Plant-based bioproduction of insect sex pheromones has been proposed as an innovative strategy to increase the sustainability of pest control in ***,we describe the engineering of transgenic plants producing(Z)-11-hexadecenol(Z11-16OH)and(Z)-11-hexadecenyl acetate(Z11-16OAc),two main volatile components in many lepidoptera sex pheromone *** assembled multigene DNA constructs encoding the pheromone biosynthetic pathway and stably transformed them into Nicotiana benthamiana *** constructs contained the Amyelois transitella AtrΔ11 desaturase gene,the Helicoverpa armigera fatty acyl reductase HarFAR gene,and the Euonymus alatus diacylglycerol acetyltransferase EaDAct gene in different *** the pheromone-producing plants showed dwarf phenotypes,the severity of which correlated with pheromone *** but one of the recovered lines produced high levels of Z11-16OH,but very low levels of Z11-16OAc,probably as a result of recurrent truncations at the level of the EaDAct *** one plant line(SxPv1.2)was recovered that harboured an intact pheromone pathway and which produced moderate levels of Z11-16OAc(11.8μg g^(-1) FW)and high levels of Z11-16OH(111.4μg g^(-1)).Z11-16OAc production was accompanied in SxPv1.2 by a partial recovery of the dwarf ***1.2 was used to estimate the rates of volatile pheromone release,which resulted in 8.48 ng g-1 FW per day for Z11-16OH and 9.44 ng g^(-1 )FW per day for *** results suggest that pheromone release acts as a limiting factor in pheromone biodispenser strategies and establish a roadmap for biotechnological improvements.

The use of batteries in UAVs （unmanned aerial vehicles） has become common due to some advantages in comparison with internal combustion engines such as weight reduction and better power control. However, in these vehicles it is critical to monitor the RUl （remaining useful life） of the batteries. This information can be used, for instance, as a decision support tool to define which missions could be assigned to the UAV until the next battery recharge. This work presents a methodology to predict the RUl of li-Po （lithium-Polymer） batteries. The approach uses an extended Kalman filter and an exponential model for the degradation evolution. The proposed methodology uses time series of battery terminal voltages, assuming that the discharge occurs under a constant current condition. Different discharge current levels were *** results showed that the proposed methodology provides good results, despite its simplicity.

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine if pregnancy outcome for women undergoing in vitro fertilization is correlated with pre-conception thyroid-stimulating hormone level. Study design: We performed a retrospective cohort study of in vitro fertilization cycles in our private practice with an initial positive serum human chorionic gonadotropin level and thyroid-stimulating hormone level available (n = 364). We examined whether or not birth outcome differed between cycles in which the thyroid-stimulating hormone was > 2.5 mIU/l compared with cycles with a thyroid-stimulating hormone level of ≤ 2.5 mIU/l. logistic regression was used to determine the association between thyroid-stimulating hormone level and spontaneous abortion rate. Results: Delivery outcome was available for 195 cycles, 36% of which had a thyroid-stimulating hormone level > 2.5. The gestational age at delivery was higher in cycles with a thyroid-stimulating hormone ≤ 2.5 than for cycles with a thyroid-stimulating hormone > 2.5 (38.5 vs 38.0 weeks for singletons, 36.0 vs 34.6 weeks for twins, overall P = .012 for thyroid-stimulating hormone level). The mean birth weight for cycles with a thyroid-stimulating hormone ≤ 2.5 was higher than for cycles with a thyroid-stimulating hormone > 2.5 (7.33 vs 6.78 lbs for singletons, P = .024 and 5.36 vs 4.83 lbs for twins, P = .023). Restricting analysis to cycles where the woman was not taking thyroid replacement did not change the overall conclusions. There was a trend toward increasing risk of miscarriage with increasing thyroid-stimulating hormone level in nondonor cycles, controlling for age and day 3 follicle-stimulating hormone level, but this trend did not reach statistical significance. Conclusion: A pre-conce-ption thyroid-stimulating hormone level > 2.5 mIU/l is associated with a lower gestational age at delivery and lower birth weight in women undergoing in vitro fertilization.

