Recent monitoring techniques employ multiple sources of information for the characterization of the phenomenon to be studied, being the coupling and adjustment of multi-source data one of the first challenges to consider and solve. The authors propose a new framework of the multi-source and multi-temporal data-oriented fusion for the characterization of landslide events. The main objective is to generate 3d virtual models(in the form of dense point clouds) and feed them back with the characteristic of soil and subsoil information. The scheme consists of three main steps. The first one is on-site data collection(geological characterization, geophysical measurements, GPS measurements, and UAV/drone mapping). The second step is generation of a high-resolution 3d virtual model(~1-inch spatial resolution) from the frames acquired through the UAV using the structure of motion(SfM) processing;the developed virtual model is optimized with GPS measurements to minimize geolocation error and eliminate distortions. The last step is assembling of the acquired data in the field and densified point cloud considering the different nature of the data, re-escalating procedure and the information stacking layer.

Identifying the genetic mechanisms that underpin the evolution of new organ and tissue systems is an aim of evolutionary developmental biology. Comparative functional genetic studies between angiosperms and bryophytes can define those genetic changes that were responsible for developmental innovations. Here, we report the generation of a transcriptome atlas covering most phases in the life cycle of the model bryo- phyte Physcomitrella patens, including detailed sporophyte developmental progression. We identified a comprehensive set of sporophyte-specific transcription factors, and found that many of these genes have homologs in angiosperms that function in developmental processes such as flowering and shoot branching. deletion of the PpTCP5 transcription factor results in development of supernumerary sporangia attached to a single seta, suggesting that it negatively regulates branching in the moss sporophyte. Given that TCP genes repress branching in angiosperms, we suggest that this activity is ancient. Finally, compar- ison of P. patens and Arabidopsis thaliana transcriptomes led us to the identification of a conserved core of transcription factors expressed in tip-growing cells. We identified modifications in the expression patterns of these genes that could account for developmental differences between P. patens tip-growing cells and A. thaliana pollen tubes and root hairs.

Juvenile hormone （JH）, a sesquiterpenoid synthetized by the insect corpora allata （CA）, plays critical roles in metamorphosis and reproduction. Penultimate or last step of JH synthesis is catalyzed by juvenile hormone acid O-methyltransferase （JHAMT）. Here we report the cloning and expression analysis of the JHAMT orthologue in the cockroach, Blattella germanica （L.）（BgJHAMT）. BgJHAMT is mainly expressed in CA, with only expression traces in ovary. Three different isoforms, differing in the 3＇-UTR sequence, were identified. Isoform A shows between 35 and 65 times higher expression than B and C in CA from penultimate nymphal instar and adult females. RNAi-triggered knock down of BgJHAMT produces a dramatic reduction of JH synthesis, concomitant with a decrease of fat body viteUogenin expression and basal follicle length. BgJHAMT mRNA levels in CA of females along the gonadotrophic cycle parallel, with a slight advancement, JH synthesis profile. BgJHAMT mRNA levels were reduced in starved females and in females in which we reduced nutritional signaling by knocking down insulin receptor and target of rapamycin （TOR）. Results show that conditions that modify JH synthesis in adult B. germanica females show parallel changes of BgJHAMT mRNA levels and that the JH-specifie branch of the JH synthesis pathway is regulated in the same way as the mevalonate branch. Furthermore, we demonstrate that nutrition and its signaling through the insulin receptor and TOR pathways are essential for activating BgJHAMT expression, which suggests that this enzyme can be a checkpoint for the regulation of JH production in relation to nutritional status.

This paper reviews and discusses the current research status, trends, and future needs in the field of beach morphodynamics under the influence of storm *** paper reviews how the three main research methods, field investigations, numerical modelling, and physical modelling, have been used to study beach morphodynamics during storm *** quantitative definitions of storm sequences at different sites are presented and *** is shown that the definition of storm sequences is site-specific and requires knowledge of the storm climate, beach characteristics, and the temporal scale of beach ***, the paper brings together currently available approaches aimed at describing the effect of storm sequences on beach erosion in a general *** importance of storm chronology and the effects of an extreme storm within a sequence of storms are *** that, the more poorly studied aspect of beach recovery in between storms within a sequence is *** indicators for defining beach recovery, namely the shoreline location, sediment volumes, and the beach state, are identified and ***, important research needs, including the need for detailed physical modelling, are identified.

In nature hummingbirds face floral resources whose availability, quality and quantity can vary spatially and temporally. Thus, they must constantly make foraging decisions about which patches, plants and flowers to visit, partly as a function of the nectar reward. The uncertainty of these decisions would possibly be reduced if an individual could remember locations or use visual cues to avoid revisiting recently depleted flowers. In the present study, we carried out field experiments with white-eared hummingbirds Hylocharis leucotis, to evaluate their use of locations or visual cues when foraging on natural flowers Penstemon roseus. We evaluated the use of spatial memory by observing birds while they were foraging between two plants and within a single plant. Our results showed that hummingbirds prefer to use location when foraging in two plants, but they also use visual cues to efficiently locate unvisited rewarded flowers when they feed on a single plant. However, in absence of visual cues, in both experiments birds mainly used the location of previously visited flowers to make subsequent visits. Our data suggest that hummingbirds are capable of learning and employing this flexibility depending on the faced environmental conditions and the information acquired in previous visits [Current Zoology 57 （4）： 468-476, 2011].

Larch wood is structurally classifi ed in many countries as one of conifers with the highest load-bearing capacity(strength class of C30).The Spanish visual classifi cation regulation only assigns a strength class to 4 pine woods:Laricio pine(Pinus nigra ***),Silvestre pine(Pinus sylvestris L.),Radiata pine(Pinus radiata ***),and Pinaster pine(Pinus pinaster Ait.).This work adds to the number of structurally characterised species by creating a visual classifi cation table for Japanese larch wood(Larix kaempferi(Lamb.)Carr.)which diff erentiates between 2 visual classes,MEG-1 and *** strength values were calculated for each class(fk,MEG-1=31.80 MPa,f k,MEG-2=24.55 MPa),mean module of elasticity(E 0,mean,MEG-1=13,082 MPA,E 0,mean,MEG-2=12,320 MPA)and density(ρk,MEG-1=456.6 kg m−3,ρk,MEG-2=469.1 kg m−3),before fi nally assigning a strength class of C30 to visual class MEG-1,and a strength class of C24 to visual class MEG-2.
