AIM: To investigate the potential burden of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH) and advanced fibrosis in a hispanic ***: Four hundred and forty two participants with available ultrasonography data from the Cameron County Hispanic Cohort were included in this study. Each participant completed a comprehensive questionnaire regarding basic demographic information, medical history, medication use, and social and family history including alcohol use. Values of the nonalcoholic fatty liver disease fibrosis score(NFS), FIb4 index, bARD score, and Aspartate aminotransferase to Platelet Ratio Index(APRI) were computed using the blood samples collected within 6 mo of liver ultrasonography from each participant. Hepatic steatosis was determined by ultrasonography. As part of univariable analysis, for continuous variables, comparisons among groups were performed with student-t test, one way analysis of variance, and Mann-Whitney test. Pearson χ2 and the Fisher exact test are used to assess differences in categorical variables. For multivariable analyses, logistic regression analyses were performed to identify characteristics associated with hepatic steatosis. All reported P values are based two-sided tests, and a P value of less than 0.05 was considered to indicate statistical ***: The mean age and body mass index(bMI) of the study participants were 49.1 years and 31.3 kg/m2, respectively. Among them, 65.6% were females, 52% had hepatic steatosis, 49.5% had metabolic syndrome, and 29% had elevated aminotransferases. based on established cut-offs for diagnostic panels, between 17%-63% of the entire cohort was predicted to have NASH with indeterminate or advanced fibrosis. Linked to major volcanic eruptions around 536 and 540 CE, the onset of the Late Antique Little Ice Age has been described as the coldest period of the past two millennia. The exact timing and spatial extent of this exceptional cold phase are, however, still under debate because of the limited resolution and geographical distribution of the available proxy archives. Here, we use 106 wood anatomical thin sections from 23forest sites and 20 tree species in both hemispheres to search for cell-level fingerprints of ephemeral summer cooling between 530 and 550 CE. After cross-dating and double-staining, we identified 89blue Rings(lack of cell wall lignification), nine Frost Rings(cell deformation and collapse), and 93Light Rings(reduced cell wall thickening) in the Northern Hemisphere. Our network reveals evidence for the strongest temperature depression between mid-July and early-August 536 CE across North America and Eurasia, whereas more localised cold spells occurred in the summers of 532, 540–43, and548 CE. The lack of anatomical signatures in the austral trees suggests limited incursion of stratospheric volcanic aerosol into the Southern Hemisphere extra-tropics, that any forcing was mitigated by atmosphere-ocean dynamical responses and/or concentrated outside the growing season, or a combination of factors. Our findings demonstrate the advantage of wood anatomical investigations over traditional dendrochronological measurements, provide a benchmark for Earth system models, support cross-disciplinary studies into the entanglements of climate and history, and question the relevance of global climate averages.

Application of Analytic Hierarchy Process in Selection of an Appropriate Drying Platform for Maize Drying in a Solar bubble Dryer

The solar bubble dryer (SbD) is a convenient and better option to traditional open sun drying commonly practiced by smallholder farmers in Ghana and other developing countries. However, to operate the SbD, one is faced with the challenge of frequent mixing of grains using a rake to enhance uniform drying and prevent over-heating of the top-layer exposed to the sun. Additionally, condensation in the SbD can compromise the quality of grains during drying under humid conditions. In the present study, the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) was used to select an appropriate drying platform, tarpaulin, or elevated drying rack for maize drying in the SbD. Using the AHP, the elevated drying rack was chosen as a suitable platform for drying maize in the SbD. The SbD with the elevated drying racks was used to dry 270 kg of maize from a moisture content of 18.2% to 12.6% (w.w.b) within 6 hours compared to 11 hours for the same quantity of grains dried on the tarpaulin of the SbD to reach an mc of 12.5% (w.w.b). An average drying rate and moisture extraction rate of 0.93%/h and 2.88 kg/h were achieved with the elevated drying rack system compared to 0.52%/h and 1.60 kg/h when drying on the tarpaulin of the SbD. An average temperature of 44.6°C recorded in the SbD was 9°C more compared to the ambient temperature. The thermal efficiency of the SbD collector was determined as 36.2%. Drying grains with the elevated racks showed advantages of reduced drying time, improved airflow through the drying bed, and prevention of condensation, which occurs when drying on the tarpaulin of the SbD.

The liver is an immunologically tolerant organ and a common metastatic site of multiple cancer *** a role for cancer cell invasion programs has been well characterized,whether and how liver-intrinsic factors drive metastatic spread is incompletely ***,we show that aberrantly activated hepatocyte-intrinsic cell cycle-related kinase(CCRK)signaling in chronic liver diseases is critical for cancer metastasis by reprogramming an immunosuppressive *** an inducible liverspecific transgenic model,we found that CCRK overexpression dramatically increased both b16F10 melanoma and mc38 colorectal cancer(CRC)metastasis to the liver,which was highly infiltrated by polymorphonuclear-myeloid-derived suppressor cells(PMNMDSCs)and lacking natural killer T(NKT)*** of PMN-MDSCs in CCRK transgenic mice restored NKT cell levels and their interferon gamma production and reduced liver metastasis to 2.7% and 0.7%(metastatic tumor weights)in the melanoma and CRC models,***,CCRK activated nuclear factor-kappa b(NF-κb)signaling to increase the PMN-MDSC trafficking chemokine C-X-C motif ligand 1(CXCL1),which was positively correlated with liver-infiltrating PMN-MDSC levels in CCRK transgenic ***,CRC liver metastasis patients exhibited hyperaaivation of hepatic CCRK/NF-κb/CXCL1 signaling,which was associated with accumulation of PMN-MDSCs and paucity of NKT cells compared to healthy liver transplantation *** summary,this study demonstrates that immunosuppressive reprogramming by hepatic CCRK signaling undermines antimetastatic *** findings offer new mechanistic insights and therapeutic targets for liver metastasis intervention.

饲料和环境中会滋生沙门氏菌和其他感染畜禽的病原微生物。因此有必要采取措施控制动物沙门氏菌感染,以改善食品安全和减少生产损失。本研究旨在研究将替代饲料基质内细菌减少的挤出条件的优化。用单螺杆挤出机来处理饲料,用嗜热性脂肪芽孢杆菌12980(美国典型菌种收藏所,莱斯顿,弗吉尼亚州)人工接种饲料。初步实验表明在中度挤出强度(每kg糊状饲料含水分285g,挤出机出桶温度为83℃,挤出机桶保留时间为7S)条件下,可以从饲料中清除鼠伤寒沙门氏菌(鼠伤寒NALr),因此,还需要研究更耐热生物体。将b型嗜热性脂肪杆菌12980的芽孢接种到替代饲料基质上,基质中组成分别为玉米粉600g/kg,豆粕300g/kg,动物蛋白质100g/kg,用来研究三个挤压变量对杀菌的影响。三个变量为挤出机出桶温度(T),糊状饲料水分含量(mc),和饲料在挤出机桶的平均保留时间(Rt)。每个旋转中心复合设计使用三个自变量和五个水平。用计算孢子数的二次响应面模型来预测最大限度杀菌的挤出条件。响应面证实在设计区的平稳点是一个鞍点。最大杀菌的估测峰表明,在挤出机设置为T=110℃,mc=245g/kg和Rt=11s时,会发生最高1.03个数量级的减幅,由于在中度强度条件(T=83℃,mc=285g/kg和Rt=7s)下,可以完全清除测试饲料中可检出的鼠伤寒沙门氏菌,可见在中央复合设计区,所有鼠伤寒沙门细胞和所有耐热的嗜温生物体在多数挤出条件下会被清除。
