The last twenty million years(Maastrichtian–Santonian)of Southern Hemisphere plesiosaur history is especially well recorded in the Weddellian Province(Patagonia;Western Antarctica and New Zealand).The oldest Late Cretaceous plesiosaurs,two specimens referred to Polycotylidae indet.,come from the Santonian levels of the Santa Marta Formation,while the oldest elasmosaurids come from the lower Campanian of the same *** the lower Maastrichtian of the Snow Hill Island Formation the non-aristonectine elasmosaurid Vegasaurus molyi is recorded together with other non-diagnosable elasmosaurid specimens,but no aristonectines are *** appears in the Antarctic record in the upper Maastrichtian of the López de Bertodano Formation and are represented by Morturneria and *** specimens from the upper Campanian previously referred to Aristonectinae *** referred to Elasmosauridae indet.,shortening the temporal record of Aristonectinae in *** aristonectines appears in the Antarctic record in the upper Maastrichtian of the López de Bertodano Formation and are represented by Morturneria and *** Antarctic Cretaceous elasmosaurids show a paleobiogeographic connection with South America and New Zealand(Weddellian Province).This connection is indicated by the shared presence of the Aristonectinae Kaiwhekea katiki(New Zealand)and Aristonectes(Argentina and Chile).Recent phylogenetic analysis recovered the aristonectines within the Weddellonectia clade,which includes the aristonectines and the non-aristonectines Vegasaurus molyi(Isla Vega,Antarctica);Kawanectes lafquenianum(Argentina);Morenosaurus stocki and Aphrosaurus furlongi(California).Among the Weddellonectia,the aristonectines show a relatively large body size and extremely derived features and probably occupied a trophic niche that differed from the trophic niche of other *** way of contrast Kawanectes lafquenianum is an extremely small body-

AIM: To evaluate if canine models are appropriate for teaching endoscopy fellows the techniques of endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). METHoDS: ESD was performed in 10 canine models under general anesthesia, on artificial lesions of the esophagus or stomach marked with coagulation points. After ESD, each canine model was euthanized and surgical resection of the esophagus or stomach was carried out according to "The Principles of Humane Experimental Technique, Russel and Burch". The ESD specimens were fixed with needles on cork submerged in a formol solution with the esophagus or stomach, and delivered to the pathology department to be analyzed. RESULTS: ESD was completed without complications using the Hook-knife in five esophageal areas, with a procedural duration of 124 ± 19 min, a length of 27.4 ± 2.6 mm and a width of 21 ± 2.4 mm. ESD was also completed without complications using the IT-knife2 in five gastric areas, with a procedural duration of 92.6 ± 19 min, a length of 32 ± 2.5 mm and a width of 18 ± 3.7 mm. CoNCLUSIoN: ESD is feasible in the normal esopha- gus and stomach of canine models, which are appropriate for teaching this technique.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is the most common cause of liver disease worldwide,and its prevalence increases *** it predisposes to hepatocellular carcinoma both in the presence and in the absence of cirrhosis,it is not surprising that the incidence of NAFLD-related hepatocellular carcinoma would also *** of the mechanisms involved in hepatocarcinogenesis are particular to individuals with fatty liver,and they help explain why liver cancer develops even in patients without *** and immune-mediated mechanisms seem to play an important role in the development of hepatocellular carcinoma in this ***,it is consensual that patients with NAFLD-related cirrhosis should be surveilled with ultrasonography every 6 mo(with or without alpha-fetoprotein),but it is known that they are less likely to follow this recommendation than individuals with other kinds of liver ***,the performance of the methods of surveillance are lower in NAFLD than they are in other liver ***,it is not clear which subgroups of patients without cirrhosis should undergo *** the mechanisms of hepatocarcinogenesis in NAFLD could hopefully lead to the identification of biomarkers to be used in the surveillance for liver cancer in these *** improving surveillance,tumors could be detected in earlier stages,amenable to curative treatments.

Purification and characterization of a thermostable glutamate dehydrogenase from a thermophilic microorganism from Deception Island, Antarctica

Glutamate dehydrogenase （GDH） catalyzes the oxidative deamination of glutamate to a-ketoglutarate and ammonium ions. Currently the determination of ammonium and glutamate is carried out using a bovine GDH enzyme, which lacks optimal thermostability for long term storage at room temperature. From samples of Deception Island, Antarctica, we obtained the thermophilic bacteria PID 15 belonging to the Bacillus genera with high GDH specific activity. This new enzyme exhibited NAD＋ dependent activity and no activity was observed when NADP＋ was used. This enzyme shows a specific activity of 4.7 ***-1 for the oxidative deamination reaction and 15.4 U·mg-1 for the reduction of a-ketoglutarate. This enzyme has an optimum temperature of 65℃ and pH of 8.5 for the oxidative deamination. For the reduction of a-ketoglutarate, the optimum temperature is 60℃, with a pH of 8.0. one of the most important characteristics of this enzyme is its ability to retain more than 60% of its activity when it is incubated for 8 h at 65℃. The enzyme is also able to retain full activity when it is incubated for 48 d at 4℃ and over 80% of its activity when it is incubated at 25℃. Characterization of its kinetics suggests that it primarily catalyzes the formation of α-ketoglutarate. This enzyme has an important biological role in the catabolism of glutamate and may have some interesting biotechnological applications based on its thermostable properties.

Characterization of Stone Slurry Waste for Reutilization Purposes as Building Construction Material

Brazil is the 4th biggest dimension stone producer and the 7th greatest exporter. Due to its large stone production, Brazil faces a challenge, which is to find appropriate destination to the huge volume of generated waste throughout the process, mostly slurry from sawing process. Predominantly, Brazilian production comes from the state of Espirito Santo. In this region, frequently the slurry waste generated is stocked in industries own area or even dumped on unauthorized open sites. Researchers search for applications to the slurry stone waste as an industrial raw material. However, a gap persists between the results already achieved and a methodology to rational and economical affordable application. This paper aims to analyze physical, chemical and mineralogical the powder wastes produced by conventional metallic blades loom (DSPW-CL) and diamond wire loom (DSPW-DL) during stone processing to promote its valorization as a building construction material. This could mitigate dimension stone industry impact and improve life quality around the areas of production.
