AIM:To compare the response to skin prick tests (SPTs) to food antigens (FAs) and inhalant allergens (IAs) in patients with two subtypes of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and healthy controls. METHODS:We compared the results of SPTs for IAs and FAs in 87 volunteers divided into three groups:diarrhea predominant IBS (D-IBS) GroupⅠ(n = 19), constipation predominant IBS (C-IBS) Group Ⅱ (n = 17), and normal controls Group Ⅲ (n = 51). RESULTS:Of the 285 tests (171 for FAs and 114 for IAs) performed in GroupⅠwe obtained 45 (26.3%) positive responses for FA and 23 (20.1%) for IA. Of the 153 tests for FA in Group Ⅱ, we obtained 66 (20.1%) positive responses, and of the 102 tests for IA, we obtained 20 (19.6%) positive responses. Of the 459 tests for FA performed in Group Ⅲ, we obtained 39 (84%) positive responses, and of the 306 for IA, we obtained 52 (16.9%) positive responses. The numbers of positive responses were not significantly different between the three groups, but in the D-IBS group, the number of SPTFA responses differed significantly from those for the other two groups (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION:Despite the small number of cases studied, the higher reactivity to FAs in GroupⅠcompared to Groups Ⅱ and Ⅲ adds new information, and suggests the presence of a possible alteration in intestinal epithelial function.

The aim of this study was to evaluate injectable,in situ cross-linkable elastin-like recombinamers(ELRs)for osteochondral *** the ELR-based hydrogel alone and the ELR-based hydrogel embedded with rabbit mesenchymal stromal cells(rMSCs)were tested for the regeneration of critical subchondral defects in 10 New Zealand ***,cylindrical osteochondral defects were filled with an aqueous solution of ELRs and the animals sacrificed at 4months for histological and gross evaluation of features of biomaterial performance,including integration,cellular infiltration,surrounding matrix quality and the new matrix in the *** both approaches helped cartilage regeneration,the results suggest that the specific composition of the rMSC-containing hydrogel permitted adequate bone regeneration,whereas the ELR-based hydrogel alone led to an excellent regeneration of hyaline *** conclusion,the ELR cross-linker solution can be easily delivered and forms a stable well-integrated hydrogel that supports infiltration and de novo matrix synthesis.

The soil carbon pool which is the sum of soil organic carbon(SOC)and soil inorganic carbon(SIC)is the second largest active store of carbon after the oceans and it is an important component of the global carbon ***,accurate estimation of SOC and SIC as important carbon reservoirs in terrestrial ecosystems using fast,inexpensive and non-destructive methods is crucial for planning different climate change *** aim of the current research was to examine the effectiveness of Vis-NIR(visible and near-infrared spectroscopy:350-2500 nm)and MIR(mid-infrared spectroscopy:4000-400 cm-1)to characterize and estimate soil organic matter(SOM)and carbonates as main components of soil carbon stocks in Juneqan,Charmahal va Bakhtiari,*** do so,a total of 548 soil samples from this area were collected(October 2015)and analyzed in laboratory(August 2017).In order to develop models capable of predicting SOM and carbonates content,seven spectral preprocessing methods comprising Absorbance(Abs),De-trending(Det),Continuum removal(CR),Savitzky-Golay derivatives(SGD),standard normal variate transformation(SNV),multiplicative scatter correction(MSC)and Normalization by range(NBR)were conducted along with five multivariate methods including Random Forest(RF),Partial Least-Squares Regression(PlsR),Artificial Neural Network(ANN),Support Vector Machine(SVM)and Gaussian Process Regression(GPR).The content of carbonates caused spectral reflectance intensity to augment on several ranges of spectrum and strong absorption feature at 2338 nm in the Vis-NIR and 714,850,870,1796,2150 and 2510 cm-1 in the MIR spectra *** absorbed energy in several ranges,but also showed specific peaks in *** facts are associated with the structure of carbonates and SOM and its interaction with *** best combination of preprocessing and calibration models for carbonates quantification in Vis-NIR spectra was Det/PlsR(R2=0.74,RPD=2.19,RMSE=6.45).For SOM,it was Det/PlsR(R2=0.82,RPD=2.41,RM

