This paper presents an investigation on dielectric and mechanical nonlinear properties in Mn-doped PMN-35PT ceramics. The structural study of the ceramics verifies that the 1% mol Mn doped PMN-35PT is a pure perovskite phase with a tetragonal symmetry. SEM micrograph shows the same microstructural mor- phology of an undoped ceramic. From the EPR spectra, it has been concluded that the major part of Mn is present in Mn2+ rather than in Mn4+ form. The addition of Mn2+ ions acts on the dielectric, piezoelectric and mechanical properties by decreasing the relative dielectric permittivity (3800 to 2074), the dielectric losses (0.60 to 0.53), the piezoelectric coefficient d33 (650 to 403 pC/N), and increasing the mechanical quality fac- tor Qm (78 to 317). It was found that in Mn2+ doped ceramics the dielectric response can not be described by Rayleigh law. This result can be understood taking into account that reversible motion of the domain wall is a relevant contribution to response of this material.

Background:Traumatic pancreatic injuries are rare,and guidelines specifying management are controversial and difficult to apply in the acute clinical *** to sparse data on these injuries,we carried out a retrospective review to determine outcomes following surgical or non-surgical management of traumatic pancreatic *** hypothesize a higher morbidity and mortality rate in patients treated surgically when compared to patients treated ***:We performed a retrospective review of data from four trauma centers in New York from 1990–2014,comparing patients who had blunt traumatic pancreatic injuries who were managed operatively to those managed *** compared continuous variables using the Mann-Whitney U test and categorical variables using the chi-square and Fisher’s exact *** analysis was performed to determine the possible confounding factors associated with mortality in both treatment ***:Twenty nine patients were managed operatively and 32 *** was a significant difference between the operative and non-operative groups in median age(37.0 vs.16.2 years,P=0.016),grade of pancreatic injury(grade I;30.8 vs.85.2%,P value for all comparisons<0.0001),median injury severity score(ISS)(16.0 vs.4.0,P=0.002),blood transfusion(55.2 vs.15.6%,P=0.0012),other abdominal injuries(79.3 vs.38.7%,P=0.0014),pelvic fractures(17.2 vs.0.00%,P=0.020),intensive care unit(ICU)admission(86.2 vs.50.0%,P=0.003),median length of stay(LOS)(16.0 vs.4.0 days,P<0.0001),and mortality(27.6 vs.3.1%,P=0.010).Conclusions:Patients with traumatic pancreatic injuries treated operatively were more severely injured and suffered greater complications than those treated *** greater morbidity and mortality associated with these patients warrants further study to determine optimal triage strategies and which subset of patients is likely to benefit from surgery.

目的:研究急性和慢性特发性中心性浆液性脉络膜视网膜病变眼底自发荧光影像模式及眼底荧光血管造影相关性发现。方法:观察性研究案例。回顾性分析中心性浆液性脉络膜视网膜病变患者临床数据,眼底荧光血管造影及眼底自发荧光影像,并对其调查结果进行比较。结果:该研究共纳入17例25眼。确诊为急性中心性浆液性脉络膜视网膜病变5眼,慢性疾病或复发性慢性疾病20眼。急性病例眼底自发荧光影像显示低荧光点与荧光血管造影检测出的荧光渗漏点位置相同。慢性特发性中心性浆液性脉络膜视网膜病变眼底荧光血管造影为视网膜色素上皮弥漫性萎缩区域,可透视荧光。眼底自发荧光影像的低荧光区域的形态和位置与眼底荧光血管造影的高荧光区域相对应,然而眼底荧光血管造影的低荧光区域与眼底自发荧光影像的高荧光区域相对应。在急性病例中,低自发荧光点不能准确指出视网膜色素上皮的渗漏点。结论:中心性浆液性脉络膜视网膜病变眼底自发荧光影像模式能够描述疾病不同阶段的特征,具有无风险和可再生性,可替代荧光素血管造影术治疗中心性浆液性脉络膜视网膜病变。

Novel approaches for high contrast, deep tissue, in vivo fluorescence biomedical imaging are based on infrared-emitting nanoparticles working in the so-called second biological window （1,000-1,400 nm）. This allows for the acquisition of high resolution, deep tissue images due to the partial transparency of tissues in this particular spectral range. In addition, the optical excitation with low energy （infrared） photons also leads to a drastic reduction in the contribution of autofluorescence to the in vivo image. Nevertheless, as is demonstrated here, working solely in this biological window does not ensure a complete removal of autofluorescence as the specimens diet shows a remarkable infrared fluorescence that extends up to 1,100 nm. In this work, we show how the 1,340 nm emission band of Nd3. ions embedded in SrF2 nanoparticles can be used to produce autofluorescence free, high contrast in vivo fluorescence images. It is also dem- onstrated that the complete removal of the food-related infrared autofluorescence is imperative for the development of reliable biodistribution studies.

