AIM:To evaluate refractive outcomes and.corneal astigmatism changes after Toric implantable collamer lens with a central port(V4c T-ICL)implantation over 1y of ***:A retrospective stud. was performed.includ.ng 50 eyes of 50 patients that und.rwent V4c T-ICL ***(Ud.A)and.corrected.Cd.A)d.stance visual acuities,refraction,refractive and.corneal astigmatism changes and.corneal coupling correction were evaluated.preoperatively,1 and.12mo *** analysis was used.for astigmatism *** of ad.ustment(CAd.)was calculated.for corneal coupling ***:The mean Ud.A achieved.was 0.03 logMAR at 1mo and.remained.unchanged.throughout the whole follow-up(P=0.193).At the last visit,84%of the eyes achieved.a Cd.A of 0.00 logMAR or *** spherical equivalent refraction(SEQ),96%of eyes were ranges of±1.00 d.and.84%of them within±0.50 ***,94%of eyes had.a remaining refractive cylind.r within±1.00 d.and.78%of them within±0.50 ***,SEQ and.refractive cylind.r,remain stable over the postoperative follow-up(P=1.000 and.P=0.660,respectively).In terms of surgically ind.ced.astigmatism(SIA),no statistically significant d.fferences were found.over the follow-up(P=0.102)and.und.r correction was found.with a correction ind.x lower than the unit at each visit.A keratometric astigmatism ind.ced.of 0.59±0.53(vector mean:0.26×73º)d.was reached.at the last *** significant changes in terms of corneal astigmatism orientation were reported.over post-surgery visits(P=0.129 and.P=0.097 at 1 and.12mo respectively).No clinical significance was found.for CAd. on with-the-rule *** postoperative complications resulting from the surgery were ***:refractive outcomes suggest that the V4c T-ICL implantation for correction of myopic astigmatism was satisfactory in terms of effectiveness,safety,and.stability d.ring 1y of *** astigmatism ind.ced.by the incision around.0.5 d.is achieved

Luminescence constitutes a unique source of insight into hot carrier processes in metals,includ.ng those in plasmonic nanostructures used.for sensing and.energy ***,being weak in nature,metal luminescence remains poorly und.rstood.its microscopic origin strongly d.bated.and.its potential for unraveling nanoscale carrier d.namics largely ***,we reveal quantum-mechanical effects in the luminescence emanating from thin monocrystalline gold.***,we present experimental evid.nce,supported.by first-principles simulations,to d.monstrate its photoluminescence origin(i.e.,rad.ative emission from electron/hole recombination)when exciting in the interband.*** mod.l allows us to id.ntify changes to the measured.gold.luminescence d.e to quantum-mechanical effects as the gold.film thickness is ***,such effects are observable in the luminescence signal from flakes up to 40 nm in thickness,associated.with the out-of-plane d.screteness of the electronic band.structure near the Fermi *** qualitatively reprod.ce the observations with first-principles mod.ling,thus establishing a unified.d.scription of luminescence in gold.monocrystalline flakes and.enabling its wid.spread.application as a probe of carrier d.namics and.light-matter interactions in this *** stud. paves the way for future explorations of hot carriers and.charge-transfer d.namics in a multitud. of material systems.

AIM: To evaluate the effect of femtosecond.laser-assisted.lens surgery(FLALS;cataract surgery or refractive lens exchange) on the structure of the optic nerve head.and.the ***: This prospective longitud.nal stud. includ.d.healthy eyes und.rgoing FLALS. Eyes with glaucoma or any other ocular d.sease that could.alter optical coherence tomography results were exclud.d. retinal nerve fiber layer(RNFL), Bruch’s membrane opening-minimum rim wid.h(BMO-MRW) and.macular thickness(MT) were measured.preoperatively, 1 and.6 mo after surgery using spectral-d.main optical coherence tomography(Sd.OCT). Changes between preoperative and.postoperative values were ***: A total of 87 eyes of 46 patients were includ.d.in this stud.. Preoperative RNFL, BMO-MRW and.MT in microns(μm) were 100.77±10.39, 330.31±49.99 and.276.30±33.39, respectively. Postoperative RNFL, BMO-MRW and.MT were 104.74±11.55, 348.32±54.05 and.279.83±22.65 1 mo after surgery and.102.93±11.17, 343.11±53.4 and.278.90±22.19 6 mo after surgery, respectively;which equals an increase of 3.93%, 5.45% and.1.27%,respectively, 1 mo after surgery, and.2.14%, 3.87% and.0.94% 6 mo after surgery. The d.fferences between the preoperative and.the postoperative RNFL and.BMO-MRW values were statistically significant(Pregard.ng MT values, there were not statistically significant d.fferences(P=0.26).CONCLUSION: Our stud. suggests that FLALS d.es not have a negative impact on the structural status of the optic nerve head.in healthy eyes, assessed.by Sd.OCT. There is a slight increase in the values of RNFL, BMO-MRW and.MT 1 mo and.6 mo after surgery.

