Colorectal cancer is one of the most prevalent tumours,but with improved treatment and early detection,its prognosis has greatly improved in recent years.However,when the tumour is locally advanced at diagnosis or if there is local recurrence,it is more difficult to perform a complete tumour resection,and there may be a residual macroscopic tumour.In this paper,we review the literature on residual macroscopic tumour resections,concerning both locally advanced primary tumours and recurrences,evaluating the main problems encountered,the treatments applied,the prognosis and future perspectives in this field.

Overexpression of neurotrophic factors in nigral dopamine neurons is a promising approach to reverse neurodegeneration of the nigrostriatal dopamine system,a hallmark in Parkinson's disease.The human cerebral dopamine neurotrophic factor(h CDNF)has recently emerged as a strong candidate for Parkinson's disease therapy.This study shows that h CDNF expression in dopamine neurons using the neurotensinpolyplex nanoparticle system reverses 6-hydroxydopamine-induced morphological,biochemical,and behavioral alterations.Three independent electron microscopy techniques showed that the neurotensin-polyplex nanoparticles containing the h CDNF gene,ranging in size from 20 to 150 nm,enabled the expression of a secretable h CDNF in vitro.Their injection in the substantia nigra compacta on day 21 after the 6-hydroxydopamine lesion resulted in detectable h CDNF in dopamine neurons,whose levels remained constant throughout the study in the substantia nigra compacta and striatum.Compared with the lesioned group,tyrosine hydroxylase-positive(TH^(+))nigral cell population and TH+fiber density rose in the substantia nigra compacta and striatum after h CDNF transfection.An increase inβIII-tubulin and growth-associated protein 43 phospho-S41(GAP43 p)followed TH^(+)cell recovery,as well as dopamine and its catabolite levels.Partial reversal(80%)of drugactivated circling behavior and full recovery of spontaneous motor and non-motor behavior were achieved.Brain-derived neurotrophic factor recovery in dopamine neurons that also occurred suggests its participation in the neurotrophic effects.These findings support the potential of nanoparticle-mediated h CDNF gene delivery to develop a disease-modifying treatment against Parkinson's disease.The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee of Centro de Investigación y de Estudios Avanzados approved our experimental procedures for animal use(authorization No.162-15)on June 9,2019.

In Spain,the proportion of elderly individuals has increased to 19.1%.By 2068,the proportion of elderly individuals is estimated to increase to 29.4% given the largest birth cohorts in Spain’s history(Instituto Nacional de Estadistica,INE).This challenge needs a supportive plan,as economic and caring problems may occur because of age-related health problems,including cognitive decline and dementia[1].

Endoscopic ultrasonography(EUS) with or without fine needle aspiration has become the main technique for evaluating pancreatobiliary disorders and has proved to have a higher diagnostic yield than positron emission tomography,computed tomography(CT) and transabdominal ultrasound for recognising early pancreatic tumors.As a diagnostic modality for pancreatic cancer,EUS has proved rates higher than 90%,especially for lesions less than 2-3 cm in size in which it reaches a sensitivity rate of 99% vs 55% for CT.Besides,EUS has a very high negative predictive value and thus EUS can reliably exclude pancreatic cancer.The complication rate of EUS is as low as 1.1%-3.0%.New technical developments such as elastography and the use of contrast agents have recently been applied to EUS,improving its diagnostic capability.EUS has been found to be superior to the recent multidetector CT for T stagingwith less risk of overstaying in comparison to both CT and magnetic resonance imaging,so that patients are not being ruled out of a potentially beneficial resection.The accuracy for N staging with EUS is 64%-82%.In unresectable cancers,EUS also plays a therapeutic role by means of treating oncological pain through celiac plexus block,biliary drainage in obstructive jaundice in patients where endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography is not affordable and aiding radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

Purpose： The main goal of this study is to discover the scientific evolution of Cancer-Related Symptoms in Complementary and Alternative Medicine research area, analyzing the articles indexed in the Web of Science database from 1980 to 2013.Design/Methodology/Approach： A co-word science mapping analysis is performed under a longitudinal framework（1980 to 2013）. The documental corpus is divided into two subperiods,1980–2008 and 2009–2013. Thus, the performance and impact rates, and conceptual evolution of the research field are shown.Findings： According to the results, the co-word analysis allows us to identify 12 main thematic areas in this emerging research field： anxiety, survivors and palliative care,meditation, treatment, symptoms and cancer types, postmenopause, cancer pain, low back pain, herbal medicine, children, depression and insomnia, inflammation mediators, and lymphedema. The different research lines are identified according to the main thematic areas,centered fundamentally on anxiety and suffering prevention. The scientific community can use this information to identify where the interest is focused and make decisions in different ways.Research limitation： Several limitations can be addressed： 1） some of the Complementary and Alternative Medicine therapies may not have been included; 2） only the documents indexed in Web of Science are analyzed; and 3） the thematic areas detected could change if another dataset was considered.Practical implications： The results obtained in the present study could be considered as an evidence-based framework in which future studies could be built.Originality/value： Currently, there are no studies that show the thematic evolution of this research area.

Pancreaticoduodenectomy(PD) is the standard surgical treatment for tumors of the pancreatic head,proximal bile duct,duodenum and ampulla,and represents the only hope of cure in cases of malignancy.Since its initial description in 1935 by Whipple et al,this complex surgical technique has evolved and undergone several modifications.We review three key issues in PD:(1) the initial approach to the superior mesenteric artery,known as the artery-first approach;(2) arterial complications caused by anatomic variants of the hepatic artery or celiac artery stenosis;and(3) the extent of lymphadenectomy.

Supported Ru catalysts were prepared by wet impregnation to evaluate the role of different oxide supports(Al_2O_3,SiO_2,TiO_2,ZrO_2) in sorbitol hydrogenolysis to glycols.X-ray diffraction,transmission electron microscopy,hydrogen chemisorption,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,and NH3temperature-programmed desorption were used to characterize the catalysts,which were active in the hydrogenolysis of sorbitol.The support affected both the physicochemical properties and catalytic behavior of the supported Ru particles.The characterization results revealed that the Ru/Al_2O_3catalyst has a high surface acidity,partially oxidized Ru species on the surface,and a higher surface Ru/Al atomic ratio,which gave it the highest selectivity and yield to glycols.
