Lympho-SPECT/CT as a tool to evaluate postoperative outcomes after LVA for lymphedema repair

Aim:To describe findings when comparing lympho-SPECT-CT images before and after lymphovenous anastomosis(LVA)surgeries and to correlate these results with pre-and post-operative volume changes in the limbs of patients.Methods:An observational,prospective,longitudinal study was designed.20 consecutive patients were treated for lymphedema by means of LVA between 2015 and 2018.All were affected by secondary lymphedema(ISGⅡ-Ⅲ)following lymphadenectomy,radiation or both.All patients received preoperative rehabilitation as well as radiotherapy after oncological surgery.Limb volume was measured before surgery and at one year later.LVA was performed under general anesthesia with ICG guidance.ICG was also used to evaluate postoperative outcomes.Lympho-SPECT-CT was performed in all subjects at their first consultation and at one year after every surgical intervention.Description of findings included an absence of lymph nodes,new lymph node activity in anatomical areas and new lymphatic activity in extra-anatomical areas.results:Limb volume decreased in 19 patients after LVA.Six patients showed preoperative linear ICG patterns,combined with areas presenting with another type of pattern.After LVA,the linear pattern was observed in 11 patients.SPECT-CT/lymphoscintigraphy before surgery showed a total absence of lymph nodes,except in two cases,in whom small nodes in anatomical locations were described.After LVA,we observed new landmarks in 16 patients corresponding to lymphatic circulation that was not present in preoperative studies.In six cases,newlymphatic activity compatible with lymph nodes was detectable after LVA.The Spearman correlation coefficient was negative when circumferences and lympho-SPECT-CT were tested(P=0.02).Conclusion:results showed a postoperative decrease in volume that correlated inversely with lympho-SPECT/CT findings.Lympho-SPECT/CT provided additional information related to accurate identification and the anatomical location of lymphatic structures that were not observed before reconstructive surgery

As photovoltaic energy increasingly penetrates in power systems,transmission system operators have started to request its participation in providing ancillary services.One of the demanded services is the power ramp-rate control(PrrC),which attempts to limit the power ramps produced by intermittent irradiance conditions.In order to achieve the desired objective,solutions based on storage systems or modifying the maximum power point tracking(MPPT)in perturb and observe(P&O)algorithms are commonly adopted.The starting point in PrrC is the determination of the instantaneous power ramprate,and different methods have been proposed in the literature for its calculation.However,the accuracy and computational speed of existing procedures can be improved,which may be critical in situations with rapid irradiance fluctuations.In this paper,a decoupled photovoltaic power ramp-rate calculation method is presented,in which the effect of variable irradiance and the P&O algorithm are computed separately.The proposed method has been theoretically demonstrated and tested through simulation and experimental tests.Simulation results show that it can improve the previous methods in terms of accuracy and computation time.Experimental validation with hardware-inthe-loop demonstrates the suitability of the proposed method for real-time applications,even in presence of noisy measurements.

Maintaining soil phosphorus(P) at adequate levels for plant growth requires assessing how the long-term P balance(viz., the difference between P inputs and outputs) results in changes in soil test P. The hypothesis that routinely measured soil properties can help predict the conversion factor of P balance into Olsen P was tested at 39 sites in agricultural areas of the Mediterranean region in Spain. A set of soil samples from each site was analyzed for Olsen P, inorganic P(P extracted using 0.5 mol L^(-1) H_2SO_4), pseudototal P(P extracted using 0.5 mol L^(-1) H_2SO_4 following ignition at 550℃), and organic P(the difference between pseudototal P and inorganic P). Organic and Olsen P were uncorrelated in most of the 39 soil sets, which suggests that organic P content changed little with P inputs and outputs. The slopes of the regression lines of Olsen P against pseudototal and inorganic P, which were used as two different measures of the conversion factor, ranged widely(from 0.03 to 0.25 approximately), with their average values(about 0.10) being similar to those found in long-term experiments conducted in temperate areas. Neither conversion factor was significantly correlated with any routinely measured soil property; however, the conversion factor for inorganic P was significantly lower for calcareous soils than for noncalcareous soils. Our negative results suggest the need to isolate the influence of soil properties from that of management systems and environmental factors relating to P dynamics in future studies.

Microglia are the resident macrophages of the brain,originally described by Pio del rio-Hortega(a student of Santiago ramon y Cajal)in a series of studies in 1919.Since those pioneering studies,many others have followed to describe microglia as complex and multitasking cells with many diverse roles under physiological(e.***.their key role in synapse pruning during development)or diseased conditions.Microglia exist as sentinels or surveyors of the environment that surround neurons,becoming reactive upon a wide array of stimuli and consequently developing an appropriate inflammatory response.In fact,a neuroinflammatory response driven by microglia is found in virtually every disease process that occurs within the central nervous system.Therefore,a better understanding of the mechanisms governing the microglia response is the key to improving the outcome of neurodegenerative conditions.