For gaining fundamental insight into coating wear mechanisms and increasing operational efficiency and automation degree of equipment in important application fields of coating techniques,it is of great importance to developing novel wear measurement techniques enabling nanoscale studies of coating wear in the running process,but this remains a significant ***,a facile strategy is reported to achieve accurate coating thickness quantification at nanoscale level,which is based on a bilayer structure:a top target layer of a-C:H(hydrogenated amorphous carbon)film is considered as a light attenuating and anti-wear layer while underlayer of silicon serves as Raman-sensing *** constructing the relationship between the thickness of a-C:H and Raman intensity of attenuated silicon signal,the coating thickness quantification method is established and successfully applied to quantify coating wear in the friction *** approach can effectively avoid remarkable errors caused by tribo-induced effects in the interface regions,demonstrating its advantage in error *** about these tribo-induced effects are also elucidated by a combination of Raman spectroscopy,optical profilometer,EEls,and *** particular,the proposed approach enables the possibility of measuring coating wear with oil film on top,which breaks an important limitation of existed wear measurement methods,i.e.,incapable of applying in oil-lubricated *** approach can be used to quantify the wear condition of diverse target coatings and has the potential of online wear monitoring when combining a compact laser excitation and detection system.

Methods developed to isolate intact cells from both unripe and ripe tomato fruit pericarp parenchyma have allowed the cell biological analysis of polysaccharide epitopes at the surface of separated cells. The LM7 pectic homogalacturonan epitope is a marker of the junctions of adhesion planes and intercellular spaces in parenchyma systems. The LM7 epitope persistently marked the former edge of adhesion planes at the surface of cells separated from unripe and ripened tomato fruit and also from fruits with the Cnr mutation. The LM 11 xylan epitope was associated, in sections, with cell walls lining intercellular space but the epitope was not detected at the surface of isolated cells, being lost during cell isolation. The LM15 xyloglucan epitope was present at the surface of cells isolated from unripe fruit in a pattern reflecting the former edge of cell adhesion planes/intercellular space but with gaps and apparent breaks. An equivalent pattern of LM15 epitope occurrence was revealed at the surface of cells isolated by pectate lyase action but was not present in cells isolated from ripe fruit or from Cnr fruit. In contrast to wild-type cells, the LM5 galactan and LM21 mannan epitopes occurred predominantly in positions reflecting intercellular space in Cnr, suggesting a concerted alteration in cell wall microstructure in response to this mutation. Galactanase and mannanase, along with pectic homogalacturonan-degrading enzymes, were capable of releasing cells from unripe fruit parenchyma. These observations indicate that hemicellulose polymers are present in architectural contexts reflecting cell adhesion and that several cell wall polysaccharide classes are likely to contribute to cell adhesion/cell separation in tomato fruit pericarp parenchyma.

Objective To determine whether topical applications of thiosulfinate-enriched Allium sativum extract(TASE)can accelerate acute cutaneous wound healing(WH)in a murine *** Keratinocyte viability and in vitro wound closure were assessed in keratinocyte *** of topical TASE(0.5μg/mL of allicin in 97%ethanol)on acute cutaneous WH were determined in a murine model of acute cutaneous *** mice were alternately assigned to the vehicle-and TASE-treated groups(n=6 per group).Expression levels of mRNA for keratinocyte differentiation marker-related proteins(filaggrin,loricrin and involucrin)and lipid synthetic enzymes(elongation of very long chain fatty acids protein 4(ELOVL4),fatty acid synthase(FA2H),3-hydroxy-3-methyl-glutaryl-coenzyme A reductase(HMGCoA),and serine palmitoyltransferase(SPT))were assessed using real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction on day 3 and 8 after wounding,while transepidermal water loss(TEWL)rates were measured in wounded *** TASE accelerated WH both in vivo(40%vs.22%reduction in wound area,Pls of epidermal mRNA for ELOVL4,HMGCoA,SPT,filaggrin,loricrin and involucrin(Pls)on day 3 after ***,TASE significantly lowered TEWL rates in comparison with vehicle alone on day 8(33.06±2.09 g/(m^2·h)vs.24.60±2.04 g/(m^2·h),P<0.01).Conclusions Topical applications of TASE stimulated keratinocyte proliferation and formation of epidermal permeability barrier function,leading to acceleration of acute cutaneous *** products containing TASE could be used to manage acute cutaneous WH.
