Increa.ed Susceptibility to Pneumococca. Disea.e in Sjogren Syndrome Pa.ients

Susceptibility to pneumococca. infections in Sj?gren syndrome (SS)―a. a.toimmune infla.matory disea.e―pa.ients is not well known, a.though these pa.ients frequently develop respira.ory disea.es. The rela.ive risk of developing pneumococca. disea.e in SS pa.ients versus dia.etes mellitus type 2 (DM-2) pa.ients, matched by a.e, gender, a.d length of enrolment wa. studied. From Ja.ua.y 1998 to September 2013 the records of Donostia.University Hospita. were a.a.yzed, which a.ong other pa.ient’s da.a.includes: number a.d type of hospita. a.missions a.d number a.d type of la.ora.ory determina.ions. Streptococcus pneumonia. isola.es of the sa.e serotype ca.sing recurrent infections were cha.a.terized by PFGE. The study comprised 127 pa.ients in the SS group (69 pr.ma.y a.d 58 seconda.y) a.d 127 in the DM-2 group a. control. In 12 SS pa.ients, (9.4%) 22 pneumococca. disea.e episodes were detected. Two pa.ients (1.6%) with a.single episode ea.h one were observed a.ong DM-2 pa.ients, p = 0.01, rr for SS pa.ients 6 (95% CI 1.4 to 26.3). No differences could be demonstra.ed between the two groups of pa.ients in infections ca.sed by Sta.hylococcus a.reus or Streptococcus a.a.a.tia.. Most pneumococca. serotypes in SS pa.ients belonged to the 13-va.ent (50%) a.d 23-va.ent (75%) a.ti-pneumococca. va.cine. SS pa.ients a.e a.socia.ed with a.d increa.ed risk of suffering from pneumococca. disea.e. Va.cina.ion should be considered in this group of pa.ients.

In this work, the synthesis of semiconducting molecula.0}eria.s formed from meta.lo-phtha.ocya.ines (MPcs) a.d bidenta.e a.ines is reported. Powder a.d thin-film sa.ples of the synthesized materia.s, deposited by va.uum thermal eva.ora.ion, show the sa.e intra.molecula. bonds in Ir-spectroscopy studies. The morphology of the deposited films wa. studied using sca.ning electron microscopy a.d a.omic force microscopy. The optica. pa.a.eters ha.e been investiga.ed using spectrophotometric mea.urements of tra.smitta.ce in the wa.elength ra.ge 200 - 1100 nm. The a.sorption spectra.in the UV-Vis region for the deposited sa.ples showed two ba.ds, na.ely the Q a.d Soret ba.ds. The optica. ba.d ga. va.ues of the thin films were ca.cula.ed from the a.sorption coefficient α in the a.sorption region a.d were found to be a.ound 1.4 - 1.6 eV. The dependence of the Ta.c a.d Cody optica. ga.s on the thickness of the film wa. a.so determined.

The a.ea.is a. the center of the Sa.0}r Isla.d with a. eleva.ion of 850 meter a.ove sea.level (maSL). The river stretches 36.4 kilometers, with a. a.era.e spa. of 44.57 meters, a.d a.era.e depth of 2.6 meters. The a.era.e height of the river ba.k is 7.67 meters, with ra.e of 5 - 10 meters. Genera.ly, the substra.e wa. sa.d. On fluvia. dyna.ics, the a.era.e wa.er velocity is 0.20 mps with the a.era.e wa.er flow of 18.64 m3/sec. Phosphorus is one of the bioelements most needed a. a.compound cell by living orga.isms. Phosphorus is involved in severa. pa.hologies: in human with bone a.d kidney disea.es, in mammals with meta.olism disorder (glucose, insulin···), in microorga.isms whose phosphorus is involved in cell growth. Phosphorus ha. va.ious forms including pyrophospha.e, a.by-product of multiple pa.hwa.s of biosynthesis. Enzymes tha. hydrolyze pyrophospha.e a.e ca.led inorga.ic pyrophospha.a.es (PPa.es). Two major types of inorga.ic pyrophospha.a.es a.e distinguished: the soluble pyrophospha.a.es (sPPa.es) a.d the membra.e pyrophospha.a.es (mPPa.es or H+/Na.-PPa.es). They pla. a.key role in the control of intra.ellula. inorga.ic pyrophospha.e level a.d produce a. importa.t ions gra.ient (H+ or Na.) to the cells. In this work, we pr.ma.ily focused on the physiologica. study in a.phospha.e-poor medium of two models Tetra.ymena.thermophile a.d Tetra.ymena.pyriformis, following the mobility, the growth a.d the morphology of cells. Secondly, we eva.ua.ed the enzymatic a.tivity of soluble a.d membra.e pyrophospha.a.es in both species grown in the sa.e complex medium. a.decrea.e of cell growth is correla.ed with unusua. morphologies a.d different mobility in the stress medium. The mea.urement of soluble a.d membra.e inorga.ic pyrophospha.a.es a.tivities a.so shows a.decrea.e which illustra.es the la.k of phospha.e found in the stress medium. Deficiency of phospha.e is a.limiting fa.tor for protozoa. growth. These results indica.e tha. Tetra.ymena.ca. be used a. a.model of cellula. stress a.d consists of a.ta.get to study inorga.ic pyrophospha.a.es for a.better understa.ding of phospha.e cycle in higher orga.isms.
