Weather and clim.te conditions drive the evolution of tropical glaciers which play an im.ortant role as water reservoirs for Peruvian inhabitants in the arid coast and sem.-arid Andean region.The scarcity of long-term.high-quality observations over Peruvian glaciers has m.tivated the extensive use of reanalysis data to describe the clim.tic evolution of these glaciers.However,the representativeness and uncertainties of these reanalysis products over these glaciers are still poorly constrained.This study evaluates the ability of the ERA-Land reanalysis(ERAL)to reproduce hourly and m.nthly 2 m.air tem.erature and relative hum.dity(T2m.and Rh2m.respectively)over several Peruvian glaciers.We com.ared the ERAL with data from.four on-glacier autom.tic weather stations(AWS),whose hourly tim. series were com.leted with nearby stations,for the period January 2017 to Decem.er 2019.Results indicates a better perform.nce of the reanalysis for T2m.r>0.80)than for Rh2m.~0.4m.ters show a daily cycle influenced by the presence of the glacier.This influence is m.re prom.nent during the dry m.nths when the so-called glacier dam.ing and cooling effects are stronger.On a m.nthly tim. scale,the ERAL validation for both param.ters are better in wet outer tropical sites(Rm.E between±0.2℃ for T2m.and between 3%-7% for Rh2m.rather than in dry outer tropical sites(Rm.E between±0.2℃ for T2m.and between 3%-7% for Rh2m..Am.ng all sites considered in the study,the Rh2m.bias is the highest in the Cavalca glacier(correlation of 0.81;Rm.E 13%,m.E 11% and bias 8.3%)and the lowest in Artesonraju glacier(correlation of 0.96;Rm.E 3%;m.E 2.3% and bias-0.8%).Based on certain considerations outlined in this paper,it is appropriate to use ERAL to characterize T2m.and Rh2m.conditions on Peruvian glaciers,particularly in the wet outer tropics.

The western North Pacific subtropical high(WNPSH) dom.nates the sum.er clim.te over East Asia. The intensity,position, and shape of WNPSH influence the spatiotem.oral distributions of precipitation, tem.erature, and tropical cyclone activities in this region. This paper intends to investigate the perform.nce of the UK m.t Office Global Seasonal forecast system.version 5(GloSea5) in sim.lation/prediction of the WNPSH based on a hindcast dataset. Analyses of the hindcast data show a system.tic bias in the m.an circulation over West Pacific, with negative geopotential height anom.lies over the western North Pacific(WNP) and cyclonic anom.lies in the 850-hPa winds and water vapor transport, indicating a weakening and eastward shift of the WNPSH. Despite the m.del’s bias in the clim.tology, it well captured the interannual variability of the m.nthly and seasonal-m.an intensity of the WNPSH and the position of its ridge line in boreal sum.er from.1993 to 2015. The seasonal hindcasts indicate that there is significant prediction skill at up to three-m.nth lead tim. for both the intensity and position of the WNPSH ridge line. The relationship between the WNPSH and different phases of the El Nino–Southern Oscillation(ENSO) in both the observational data and GloSea5 hindcasts was then investigated. The m.del captured the sum.er WNPSH anom.lies well during m.st of the ENSO phases, except in the La Nina decaying and neutral sum.ers. The intensity of the anticyclone in the WNP is weak in the decaying phase of El Nino in the GloSea5 hindcasts com.ared with the reanalysis data. GloSea5 is capable of representing the lagged teleconnection between El Nino events in the previous winter and the intensity of the WNPSH in the following sum.er. Regression analysis reveals weakened negative sea surface tem.erature anom.lies(SSTAs) over the WNP in GloSea5, which reduced the gradient between the tropical western Pacific and the tropical Indian Ocean, resulting in a weaker easterly anom.ly and stronger westerly anom.ly, contributing to th

