Bacterial colonization of orthoped.c implants is one of the lead.ng causes of failure and.clinical complexities for load.bearing metallic implants. Topical or systemic ad.inistration of antibiotics may not offer the most efficient d.fense against colonization, especially in the case of second.ry infection, lead.ng to surgical removal of implants and.in some cases even limbs. In this stud., laser powd.r bed.fusion was implemented.to fabricate Ti3Al2V alloy by a 1:1 weight mixture of CpTi and.Ti6Al4V powd.rs. Ti-Tantalum(Ta)–Copper(Cu) alloys were further analyzed.by the ad.ition of Ta and.Cu into the Ti3Al2V custom alloy. The biological,mechanical, and.tribo-biocorrosion properties of Ti3Al2V alloy were evaluated. A 10 wt.% Ta(10Ta) and.3 wt.% Cu(3Cu) were ad.ed.to the Ti3Al2V alloy to enhance biocompatibility and.impart inherent bacterial resistance. Ad.itively manufactured.implants were investigated.for resistance against Pseud.monas aeruginosa and.Staphylococcus aureus strains of bacteria for up to 48 h. A 3 wt.% Cu ad.ition to Ti3Al2V d.splayed.improved.antibacterial efficacy, i.e.78%–86% with respect to CpTi. Mechanical properties for Ti3Al2V–10Ta–3Cu alloy were evaluated. d.monstrating excellent fatigue resistance, exceptional shear strength, and.improved.tribological and.tribo-biocorrosion characteristics when compared.to Ti6Al4V. In vivo stud.es using a rat d.stal femur mod.l revealed.improved.early-stage osseointegration for alloys with10 wt.% Ta ad.ition compared.to CpTi and.Ti6Al4V. The 3 wt.% Cu-ad.ed.compositions d.splayed.biocompatibility and.no ad.erse infammatory response in vivo. our results establish the Ti3Al2V–10Ta–3Cu alloy’s synergistic effect on improving both in vivo biocompatibility and.microbial resistance for the next generation of load.bearing metallic implants.

We present a method.to fabricate hand.rafted.thermoelectric d.vices on stand.rd.office paper *** d.vices are based.on thin films of WS_(2),Te,and.BP(P-type semicond.ctors)and.TiS_(3)and.TiS_(2)(N-type semicond.ctors),d.posited.by simply rubbing powd.r of these materials against *** thermoelectric properties of these semicond.cting films revealed.maximum Seebeck coefficients of(+1.32±0.27)mV K^(-1)and.-0.82±0.15)mV K^(-1)for WS_(2)and.TiS_(3),***,Peltier elements were fabricated.by interconnecting the P-and.N-type films with graphite electrod.s.A thermopower value up to 6.11 mV K^(-1)was obtained.when the Peltier element were constructed.with three *** find.ngs of this work show proof-of-concept d.vices to illustrate the potential application of semicond.cting van d.r Waals materials in future thermoelectric power generation as well as temperature sensing for low-cost d.sposable electronic d.vices.

This work shows that d.spite a lattice mismatch of almost 20%, Cd.nTe/Cd.e/Cd.nTe heterostructures grown d.rectly on Si(111) have surprisingly good.optical emission properties. The investigated.structures were grown by molecular beam epitaxy and.characterized.by scanning transmission electron microscopy, macro-and.micro-photoluminescence. Low temperature macro-photoluminescence experiments ind.cate three emission band. which d.pend.on the Cd.e layer thickness and.have d.fferent confinement characteristics. Temperature measurements reveal that the lower energy emission band.(at 1.48 eV)is associated.to d.fects and.bound.exciton states, while the main emission at 1.61 eV has a weak 2d.character and.the higher energy one at 1.71 eV has a well-d.fined.(zero-d.mensional, 0d. 0d.nature. Micro-photoluminescence measurements show the existence of sharp and.strongly circularly polarized.(up to 40%) emission lines which can be related.to the presence of Mn in the heterostructure. This result opens the possibility of prod.cing photon sources with the typical spin control of the d.luted.magnetic semicond.ctors using the low-cost silicon technology.

The stud. focused.on the mod.fication with platinum of d.rk d.fective titania obtained.via pulsed.laser ablation. Both the method.of Pt introd.ction and.the nature of the Pt precursor were varied. All samples exhibited.similar phase compositions, specific surface areas, and.Pt contents. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy coupled.with pulsed.Co ad.orption revealed.increased.d.spersity when photored.ction and.the hyd.oxonitrate complex (Me _(4) N) _(2) [Pt _(2) (oH) _(2) (No _(3) ) _(8) ] were used. The sample featured.a high content of single-atom species and.subnano-sized.Pt clusters. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy results showed.that the photored.ction method.facilitated.the appearance of a larger number of Pt ^(2+) states, which appeared.owing to the strong metal-support interaction (SMSI) eff ect of the transfer of electron d.nsity from the electron-saturated.d.fects on the Tio _(2) surface to Pt ^(4+) . In the hyd.ogen evolution reaction, samples with a significant fraction of the Pt ^(2+) ionic component, capable of generating short-lived.Pt^(0) single-atom sites und.r irrad.ation d.e to the SMSI eff ect, exhibited.the highest photocatalytic activity. The 0.5Pt(C)/Tio_(2) -Ph sample exhibited.the highest hyd.ogen yield.with a quantum efficiency of 0.53, retaining its activity even after 8 h of operation.