Objective: Single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the ataxia telangiectasiaemutated gene ATM have been linked with pneumonitis after radiotherapy for lung cancer but have not been evaluated in terms of pulmonary function impairment. Here we investigated potential associations between SNPs in ATM and changes in diffusing capacity of the lung for carbon monoxide (DLCO) in patients with nonesmall-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) after radiotherapy. Methods: From November 1998 through June 2009, 448 consecutive patients with inoperable primary NSCLC underwent definitive (≥60 Gy) radiotherapy, with or without chemotherapy. After excluding patients with a history of thoracic surgery, ra-diation, or lung cancer; without DNA samples available for analysis; or without pulmonary function testing within the 12 months before and the 12 months after radiotherapy, 100 patients were identified who are the subjects of this study. We genotyped two SNPs of ATM previously found to be associated with radiation-induced pneumonitis (rs189037 and rs228590) and evaluated potential correlations between these SNPs and impairment (decreases) in DLCO by using logistic regression analysis. Results: Univariate and multivariate analyses showed that the AA genotype of ATM rs189037 was associated with decreased DLCO after definitive radiotherapy than the GG/AG genotypes (univariate coefficient, -0.122; 95％ confidence interval (CI),-0.236 to -0.008; P = 0.037; and multivariate coefficient, -0.102; 95％ CI, -0.198 to -0.005; P = 0.038)No such correlations were found for rs228590 (univariate coefficient, -0.096; 95％ CI, -0.208 to 0.017; P = 0.096). Conclusions: The AA genotype of ATM rs189037 was associated with higher risk of lung injury than were the GG/AG genotypes in patients with NSCLC treated with radiotherapy. This finding should be validated prospectively with other patient populations.

AIM: To compare the open and laparoscopic Hartmann’s reversal in patients first treated for complicated ***: Forty-six consecutive patients with diverticular disease were included in this retrospective,singlecenter study of a prospectively maintained colorectal surgery *** patients underwent conventional Hartmann’s procedures for acute complicated *** indications for Hartmann’s procedures were *** underwent open(OHR) or laparoscopic Hartmann’s reversal(LHR) between 2000 and 2010,and received the same pre-and post-operative protocols of *** variables,length of stay,short-(at 1 mo) and long-term(at 1 and 3 years) postoperative complications,and surgery-related costs were compared between ***: The OHR group consisted of 18 patients(13 males,mean age ± SD,61.4 ± 12.8 years),and the LHR group comprised 28 patients(16 males,mean age 54.9 ± 14.4 years).The mean operative time and the estimated blood loss were higher in the OHR group(235.8 ± 43.6 min vs 171.1 ± 27.4 min;and 301.1 ± 54.6 mL vs 225 ± 38.6 mL respectively,P = 0.001).Bowel function returned in an average of 4.3 ± 1.7 d in the OHR group,and 3 ± 1.3 d in the LHR group(P = 0.01).The length of hospital stay was significantly longer in the OHR group(11.2 ± 5.3 d vs 6.7 ± 1.9 d,P < 0.001).The 1 mo complication rate was 33.3% in the OHR(6 wound infections) and 3.6% in the LHR group(1 hemorrhage)(P = 0.004).At 12 mo,the complication rate remained significantly higher in the OHR group(27.8% vs 10.7%,P = 0.03).The anastomotic leak and mortality rates were *** 3 years,no patient required re-intervention for surgical *** OHR procedure had significantly higher costs(+56%) compared to the LHR procedure,when combining the surgery-related costs and the length of hospital ***: LHR appears to be a safe and feasible procedure that is associated with reduced hospitality stays,complication rates,and costs compared to OH

AIM To assess the viability of orthotopic and heterotopic patient-derived pancreatic cancer xenografts implanted into nude *** This study presents a prospective experimental analytical follow-up of the development of tumours in mice upon implantation of human pancreatic adenocarcinoma samples. Specimens were obtained surgically from patients with a pathological diagnosis of pancreatic adenocarcinoma. Tumour samples from pancreatic cancer patients were transplanted into nude mice in three different locations(intraperitoneal, subcutaneous and pancreatic). Histological analysis(haematoxylin-eosin and Masson's trichrome staining) and immunohistochemical assessment of apoptosis(TUNEL), proliferation(Ki-67), angiogenesis(CD31) and fibrogenesis(α-SMA) were performed. When a tumour xenograft reached the target size, it was reimplanted in a new nude mouse. Three sequential tumour xenograft generations were generated(F1, F2 and F3).RESULTS The overall tumour engraftment rate was 61.1%. The subcutaneous model was most effective in terms of tissue growth(69.9%), followed by intraperitoneal(57.6%) and pancreatic(55%) models. Tumour development was faster in the subcutaneous model(17.7 ± 2.6 wk) compared with the pancreatic(23.1 ± 2.3 wk) and intraperitoneal(25.0 ± 2.7 wk) models(P = 0.064). There was a progressive increase in the tumour engraftment rate over successive generations for all three models(F1 28.1% vs F2 71.4% vs F3 80.9%, P < 0.001). There were no significant differences in tumour xenograft differentiation and cell proliferation between human samples and the three experimental models among the sequential generations of tumour xenografts. However, a progressive decrease in fibrosis, fibrogenesis, tumour vascularisation and apoptosis was observed in the three experimental models compared with the human samples.