This stud. investigated.the ad.orption of Hg（Ⅱ） on Macrocystis pyrifera and.Und.ria pinnatifid. in monometallic system in the presence of Zn（II）,Cd.Ⅱ） and.Ni（II）.The two biosorbents reached.the same maximum sorption capacity （q m = 0.8 mmol/g） for *** showed.a greater affinity （given by the coefficient b of the Langmuir equation） for mercury compared.to *** （4.4 versus 2.7 L/mmol）.Mercury uptake was significantly red.ced.（by more than 50%） in the presence of competitor heavy metals such as Zn（II）,Cd.II） and.Ni（Ⅱ）.Samples analysis using an environmental scanning electron microscopy equipped.with an energy d.spersive X-ray microanalysis showed.that mercury was heterogeneously ad.orbed.on the surface of both biomaterials,while the other heavy metals were homogeneous *** analysis of biosorbents by Fourier transform infrared.spectrometry ind.cated.that Hg（Ⅱ） bind.ng occurred.on S=O （sulfonate） and.N-H （amine） functional groups.

Management of critically ill patients with d.abetes

d.sord.rs of glucose homeostasis, such as stress-ind.ced.hypoglycemia and.hyperglycemia, are common complications in patients in the intensive care unit. Patients with preexisting d.abetes mellitus(d.) are more susceptible to hyperglycemia, as well as a higher risk from glucose overcorrection, that may results in severe hypoglycemia. In critically ill patients with d., it is recommend.d.to maintain a blood.glucose range between 140-180 mg/d.L. In neurological patients and.surgical patients, tighter glycemic control(i.e., 110-140 mg/d. is recommend.d.if hypoglycemia can be properly avoid.d. There is limited.evid.nce that shows that critically ill d.abetic patients with a glycosylated.hemoglobin levels above 7% may benefit from looser glycemic control, in ord.r to red.ce the risk of hypoglycemia and.significant glycemic variability.

Background.There are no clearly d.fined.ind.cations for pancreas-preserving *** present stud. aimed.to analyze postoperative morbid.ty and.the outcomes of patients und.rgoing pancreaspreserving ***:Patients und.rgoing pancreas-preserving d.od.nectomy from April 2008 to May 2020 were *** d.vid.d.the series accord.ng to ind.cation:scenario 1,primary d.od.nal tumors;scenario 2,tumors of another origin with d.od.nal involvement;and.scenario 3,emergency ***:We includ.d.35 *** d.od.nectomy was performed.in 1 patient of ad.nomatous d.od.nal polyposis,limited.d.od.nectomy in 7,and.third.fourth d.od.nal portion resection in *** ind.cations for scenario 1 were gastrointestinal stromal tumor(n=13),ad.nocarcinoma(n=4),neuroend.crine tumor(n=3),d.od.nal ad.noma(n=1),and.ad.nomatous d.od.nal polyposis(n=1);scenario 2:retroperitoneal d.smoid.tumor(n=2),recurrence of liposarcoma(n=2),retroperitoneal paraganglioma(n=1),neuroend.crine tumor in pancreatic uncinate process(n=1),and.d.od.nal infiltration d.e to metastatic ad.nopathies of a germinal tumor with d.gestive hemorrhage(n=1);and.scenario 3:aortoenteric fistula(n=3),d.od.nal trauma(n=1),erosive d.od.nitis(n=1),and.biliopancreatic limb ischemia(n=1).Severe complications(Clavien-d.nd.≥IIIb)d.veloped.in 14%(5/35),and.postoperative mortality was 3%(1/35).Conclusions:Pancreas-preserving d.od.nectomy is useful in the management of primary d.od.nal tumors,and.is a technical option for some tumors with d.od.nal infiltration or in emergency interventions.

Graphene is emerging as a promising material for photonic applications owing to its unique optoelectronic *** supports tunable,long-lived.and.extremely confined.plasmons that have great potential for applications such as biosensing and.optical ***,in ord.r to excite plasmonic resonances in graphene,this material requires a high d.ping level,which is challenging to achieve without d.grad.ng carrier mobility and.***,we d.monstrate that the infrared.plasmonic response of a graphene multilayer stack is analogous to that of a highly d.ped.single layer of graphene,preserving mobility and.supporting plasmonic resonances with higher oscillator strength than previously explored.single-layer ***,we find.that the optically equivalent carrier d.nsity in multilayer graphene is larger than the sum of those in the ind.vid.al ***,electrostatic biasing in multilayer graphene is enhanced.with respect to single layer d.e to the red.stribution of carriers over d.fferent layers,thus extend.ng the spectral tuning range of the plasmonic *** superior effective d.ping and.improved.tunability of multilayer graphene stacks should.enable a plethora of future infrared.plasmonic d.vices with high optical performance and.wid. tunability.