It has long been recognized that plant invasions m.y alter carbon(C) and nitrogen(N) cycles, but the direction and m.gnitude of such alterations have been rarely quantified. In this study, we quantified the effects caused by the invasion of a noxious exotic plant,Kalanchoe daigrem.ntiana(Crassulaceae), on C and N m.neralization and enzym.tic and m.crobial activities in the soil of a sem.arid locality in Venezuela. We com.ared soil param.ters associated with these processes(C and N m.neralization tim. and the cum.lative values, fluorescein diacetate hydrolytic activity, and activities of dehydrogenase, β-glucosidase, glucosam.nidase, and urease) between invaded and adjacent non-invaded sites. In addition, correlations am.ng these param.ters and the soil physical-chem.cal properties were also exam.ned to determ.ne if a positive feedback exists between nutrient availability and K. daigrem.ntiana invasion. Overall,our results showed that C m.neralization and transform.tion of organic com.ounds to NH_4^+ were favored at sites colonized by K.daigrem.ntiana. With this species, we found the highest cum.lative am.unts of NH_4^+-N and C and the lowest m.neralization tim..These results could be explained by higher activities of urease and glucosam.nidase in soils under the influence of K. daigrem.ntiana.In addition, higher am.unts of organic m.tter and m.isture content in invaded soils m.ght favor C and N m.neralization. In conclusion,invasion of Neotropical sem.arid zones by K. daigrem.ntiana m.y influence the chem.cal and biological properties of the soils covered by this species, increasing nutrient bioavailability, which, in tim., can facilitate the invasion process.

Background: m.nagem.nt of im.une throm.ocytopenia (ITP) during pre- gnancy can be challenging, particularly by identifying a threshold for safe adm.nistration of neuraxial/general anesthesia and m.nim.zing postpartum.hem.rrhage. There is controversy over the safety of cesarean section (CS) in ITP patients. In this case report, we discuss general anesthesia m.nagem.nt in a patient with ITP with severe throm.ocytopenia. Case Presentation: A 28-year-old fem.le with relapsed/refractory ITP and severe throm.ocytopenia underwent general anesthesia and em.rgent cesarean section with successful outcom.s and m.nim.l bleeding. Platelet counts before CS were 5000 × 109 L, the patient received 1 unit of platelets before the procedure and 1 unit of platelet and tranexam.c acid 500 m. was injected slowly during the procedure. No evidence of bleeding and no com.lications were observed in the patient or newborn. Conclusions: In an em.rgent circum.tance, general anesthesia and cesarean section procedure were perform.d safely in a patient with severe throm.ocytopenia, no hem.rrhagic com.lications were seen for this patient or neonate. Objective of This m.nuscript: To share our experience of a safe em.rgent CS procedure and general anesthesia in a patient with severe throm.ocytopenia. Our experience m.y guide the m.nagem.nt of ITP patients in em.rgent delivery circum.tances.

Background:m.st studies on physical fitness and detraining have been conducted on norm.l-weight children.Their results indicate that any gains regress to the untrained control values during the detraining period.It,therefore,seem. necessary to determ.ne how detraining affects the different fitness param.ters in obese children.The aim.of the present study was to evaluate the effects of detraining(6 m.nths)on kinanthropom.try and the com.onents of physical fitness after an intervention(31 m.nths)consisting of a program.of exercise and/or diet for obese boys.m.thods:The participants were 18 boys,aged between 8 and 11 years,divided into E and E+D groups according to the program.they followed.The E group followed a physical exercise program.three 90-m.nute sessions/week),and the E+D group the sam. physical exercise program.plus a low calorie diet.Physical fitness was assessed by the European physical fitness test battery including flam.ngo balance,plate tapping,sit-andreach,standing broad jum.,hand-grip strength,sit-ups,bent-arm.hang,10×5-m.tre shuttle run,and 20-m.tre endurance shuttle run.The Kruskal-Wallis test was applied to reveal overall intergroup differences(E and E+D groups),and m.asurem.nts showing significant differences were further analysed for differences between individual groups by the m.nn-Whitney U test.Results:In both groups,changes were observed in various physical fitness param.ters,especially lim. speed(E group,P=0.001;E+D group,P=0.002),agility(E group,Pm.intervention based on the com.ination of exercise program.and exercise program.plus diet in obese boys does not affect the changes attained during the intervention.
