Background:The usefulness of C-reactive protein(CRP)as a non-specific marker of inflammation during pregnancy and lactation is unclear in impoverished populations where co-existing infections and vitamin deficiencies are ***:This cross-sectional study in Panama recruited 120 pregnant and 99 lactating Ngäbe-Buglewomen from 14 communities in rural *** history,indoor wood smoke exposure,fieldwork,BMI,vitamins A,B_(12),D,and folic acid,and inflammation markers(CRP,neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio(NLR),plateletcrit and cytokines)were *** regressions explored both associations of CRP with other inflammatory markers and associations of CRP and elevated CRP based on trimester-specific cut-offs with maternal factors,infections and vitamin ***:CRP was higher in pregnancy(51.4±4.7 nmol/L)than lactation(27.8±3.5 nmol/L)and was elevated above trimester specific cut-offs in 21%of pregnant and 30%of lactating *** deficiencies were common(vitamin A 29.6%;vitamin D 68.5%;vitamin B1268%;folic acid 25.5%)and over 50%of women had two or more concurrent deficiencies as well as multiple *** regression models highlighted differences in variables associated with CRP between pregnancy and *** pregnancy,CRP was positively associated with greater indoor wood smoke exposure,caries and hookworm and negatively associated with Ascaris and vaginal Lactobacillus and Bacteroides/Gardnerella *** with this,greater wood smoke exposure,caries as well as higher diplococcal infection score increased the odds of trimester-elevated CRP concentrations whereas longer gestational age lowered the likelihood of a trimester-elevated *** lactation,folic acid deficiency was associated with higher CRP whereas parity,number of eosinophils and Mobiluncus score were associated with lower ***,a higher BMI and Trichomonas vaginalis score increased the likelihood of an elevated CRP whereas higher parity and numbe

During textile manufacturing, huge amounts of wastewaters characterized by removed impurities and high concentrations of dye are produced. These wastewaters cause several problems when they are discharged to the environment. The use of ozone in wastewater treatment results of interest. In this work we propose to assess the discoloration rate of different synthetic wastewaters as a function of pH, dye concentration (methylene blue (MB)) and reaction time. A comparison of discoloration rate between conventional ozonation and catalytic ozonation salts of copper, zinc, silver and nickel was also performed. For the optimization of the ozonation process of colored solutions, it was used a central composite experimental design with five replicates of the center point resulting to evaluate the influence of the independent variables at different ranges of pH, [MB] and time. In the catalyst-assisted ozonation, [MB], pH and the reaction time were fixed to 100 mg/L, 5.5 and 15 min, respectively. The optimized experimental conditions to provide maximum discoloration were pH=3.3;[MB]=8.6 mg/L and time=74.3 min. Regarding the catalyst-assisted ozonation, it was found that CuSO4 catalyst gave better color reduction if compared with other catalysts assayed.

Advances in science and technology, especially in bioprospecting and biomimetics, have provided solutions to everyday problems over time. Through bioengineering, research and the discovery of the mechanisms present in nature for the production and functionality of adhesives, different materials and substances capable of imitating the role of their analogs in nature have been developed, which generates positive consequences in the area of the medical, textile, wood industry, among others. In this review, we present some researches and discoveries that have been made, which focus on the way in which adhesives produced by organisms found in nature are made, such as: marine organisms, plants, land organisms, insects, among others. In addition, different types of adhesives that exist and how they can be produced synthetically to be oriented to several industrial applications are mentioned, too.

Species with mixed mating systems often demonstrate variable expression of breeding system characteristics and thus represent the opportunity to understand the factors and mechanisms that promote both outcrossed and selfed seed production. Here, we investigate variation in levels of herkogamy （variation in stigma-anther separation distance） in a Puerto Rican population of hummingbird pollinated Gesneria citrina Urban. There is significant variation in herkogamy levels among individuals of this species and stigma-anther separation is negatively associated with the ability to set fruits and seeds in the absence of pollinators. The variation in levels of herkogamy may represent a mechanism to ensure the production of some self-fertilized progeny in the absence of hummingbird pollinators. We also describe a novel breeding system in G. citrina, where stamens elongate over time to reach stigma height, but stamen elongation is accelerated by pollination. These results suggest that once the flowers are pollinated, stamen elongation may favor increased pollen removal and siring success, while the reduction in stigma-anther distance no longer imposes the risk of interference between male and female functions. We discuss our findings of breeding system variation in the context of pollination system evolution in an island setting （Antillean islands）.

Background:Traumatic pancreatic injuries are rare,and guidelines specifying management are controversial and difficult to apply in the acute clinical *** to sparse data on these injuries,we carried out a retrospective review to determine outcomes following surgical or non-surgical management of traumatic pancreatic *** hypothesize a higher morbidity and mortality rate in patients treated surgically when compared to patients treated ***:We performed a retrospective review of data from four trauma centers in New York from 1990–2014,comparing patients who had blunt traumatic pancreatic injuries who were managed operatively to those managed *** compared continuous variables using the Mann-Whitney U test and categorical variables using the chi-square and Fisher’s exact *** analysis was performed to determine the possible confounding factors associated with mortality in both treatment ***:Twenty nine patients were managed operatively and 32 *** was a significant difference between the operative and non-operative groups in median age(37.0 vs.16.2 years,P=0.016),grade of pancreatic injury(grade I;30.8 vs.85.2%,P value for all comparisons<0.0001),median injury severity score(ISS)(16.0 vs.4.0,P=0.002),blood transfusion(55.2 vs.15.6%,P=0.0012),other abdominal injuries(79.3 vs.38.7%,P=0.0014),pelvic fractures(17.2 vs.0.00%,P=0.020),intensive care unit(ICU)admission(86.2 vs.50.0%,P=0.003),median length of stay(LOS)(16.0 vs.4.0 days,P<0.0001),and mortality(27.6 vs.3.1%,P=0.010).Conclusions:Patients with traumatic pancreatic injuries treated operatively were more severely injured and suffered greater complications than those treated *** greater morbidity and mortality associated with these patients warrants further study to determine optimal triage strategies and which subset of patients is likely to benefit from surgery.

