The use of metal-accumulating plants for the phytoremediation of contaminated soils is gaining more attention. Mercury （Hg）-contaminated soils from historical gold mines represent a potential risk to human health and the environment. Therefore, Jatropha curcas plant, that has shown its tolerance to these environments, is a species of particular interest to implement phytoremediation techniques in gold mining sites. In this work, the behavior of J. curcas was assessed in different hydroponic cultures fortified with Hg at concentrations of 5, 10, 20, 40, and 80μg Hg/mL （T5, T10, T20, T40 and T80, respectively）. After exposure, plant growth, net photosynthesis, leaf area, and Hg accumulation were determined and variables such as net Hg uptake, effective Hg accumulation, translocation and bioaccumu- lation factors were calculated. Accumulation of Hg in root and leaf tissues increased with respect to the Hg concentrations in the hydroponic culture, with statistically significant differences （p 〈 0.05） among treatments. Moreover, Hg concentration in roots was 7 and 12-fold higher in average than in plant leaves and shoots, respectively. Many effects were found in the development of plants, especially related with loss of biomass and leaf area, with significant growth inhibition related to control values （〉50% with treatment T5）. Moreover, percentage of inhibition was even higher （〉60%） with same treatment for net photosynthesis. Finally, it should be highlighted that for T40 and T80 treatments, plant growth and photosynthesis were almost completely depleted （88%-95%）.

In this work, we obtain good upper bounds for the diameter of any graph in terms of its minimum degree and its order, improving a classical theorem due to Erdos, Pach, Pollack and Tuza. We use these bounds in order to study hyperbolic graphs （in the Gromov sense）. To compute the hyperbolicity constant is an almost intractable problem, thus it is natural to try to bound it in terms of some parameters of the graph. Let H（n, δ0） be the set of graphs G with n vertices and minimum degree 50, and J（n, Δ） be the set of graphs G with n vertices and maximum degree A. We study the four following extremal problems on graphs： a（n,δ0） = min{δ（G）｜ G ∈H（n, δ0）}, b（n, δ0） =- max{δ（G）｜ e ∈H（n, δ0）}, α（n, Δ） = min{δ（G） [ G ∈ J（n, Δ）} and β（n,Δ） = max{δ（G） ] G∈Π（n,Δ）}. In particular, we obtain bounds for b（n, δ0） and we compute the precise value of a（n, δ0）, α（n, Δ） and w（n, Δ） for all values of n, r0 and A, respectively.

A multilayer perceptron(MLP) artificial neural network(ANN) model has been optimized by the multi-objective ant colony optimization(MOACO) algorithm, which uses three objective functions. A sensitivity analysis to choose MOACO parameter values is carried out by calculating hypervolume metric, and the proposed approach adopts the Vlsekriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno resenje(VIKOr) decision method to choose final compromised solution on the Pareto front obtained from MOACO. As a result, we used the MLP-MOACO developed model to estimate the value of engine emissions of NOxin a four stroke, spark ignition(SI) gasoline engine and observed acceptable correlation coefficient(r^2) of 0.99978.

Unlike other dung beetles, the Iberian geotrupid, Thorectes lusitanicus, exhibits polyphagous behavior; for example, it is able to eat acorns, fungi, fruits, and carrion in addition to the dung of different mammals. This adaptation to digest a wider diet has physiological and developmental advantages and requires key changes in the composition and diversity of the beetle＇s gut microbiota. In this study, we isolated aerobic, facultative anaerobic, and aerotolerant microbiota amenable to grow in culture from the gut contents of T. lusitanicus and resolved isolate identity to the species level by sequencing 16S rrNA gene fragments. Using BLAST similarity searches and maximum likelihood phylogenetic analyses, we were able to reveal that the analyzed fraction （culturable, aerobic, facultative anaerobic, and aerotolerant） of beetle gut microbiota is dominated by the phyla Pro- teobacteria, Firmicutes, and Actinobacteria. Among Proteobacteria, members of the order Enterobacteriales （Gammaproteobacteria） were the most abundant. The main functions associated with the bacteria found in the gut of T. lusitanicus would likely include nitrogen fixation, denitrification, detoxification, and diverse defensive roles against pathogens.

Induction motors are the most widespread rotating electrical machines in *** maintenance of the motors is of crucial importance due to the fact that unexpected faults in those machines can lead to huge economic losses for the corresponding *** recent years,there is an increasing use of industrial induction motors operated by different types of drives,which have different *** them,the use of soft-starters has proliferated due to the inherent benefits provided by these drives:they damp the high starting currents,enabling the soft startup of the motors and avoiding undesirable commutation transients introduced by other starting *** spite of these advantages,they do not avoid the possible occurrence of rotor damages,one of the most common faults in this type of *** works have proposed predictive maintenance techniques that are aimed to diagnose the rotor condition in soft-started machines and even fewer have demonstrated the validity of their methods in real *** work presents,for the first time,the massive validation of a rotor fault diagnosis methodology in soft-started induction *** and laboratory and induction motors started under different types of soft-starters and with diverse rotor fault conditions are considered in the *** results prove the potential of the approach for the reliable assessment of the rotor condition in such machines.

Certain traits of recipient environments,such as the availability of limiting resources,strongly determine the establishment success and spread of non-native *** limitations may be overcome through behavioral plasticity,allowing them to exploit alternative ***,we show how a secondary cavity nester bird,the rose-ringed parakeet Psittacula krameri,innovates its nesting behavior as a response to the shortage of tree cavities for nesting in its invasive range in Tenerife(Canary Islands).We observed that some breeding pairs excavated their own nest cavities in palms,thus becoming primary cavity nester,whereas others occupied nests built with wood sticks by another invasive species,the monk parakeet Myiopsitta *** use of these novel nesting strategies increased the number of breeding pairs by up to 52%over 6 years,contributing to a 128.8%increase of the whole *** nests were located at greater heights above ground and were more aggregated around conspecifics but did not result in greater breeding success than natural *** of monk parakeet colonies by rose-ringed parakeets also benefited the former species through a protective-nesting association against nest *** results show how an invasive species innovate nesting behaviors and increase nest-site availability in the recipient environment,thus facilitating its population growth and invasion *** behavioral innovations in other invasive rose-ringed parakeet populations may be overlooked,and should be considered for effective management plans.
