The environmental damage arising from the construction and engineering services was responsible for the appearance of several norms and resolutions regulating and directing the sector’s performance. In this article, we research how professionals with experience in public bids assess the difficulty degree of the implementation of those requirements and how they assess the environmental legislation regarding the protection and conservation of the environment, impact on costs, deadlines and the solution to environmental problems. The results show that industry professionals consider as “high” the level of difficulty to implement the addressed sustainability requirements, and that the Brazilian environmental legislation does not comply with its environmental protection role, increases the possibility of delays and costs of projects and services and hampers the emergence of solutions that could solve environmental problems.

The coconut mite, Aceria guerreronis Keifer (Acari: Eriophyidae), is a major pest of coconut plantations (Cocos nucifera L.) worldwide. Here, we conducted a bioguided phytochemical approach using toxicity and repellency bioassays of nonpolar extract and its fractions of Vitex gardneriana Schauer (Lamiaceae) leaves to this pest. Nonpolar crude extract was fractionated by column chromatography using solvents with increased polarity and binary mixtures, resulting in five semipurified groups. The biomonitoring bioassay provided active fractions and led to the isolation and characterization of the bioactive compound squalene, a biosynthetic precursor of 20-hydroxyecdysone, which plays an important role in plant defense against arthropods. The LC50 of the crude extract of V. gardneriana for A. guerreronis was estimated to be 0.185 mg·mL-1 and LC80 = 4.123 mg·mL-1. Also, the extract was highly repellent to this pest for up to 24 h. The fractions of V. gardneriana, and also squalene, caused mortality to A. guerreronis. The potential of V. gardneriana fractions/squalene as biopesticides for controlling A. guerreronis in coconut plantations is discussed herein.

Congenital central nervous system tumors diagnosed during pregnancy are rare, and often have a poor prognosis. The most frequent type is the teratoma. Use of ultrasound and magnetic resonance image allows the suspicion of brain tumors during pregnancy. However, the definitive diagnosis is only confirmed after birth by histology. The purpose of this mini-review article is to describe the general clinical aspects of intracranial tumors and describe the main fetal brain tumors.

The use of the extraordinary hydroelectric potential of the Amazon Basin originated an increase in the offer of renewable energy in Brazil, which, in its turn, leads to conflicts and a lack of consensus among different players owing to the potential negative impacts related to the construction and operation of large hydroelectric power plants in relatively well preserved areas. In this context, environmental licensing is one of the national environmental policy’s main instruments for making decisions regarding the use of the hydroelectric potential, especially the rivers of the Amazon Basin. Nevertheless, this significant instrument has its limitations and requires adjustments in order to better aid the decision making process regarding the use of water resources and land with the goal of increasing the offer of electric energy.

Ultraviolet radiation is the mainly degradation cause of solar cells polymeric encapsulants films, leading to a photovoltaic efficiency conversion fails. In this work, it was produced gamma irradiated and non-irradiated quartz nanoparticles with a planetary balls mill by applying progressive compressive milling, as potentials ultraviolet radiation absorbers fillers for these films. The nanoparticles chemical composition was obtained by plasma optical emission spectroscopy. UV-vis-NIR results showed a similar total optical absorption on ultraviolet range to both kind of nanoparticles, with higher light transmission in visible and NIR range being characteristic of irradiated ones. It was found average sizes values of 60.82 nm with 16% efficiency with mainly Al and Fe compounds contaminations. The XRD results showed maximum pressure of 337 MPa for non-irradiated samples and 300 MPa for the irradiated ones, significantly lower than literature related values to 40 h of applied pressure. This could mean considerable process energy safe for quartz nanoparticles production.

MM:To investigate whether, under the influence of pol ypectomy, the incidence of adenoma decreases with age. METHODS:Consecutive patients with colonic adenomas identified at index colonoscopy were retrospectively selected if they had undergone three or more complete colonoscopies, at least 24mo apart. Patients who had any first-degree relative with colorectal cancer were excluded. Data regarding number of adenomas at each colonoscopy, their location, size and histological classification were recorded. The monthly incidence density of adenomas after the index examination was estimated for the study population, by using the person-years method. Baseline adenomas were excluded from incidence calculations but their characteristics were correlated with recurrence at follow-up, using the X^42 test. RESULTS:One hundred and fifty-six patients were included (109male, mean age at index colonoscopy 56.8±10.3 years), with follow-up that ranged from 48 to 232mo. No significant correlations were observed between the number, the presence of villous component, or the size of adenomas at index colonoscopy and the presence of adenomas at subsequent colonoscopies (P = 0.49, 0.12 and 0.78, respectively). The incidence of colonic adenomas was observed to decay from 1.4% person-months at the beginning of the study to values close to 0%, at 12 years after index colonoscopy. CONCLUSION:Our results suggest the sporadic formation of adenomas occurs within a discrete period and that, when these adenomas are removed, all neoplasia-prone clones may be extinguished.

This study aimed to analyze the mechanical properties of the compound FeCuC when compacted at varying pressures and sintered in two different types of furnaces. Besides the different models of furnace, the working atmospheres were varied: one is being composed with argon gas and another constituted with a balancing nitrogen and hydrogen. Atmospheres vary with the amount of production and the type of equipment used. The compound generated is used in the manufacture of rings for mechanical seals and is currently manufactured by the sintering process in passing furnace. The sintering was performed in a static furnace with argon atmosphere and compared with the same compound sintered in passage furnace with hydrogen and nitrogen atmosphere. The analysis of the properties of the tested material was performed with the aid of metallography using a scanning electron microscope, which verified the particle size distribution, chemical elements and pores present. Brinell hardness and Vickers micro hardness tests were also used to analyze the properties of this material after completion of the two processes. Thus, the research carried out has shown that variations may occur in the mechanical properties when processed in different furnace types and different sintering atmospheres.