One of the clear signals of the ongoing climate change is sea level rise (SlR). Normal oceanic tides superimposed on a rising sea level and coastal flooding will affect many coastal communities. An international collaboration among Brazil, the United Kingdom, and the United States was designed to evaluate local decision making processes and to open space for local urban managers to reflect on possible actions toward adaption to sea level rise given the historical constraints imposed by administrative and institutional structures. This project focused on the processes that shape adaptation of three coastal communities in three countries. It worked jointly with these communities in defining the problem, examining risks, and understanding the benefits and obstacles that may hinder implementation of adaptation options. The framework was co-designed by an interdisciplinary team that incorporated social and natural scientists from the three countries, including local government officials. The study addressed 1) evaluation of adaptive capacity through participant surveys and 2) physical and cost impact simulations using geospatial models of the built infrastructure and implementation of adaptation options under different hazard scenarios, including 50 and 100-year sea level rise projections and severe storms. Based on the surveys’ results, there is a clear sense of the awareness of each community of the risk of floods due to intense storms, and of the usefulness of engaging early in a process that promotes the understanding of risks, impacts, and costs. A majority of workshop participants prioritized pursuing physical and green infrastructure actions now or within coming years or decades. A positive common aspect of the three sites was the commitment shown by the stakeholders in taking part in the process and evaluating which adaptation measures could be more effective in their cities. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of a hydrogymnastics training program on highsensitivity C-reactive protein in elderly women. The subjects were randomly divided into the experimental group who participates in the hydrogymnastics training program and the control group who was not involved in the training and remained sedentary. The serum levels of highsensitivity C-reactive protein were determined by immunoturbidimetry using C-reactive protein (CRP), the training protocol consisted of hydrogymnastics sessions 5 times per week during 12 weeks of intervention, executed in a pool of 1.3 meters divided into three phases: a 10-minute warm-up, 30 minutes of aerobic exercise at 50%-60% of maximum heart rate (monitored by heart rate monitor) and a 10-minute cool down. As a statistical method to compare the results between groups of variables pre and post training, the analysis of variance (ANOVA) mixed 2 × 2 (group × measurement) test was done using SPSS version 17. The founds showed significant changes in the level of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, and a greater percentage decrease of hs-CRP (Δ%= -37%, p = 0.001) in the experimental group in relation to the control ***, it can be inferred that a hydrogymnastics program is effective in reducing the metabolic rate of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein amongst elderly women.

Health Status of Urban Medium-low-Income Elderly at the Community

Background: Nonagenarians are uncommon in our population. The study aim was to profile physical mobility, declared health problems, hypertension and diabetes frequency, awareness, treated and good control in urban low-income elders. Method: The study had cross-sectional design in population sample. Subjects were urban men and women older than 59 years at the medium low income stratum at a developing country. Survey was carried out from October 2008 to October 2009. All elder dwellers in randomly selected houses were surveyed;clinical exam after consent. Good Control: Systolic/Diastolic Results: There were 162 elders, 53 (32.7%) were male, 99 (61.1%) were younger than 70 years. Forty nine (30.2%) had impaired mobility;among them 20 (55.6%) were bed or home restricted, and 29 (44.4%) needed help to go out. Unstable health condition was found in 36 (22.2%), with significantly more men 19 (52.8%) vs 34 (27.0%), X2 = 8.5, df1, P 0.05. The frequency, proportions for: known diagnosis, on treatment, and good control were 75 (69.4%), 55 (73.3%), 45 (60.0%) and 12 of 45 (26.7%) for hypertension;53 (49.1%), 47 (88.7%), 42 (79.2%) and 9 of 42 (21.4%) for diabetes. The most frequent unstable conditions were cardiovascular. Conclusions: Data suggest unstable health no association with the oldest old. The small proportion in good control of Diabetes and/or hypertension could explain the large frequency of elders with unstable health and prevention of reaching nonagenarian age.

This paper is the second in a series focused on providing a stable platform for the taxonomy of phytopathogenic *** focuses on 25 phytopathogenic genera:Alternaria,Bipolaris,Boeremia,Botryosphaeria,Calonectria,Coniella,Corticiaceae,Curvularia,Elsinoe,Entyloma,Erythricium,Fomitiporia,Fulviformes,laetisaria,limonomyces,Neofabraea,Neofusicoccum,Phaeoacremonium,Phellinotus,Phyllosticta,Plenodomus,Pseudopyricularia,Tilletia,Venturia and Waitea,using recent molecular data,up to date names and the latest taxonomic *** each genus a taxonomic background,diversity aspects,species identification and classification based on molecular phylogeny and recommended genetic markers are *** this study,varieties of the genus Boeremia have been elevated to species ***,Bipolaris,Curvularia,Neofusicoccum and Phyllosticta that were included in the One Stop Shop 1 paper are provided with updated entries,as many new species have been introduced to these genera.