Transformerless grid-connected inverters offer greater efficiencies when transferring power from renewable energy sources to the electrical grid.If the grid-inverter connection is done with an LCL filter,high attenuation of switching harmonics is achieved while preserving a small-size output filter.However,damping must be included in the controller to assure closed-loop stability.This paper proposes a reference computation methodology for the inverter-side current feedback in a photovoltaic(PV)generation system connected to the grid through an LCL filter.Theoretical analysis of the closed-loop system stability and of the steady-state performance are presented as well as experimental validation of the closed-loop performance.The feedback controller includes active damping and relies on a resonant control structure which improves the ability of dealing with grid harmonic distortion.The controller uses a reduced set of measurements,which requires the inverter-side current and grid voltage only,and assures a power factor close to unity.

Early-stage fire-warning systems(EFWSs)have attracted significant attention owing to their superiority in detecting fire situations occurring in the pre-combustion process.Substantial progress on EFWSs has been achieved recently,and they have presented a considerable possibility for more evacuation time to control constant unintentional fire hazards in our daily life.This review mainly makes a comprehensive summary of the current EFWSs,including the working mechanisms and their performance.According to the different working mechanisms,fire alarms can be classified into graphene oxide-based fire alarms,semiconductor-based fire alarms,thermoelectric-based fire alarms,and fire alarms on other working mechanisms.Finally,the challenge and prospect for EFWSs are briefly provided by comparing the art of state of fire alarms.This work can propose a more comprehensive understanding of EFWSs and a guideline for the cutting-edge development direction of EFWSs for readers.

Drones are increasingly used for fauna monitoring and wildlife tracking;however,their application for wildlife tracking is restricted by developing such systems.Here we explore the potential of drones for wildlife tracking using an off-the-shelf system that is easy to use by non-specialists consisting of a multirotor drone,smartphones,and commercial tracking devices via Bluetooth and Ultra-Wide Band(UWB).We present the system configuration,explore the operational parameters that can affect detection capabilities,and test the effectiveness of the system for locating targets by simulating target animals in savanna and forest environments.The self-contained tracking system was built without hardware or software customization.In 40 tracking flights carried out in the Brazilian Cerrado,we obtained a detection rate of 90%in savanna and 40%in forest areas.Tests for targets in movement(N=20),the detection rates were 90%in the savanna and 30%in the forest areas.The spatial accuracy obtained by the system was 14.61 m,being significantly more accurate in savanna(x=10.53)than in forest areas(x=13.06).This approach to wildlife tracking facilitates the use of drones by non-specialists at an affordable cost for conservation projects with limited resources.The reduced size of the tags,the long battery life,and the iower cost compared to GPS-tags open up a range of opportunities for animal tracking.

Genomic prediction is an effective way to accelerate the rate of agronomic trait improvement in plants.Traditional methods typically use linear regression models with clear assumptions;such methods are unable to capture the complex relationships between genotypes and phenotypes.Non-linear models(e.g.,deep neural networks)have been proposed as a superior alternative to linear models because they can capture complex non-additive effects.Here we introduce a deep learning(DL)method,deep neural network genomic prediction(DNNGP),for integration of multi-omics data in plants.We trained DNNGP on four datasets and compared its performance with methods built with five classic models:genomic best linear unbiased prediction(GBLUP);two methods based on a machine learning(ML)framework,light gradient boosting machine(LightGBM)and support vector regression(SVr);and two methods based on a DL framework,deep learning genomic selection(DeepGS)and deep learning genome-wide association study(DLGWAS).DNNGP is novel in five ways.First,it can be applied to a variety of omics data to predict phenotypes.Second,the multilayered hierarchical structure of DNNGP dynamically learns features from raw data,avoiding overfitting and improving the convergence rate using a batch normalization layer and early stopping and rectified linear activation(rectified linear unit)functions.Third,when small datasets were used,DNNGP produced results that are competitive with results from the other five methods,showing greater prediction accuracy than the other methods when large-scale breeding data were used.Fourth,the computation time required by DNNGP was comparable with that of commonly used methods,up to 10 times faster than DeepGS.Fifth,hyperparameters can easily be batch tuned on a local machine.Compared with GBLUP,LightGBM,SVr,DeepGS and DLGWAS,DNNGP is superior to these existing widely used genomic selection(GS)methods.Moreover,DNNGP can generate robust assessments from diverse datasets,including omics data,and quickly incorporate complex and large datas

A Hull cell, normally employed in electroplating studies, will be used. The mathematical model, describing resistivity as a function of the initial of current and voltage parameters is very simple.