目的:确定局麻药,年龄和角膜中央厚度对非接触眼压计眼压测量值的影响。方法:记录47例93眼滴局麻药前后角膜中央厚度和非接触眼压计眼压测量值。结果:在47例中女31例,男16例;平均年龄66.4岁(标准差16,范围34～88岁);平均基础眼压16.0mmHg(标准差4.0,范围8.5～26.1mmHg)。滴局麻药后1min平均眼压16.0mmHg(标准差3.8,范围7.7～26.7mmHg),5min平均眼压14.9mmHg(标准差3.9,范围7.6～26.3)。0～1min(P=0.0007)和0～5min(P=0.0003)的数值差异有统计学意义,1～5min(P=0.27)的数值差异无统计学意义(配对资料t检验)。滴局麻药前的平均角膜中央厚度为565.4μm。直线回归分析认为年龄和眼压之间以及角膜中央厚度和眼压之间无直线关系。结论:我们的研究证实,滴局麻药后前5min内引起的眼压降低是进行性的,降低值与角膜中央厚度和年龄无关。

锰钾矿是一种同时具有1×1和2×2孔道的八面体分子筛结构的氧化锰材料.通常情况下, 1×1孔道是空的, 2×2孔道可以被水或者不同的阳离子占据,当占据2×2孔道的阳离子为K^+时即为锰钾矿.据文献报道,锰钾矿被广泛用于不同的催化氧化反应如一氧化碳氧化、亚甲基蓝分解、有机污染物氧化消除和小分子烷烃氧化,并表现出良好的催化性能,这通常被认为是其表面存在的活性氧物种使这类催化剂具有独特的氧化还原性.但是,关于这些活性氧的来源并没有很好的解释,而这对优化锰钾矿的氧化还原性及催化活性非常重要.如上所述,由于孔道中K^+的存在,部分四价锰被还原为三价锰以保持电荷平衡,这意味着锰钾矿中三价锰的含量或者锰的平均价态会随着孔道中K^+含量不同而变化.因此,锰钾矿中钾含量可能对其氧化还原性产生重要影响.然而,最近发表的几篇文献中关于K^+含量对锰钾矿表面活性氧或氧空位影响的结果相互矛盾,因此有必要进一步深入研究K^+含量对锰钾矿材料氧化还原性及催化活性的影响.本文以高锰酸钾作为氧化剂和锰的前驱体,乙醇为还原剂,通过改变水热反应温度(80–120 oC)和乙醇浓度(50–1550mmol/L),用一步水热法成功合成了不同钾含量的锰钾矿和软锰矿纳米材料.采用X射线衍射(XRD)、物理吸附、X射线荧光光谱(XRF)、扫描电镜(SEM)、透射电镜(TEM)、X光电子能谱(XPS)、程序升温脱附(TPD)和程序升温还原(CO-TPR)等表征技术研究了K^+含量对锰钾矿材料结构稳定性和氧化还原性的影响及进一步对一氧化碳催化氧化活性的影响.XRD结果表明,在较低合成温度(80和100 oC)时主要得到锰钾矿,在120 oC并且乙醇浓度较高(960和1550 mmol/L)时主要得到软锰矿.这些不同合成条件下得到的锰钾矿具有不同的结晶度、比表面积及钾含量等性质,根据这些性质,将制备的众多样品分为三组进行讨论.A组是具有高结晶度、中等比表面积(100–135 m^2/g)和高钾含量(～16%)的锰钾矿样品;B组锰钾矿样品结晶度较低,但比表面积高(160–200 m^2/g),钾含量中等(～11%);C组主要是软锰矿结构的氧化锰材料,结晶度高,但比表面积低(13–50 m^2/g),钾含量也低(A>C.由于三组样品的比表面积差别较大,我们比较了所有样品在75 oC时单位面积上的反应速率.75 oC时, A组锰钾矿几乎没有活性,反应速率为0.与之相反, B组样品的反应速率高于传统回流法制备的锰钾矿参考样品.这些结果表明锰钾矿的高比表面积和更好的氧化还原性是其在CO氧化反应中具有高活性的主要原因.为了进一步研究锰钾矿在低温下释放的氧物种对CO催化氧化的影响,将B组代表样品在500 oC焙烧6 h.与原样品相比, TPD中低温释放的氧消失,另外两个氧气的峰也向高温方向移动了20°C以上.在CO催化氧化实验中, 500 oC焙烧后的样品直到100 oC尚没有催化活性,而原样品在此温度则有38%的转化率.这一结果证明锰钾矿在TPD实验中300 oC左右释放的第一个活性氧物种导致了低温下CO催化氧化的活性.另外,将B组代表样品在含有20%氧气的原料气氛下进行了两个循环的CO氧化反应测试,发现B组样品在高氧气浓度下具有较高的稳定性.综上所述,锰钾矿中的钾含量可以通过改变水热合成温度和乙醇浓度成功地来调控.钾含量较低的锰钾矿样品具有更好的氧化还原性和催化CO氧化活性.而钾含量较高时,锰钾矿结构更稳定,不利于活性氧的释放,因而催化氧化活性较差.
