Objective:Primary sclerosing cholangitis(PSC)occurs in approximately 5%of patients with ulcerative colitis(UC).The risk of colon cancer is higher in patients undergoing colectomy,who have simultaneous PSC&*** aim was to study the impact,in terms of post-colectomy survival and complications,of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt(TIPS)before colectomy in these ***:In this retrospective,case-control study,information was obtained on demographics,disease characteristics,TIPS characteristics,and post-colectomy *** patients with PSC and UC who underwent TIPS prior to colectomy(the Study group)and 37 patients with PSC and UC who underwent only colectomy without TIPS(the Control group)were *** an analysis of variance or the non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis test were used for continuous variables and Fisher’s Exact test or Pearson’s chi-squared test was used for categorical ***:There was no difference in themean age between the two groups;however patients in the Study group had lower platelet count(P=0.005)as well as higher Model for End-Stage Liver disease(MELD)scores(P<0.001).Also,patients in the Study group had increased PSC severity as determined by Mayo PSC Risk Scores(1.50 vs.0.20)(P=0.001).Total bilirubin levels were higher in the Study group(2.3 vs.0.8mg/dL)(P=0.011).Comparing the post-operative complication rates without adjusting for disease severity,the Study group hadmore wound infections(P=0.034),more wound dehiscence(P=0.022),and a higher re-admission rate within 30 days(P=0.032);however,the post-operativemortality was not significantly ***:Patients with PSC and UC who underwent TIPS prior to colectomy had higher rates of complications;however,this was probably due to the greater severity of cirrhosis and PSC in this population.

Larch wood is structurally classifi ed in many countries as one of conifers with the highest load-bearing capacity(strength class of C30).The Spanish visual classifi cation regulation only assigns a strength class to 4 pine woods:Laricio pine(Pinus nigra ***),Silvestre pine(Pinus sylvestris L.),Radiata pine(Pinus radiata ***),and Pinaster pine(Pinus pinaster Ait.).This work adds to the number of structurally characterised species by creating a visual classifi cation table for Japanese larch wood(Larix kaempferi(Lamb.)Carr.)which diff erentiates between 2 visual classes,MEG-1 and *** strength values were calculated for each class(fk,MEG-1=31.80 MPa,f k,MEG-2=24.55 MPa),mean module of elasticity(E 0,mean,MEG-1=13,082 MPA,E 0,mean,MEG-2=12,320 MPA)and density(ρk,MEG-1=456.6 kg m−3,ρk,MEG-2=469.1 kg m−3),before fi nally assigning a strength class of C30 to visual class MEG-1,and a strength class of C24 to visual class MEG-2.

AIM To evaluate the real-world effectiveness of golimumab in ulcerative colitis(UC) and to identify predictors of *** We conducted an observational, prospective and multi-center study in UC patients treated with golimumab, from September 2014 to September 2015. Clinical activity was assessed at wk 0 and 14 with the physician's global clinical assessment(PGA) and the partial Mayo score. Colonoscopies and blood tests were performed, following daily-practice clinical criteria, and the results were recorded in an SPSS *** Thirty-three consecutive patients with moderately to severely active UC were included. Among them, 54.5% were female and 42 years was the average age. Thirty percent had left-sided UC(E2) and 70% had extensive UC(E3). All patients had an endoscopic Mayo score of 2 or 3 at baseline. Twenty-seven point three percent were anti-tumor necrosis factor(TNF) treatment na?ve, whereas 72.7% had previously received infliximab and/or adalimumab. Sixty-nine point seven percent showed clinical response and were steroid-free at wk 14(a decrease from baseline in the partial Mayo score of at least 3 points). Based on PGA, the clinical remission and clinical response rates were 24% and 55% respectively. Withdrawal of corticosteroids was observed in 70.8% of steroid-dependent patients at the end of the study. Three out of 10 clinical non-responders needed a colectomy. Mean fecal calprotectin value at baseline was 300 μg/g, and 170.5 μg/g at wk 14. Being anti-TNF treatment na?ve was a protection factor, which was related to better chances of reaching clinical remission. Twenty-seven point three percent of the patients required treatment intensification at 14 wk of followup. The use of metal-accumulating plants for the phytoremediation of contaminated soils is gaining more attention. Mercury （Hg）-contaminated soils from historical gold mines represent a potential risk to human health and the environment. Therefore, Jatropha curcas plant, that has shown its tolerance to these environments, is a species of particular interest to implement phytoremediation techniques in gold mining sites. In this work, the behavior of J. curcas was assessed in different hydroponic cultures fortified with Hg at concentrations of 5, 10, 20, 40, and 80μg Hg/mL （T5, T10, T20, T40 and T80, respectively）. After exposure, plant growth, net photosynthesis, leaf area, and Hg accumulation were determined and variables such as net Hg uptake, effective Hg accumulation, translocation and bioaccumu- lation factors were calculated. Accumulation of Hg in root and leaf tissues increased with respect to the Hg concentrations in the hydroponic culture, with statistically significant differences （p 〈 0.05） among treatments. Moreover, Hg concentration in roots was 7 and 12-fold higher in average than in plant leaves and shoots, respectively. Many effects were found in the development of plants, especially related with loss of biomass and leaf area, with significant growth inhibition related to control values （〉50% with treatment T5）. Moreover, percentage of inhibition was even higher （〉60%） with same treatment for net photosynthesis. Finally, it should be highlighted that for T40 and T80 treatments, plant growth and photosynthesis were almost completely depleted （88%-95%）.
