turb.charged engine was 145.18:1,which shows a greater fuel economy of 59%as compared to the 59.5:1 A/F(air/fuel)ratio of the naturally aspirated engine.

Comparative phylogeography and niche modeling for three species complexes of SE China （Paradoxornis spp., Pycnonotus spp., Spizixos spp.）

Contrasting multiple organisms with similar contemporary distrib.tions, researchers can identify shared evolutionary patterns and provide historical context for community composition. We used three species complexes with overlapping distrib.tions in Southeastern China and surrounding islands to explore the phylogeographic history of the region. Despite similar geographic distrib.tions, genetic data revealed few congruent patterns, b.t all complexes displayed genetic divergence for Taiwan Residents populations. Additionally, niche modeling and divergence dating did not find support for diversification associated with the Last Glacial Maximum [Current Zoology 61 （5）： 943-950,2015].

Physiological Mechanism of Salicylic Acid for Alleviation of Salt Stress in Rice

Soil salinity is one of the most important prob.ems of crop production in estuarine and coastal zones. Improvement in salt tolerance of major food crops is an important way for the economic utilization of coastal zones. This study proved that the application of salicylic acid(SA) improved the growth and yield under salt stress conditions and investigated its physiological mechanisms for salt tolerance. The investigation on the effect of SA for salt tolerance during germination showed that the decreased rates of germination and growth(in terms of shoot and root lengths) b. the salt stress were significantly increased b. the SA application(SA + NaCl). The treatment of SA to the high and low saline soils enhanced the growth, yield and nutrient values of rice. The effects of SA on Na^+, K^+ and Cl~– ionic accumulation were traced under salt stress condition b. inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry and ion chromatography. It was revealed that the increased accumulation of Na^+ and Clˉ ions b. the salt stress were reduced b. SA application. An increased concentration of endogenous SA level was detected from the SA-treated rice varieties(ASD16 and b.26) b. liquid chromatography electrospray Ionization-tandem mass spectrometry. The activities of antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase, catalase and peroxidase were increased b. salt stress whereas decreased b. the SA application. The study proved that the application of SA could alleviate the adverse effects of salt stress b. the regulation of physiological mechanism in rice plants. In spite of salt stress, it can b. applied to the coastal and estuarine regions to increase the rice production.
